So I had a "duh" moment. Kratos tells Atreus about the tortoise and the hare and the way he explains the story it was whatever until after watching this I realized...was he referring to this bout with Hermes? Kratos being the "tortoise" he was steady and disciplined while Hermes the "rabbit" was sure of victory and foolish. The tortoise wins as we see clearly here lol.

I feel like people constantly miss the point of this bossfight Hermes runs away, however, he is not a coward, he is toying with Kratos. After all, like the other Olympus gods, he has a ego to protect and a hubris to fullfill. He knows he can not fight Kratos, so he plays around, this in turn actually leads to possible ways Kratos gets Game Over'd by having to deal with the environment. Listen to Hermes dialogue: "Isn't this fun?" "You amuse me, spartan, let's *play* a little longer." "Keep up, Kratos!" Hermes does not take Kratos seriously at all.. Not to mention how he constantly stops to taunt Kratos, posing in all sorts of different manners to annoy the Ghost of Sparta. Hermes did not prepare himself for this "battle", he did not bring any weapons, the enemies and traps set around seem to be more related to outside problems than Hermes. Unlike the other Gods of Olympus, He doesn't treat this "battle" like a fight, he treats it like a game. Even when tired and cornered, he could just jump off the edge and continue to run away, but he does not. Take a listen to some of his cornered dialogue: "You won't catch me!" "I am still quick enough for you!" "Unfair, Kratos! No hitting!" This does not sound like someone who is fighting to the death does it?

I just discovered about God Of War betrayal and man Hermes had his motivations to kill Kratos after all He needed to protect his home (of course) and help his father Zeus But also get revenge for his son who was killed by kratos in GOW betrayal when he was just trying to help Kratos kratos was chasing a guy and when Hermes son stopped him to give him a message Kratos got angry and killed the kid (not so kid because he was probably old of course but not close as the gods because even in 8bits i can see he would be like a young adult or close to it)
