Godox has a few new tricks up their sleeves for smoother light and easier modification. This time it's just for the AD200, but you already have one of those, right? Sure, everyone does. Well it's time to dust it off and brighten things up again. You might call it a knock off, but I call it a pretty decent deal, and some really compact modifiers.

This is how to use the two clear inserts with the filter holder on the Godox AK-R1. 1. Hold the empty filter holder ring with the side you load from facing you. Put in one of the two clear inserts and turn it to counterclockwise. 2. Drop in any gel or thin filter/diffusion material cut in a circle to fit (about 62mm). 3. Drop in the second clear insert and twist the inserts and filter clockwise. This will hold everything in place. There is a third filter retainer slot in the ring, so you can another of the Godox supplied plastic inserts, or stack up to three of the Godox supplied inserts with gels in between.

Hello. The leds from Fresnel AD200 are not quite usless, because they are not for video or photo lighting. The main feature of this leds is, when you shoot in dark conditions and you have a subject in front of the camera and the blitz over the subject fireing against the lens for a rim light, you light up the LEDs so you cand see where the flash is in darknes and not to waist time and photos trying to put you in the shadow of the subject:)

Using the XP200-V2 with the round head on the R2 TTL for the shoe on top of the camera with the AD200 on my belt for events. The cord is a bit of a pain but I have it off to the side so its not too bad. I could use the new round head flash but I need the extra battery and power of the larger flash. Besides I use my speed light with a battery pack anyway so I am used to the cord. I can also break the whole thing down and mount the AD200 on stands with a modifiers for other shoots when I am not on the move. Personally I think the AD200 is great for events. But for studio or not being on the move I use the AD600's or my old Bowens Gemini's. When I am off camera I use the Flashpoint R2 PRO Mark 2 which is a lot nicer than the R2 triggers.

I'm personally going to buy a round head adapter for it with the accessory kit.. and I love what I am seeing from the round head speedlight.. profoto is obviously pissed with their insanely overpriced similar speedlight. But I honestly just can't justify buying profoto.. and I hope flashpoint/godox wins. Between the R2 ecosystem.. really user friendly trigger system.. and the various options and versatility you get from the lights.. I can not justify using Broncolor or profoto if I'm getting exactly what I want from flashpoint.

So you are saying that the primary benefit of the round head is the easy to add gel accessories? But doesn't the fresnel head also come with easy to add (rectangular) gel? In the beginning of the video, it seems like you're saying that the output of the fresnel head is a bit harsher than the bare bulb or the round head, but the light spread of the fresnel head is basically still OK. So what does the round head gel accessories provide that the standard fresnel head doesn't? (I don't have an AD200 but plan to buy one soon.) Thanks.
@WesPerry
@WesPerry 5 жыл бұрын
The rectangular accessories for the fresnel head are a bit of a pain. They’re not nearly as easy to mount as the round head ones, as the fresnel ones were an afterthought, and the round ones were part of the design from square one. Also, this is going to be a wider ecosystem, including the new V1 flash when it comes out as well. The square modifiers will likely be discontinued and not added to, while the round ones will probably be expanded on in the future.

The round head has a particular spread pattern, approx 35mm equiv (though highly diffuse at the edges). Also has the magnetic mounts, which of course is quite key. Would be interesting to see how the brightness levels compare, though.

Round head does have a brighter modeling light, but a dimmer flash. Unfortunately you can’t make the fresnel LED any brighter. There’s a separate LED only head, but then you have no flash.

It’s actually twice as powerful by absolute light output. The diffusion on the round eats a stop of light.

@WesPerry
@WesPerry 3 жыл бұрын
That depends on how you’re measuring. I think it’s a Tiny bit less light, but what makes the biggest difference is the fresnel focuses the light a bit, while the round diffuses and disperses it, so will end up with a much lower number in a guide number style test.

Do you have one? If so, what are you thoughts on what makes it worth 5.5x more than the V860ii? I’m sure it’s a little better, but the full value proposition just doesn’t do it for me. There will be a new, totally redesigned, round head flash from Godox in the spring, it’ll be interesting to see what they come out with. It’s not supposed to be just a V860ii, but something entirely improved. I’m sure it’ll be more expensive, but still nowhere near the price of the A1.🤷🏻‍♂️
@steveGabrail
@steveGabrail 5 жыл бұрын
@@WesPerry I have 3 A1's, and 3 b10's. I was all godox before I made the switch to Profoto. And I still have my v860ii.I actually hated profoto because of how expensive they are. BUT, once the B10's came out at the price they're at, I decided to make the switch and I couldn't be happier. The light quality (yes I know that everyone out there thinks a strobe is a strobe and it quality has nothing to do with it) out of those heads is amazing. It as a certain "glow" that godox just couldn't do it, for me. I shoot weddings and what justified the price for me is the feedback that I get from my clients when I backlight them or use a modifier to create an image for them that's artistic or creative etc. So, the A1, something, I use it fo receptions and the round head just wraps around my subject way better than a conventional flash head. I've used every modifier from the mag sphere to bounce cards etc and when I bounce the A1's, it just does the job without any modifiers. That is what 5.5 the price did for me. I am sure a lot of photographers out there will argue this, but that doesn't matter to me. I am excited to see what the new round head from godox will do, though.
