GOW 1 Kratos wasn't even angry, he was a broken man who had made mistakes. Satisfying to see how he went from this to the embodiment of chaos in the sequels and is now a calm and reasonable person who is also a good father figure.

The quality and the storytelling of the old games are amazing. I also feel the power of Kratos far more than in the new games. Also the fights seem more intense, difficult and powerful. And that ending scene where he sits on the throne and the narrator tells how he is the driving force in present and all future wars (with the images of ancient and modern warfare) is a really cool way of describing the use and the existence of a god of war. Things like these are entirely taken from the new games. The old games really feel like a tale of ancient Greek mythology. and you notice how the new games are made for a broader community even though the story is good, in my opinion the old games are really something else.

Ares just watched Kratos open it instead of stepping on him while he's opening it...

The Kratos clones fight is the best use of telling a story through the medium of video games. It is incredibly difficult and frustrating as fuck, which is such a good way of making you feel the pain and anger that Kratos feels about his past. It's genius.
