Well, all I can say is that I don't read the film that way. I never felt like anyone was being asked to surrender their humanity or fit inside a little box for the sake of a smoothly run system. What I do read into it is that the younger generation must be prepared to step up and take over from the older one that won't be around forever and that the work that must be done to protect the country and its' people is work worth doing. As for the final battle, another interpretation is that the plan relies on automation with as few actual people on site as possible precisely BECAUSE those in charge also value human life and don't want to lose anyone. When part of the team administering the coagulant gets wiped out, there's a reaction shot that makes it clear that it's a loss that hurts. Anyways, I still think Shin Godzilla is a fun ride, flawed though it may be.

@@Godzillakingofkaiju1 Nah, Shin Godzilla perfectly know what it wanted to be and did it well. Minus One is not "What Shin should've been". They are two very different movies with different themes & goals. They're Apples & Oranges. Nobody said "apples should've been oranges" right?

I don't disagree with how it turns out, but I still think the actual thesis statement is supposed to be about contrasting incompetent politics with competent politics: the art of getting the best people for the job to work together for a common goal. The film's idea of what competent politics involves may also be what you said, however.

Worth minus one having incredible audience reactions and amazing box office results so far, I hope we get more dynamic and emotional Godzilla in the future. For reference it’s currently the highest rated Godzilla movie by Japanese audiences and just had the highest opening day at the Japanese box office for the franchise.

Why does Godzilla have to be emotional and dynamic? This is ridiculous. If Godzilla acts like a regular animal or like a human, the fear factor is gone. It's like complaining the xenomorphs are bad creatures because they don't emote enough or have much personality. Shin Godzilla was quiet unnerving in his appearance and design, not to mention a direct allegory for 3/11. But Omni overlooks all of that and ignores that the "strawman" PM was a direct reference to the real life PM at the time of 3/11, who gave out a similar speech of "nothing to see here, disperse folks", only to be proven a liar. Man, you need to stop echoing this crap of "muh godziller needs to be emotional".

I don’t know if any of this is actually reflected in the movie (mainly because I haven’t watched it yet) but I don’t know about the conclusion that you came to was 100% intentional by the creators. That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t there, by what you described it definitely was, but I think I’ll actually have to watch the movie before coming to a conclusion. Still great a video

As someone who has seen the film a good amount of times, watch it for yourself. I personally feel like alot of what he said in this was a massive reach, but to each their own.

He's eh, very wrong. For oneyiu actually do see the human cost of Godzilla's first attacks. The reason the film starts to focus more on infrastructure is because the city gets evacuated. As for the rest of his point, it's backwards. The actual point of the film is that the old system smashed individuals into a slow systemic collective, while the better system allows individuals to act on their own initiative and strengths to do what they think is right (which in this case is protecting the well being of the country from a nuclear abomination and a nuclear happy USA) . This isn't subtle either. Omni is right that the film spells out the message. The protagonist recruits weirdos and outcasts and states that they may operate as they see fit. He EMBRACES their individuality, encourages them to speak up, dissent and share their opinion and makes a point not to step on them for going against the group consensus, whereas the previous government was defined by its total stasis in the face of a lack of consensus. His reading is not only wrong, but outright dishonest. I don't necessarily think he INTENDED to be dishonest, but I think his bias severely blinded his judgement and allowed for an insultingly ungenerous reading of the message.

Honestly this series breakdown was a necessary. And this is coming from a guy who thinks Shin is actually a great movie. But dear god this film had been over praise to the point where people think if you don’t like it means, you ‘didn’t understand it’. And herring all the defensive for it, makes me wonder if the people praising have even seen any other Godzilla/kaiju film before.

Omni one thing I'm curious about is that in some older video you mentioned Shin Godzilla was worshipped as a movie by the Japanese far right. I thought you would have brought that up in your series regarding the political aspects of the film.

@@Godzillakingofkaiju1 You're wrong on so many characters. All of those characters were generic archetypes. Nothing of substance. Shin's not propaganda. It's a critique of the Japanese bureaucracy and culture regarding its inefficient response during the 3/11 disaster. Also, the overt and subtle environmentalist and woke propaganda was present in the MV, yet you hypocrites never point that out. God, you're pissing me off.

This is a really bad and disrespectful take. First, a lot of what you say is just wrong. We see a woman and her family crushed by Godzilla's second form. We see reaction videos, online videos, people taking selfies, etc. The only point where we don't see people is Godzilla's 4th form atomic breath, when the city is mostly evacuated. Another point you're absurdly wrong on is that the message isn't that people work like cogs in a machine, but the opposite. All the protagonists are mavericks and weirdos who are working together for a goal. The previous government was the machine, working mechanically and without humanity. As a bonus point, Shin Godzilla's characters not being characters doesn't make them not people. Underdeveloped they may be, but they certainly aren't mindless or without personality. This is a major (and dangerously past the borderline of malicious) misreading of the film and disrespectful in the extreme to the artists who made it. I've disagreed with many, many times. This is the only time I've lost respect for you.

Don't worry, Omni will complain about 1001 things about Shin & Godzilla anime if he can. The only thing stopping him from doing it is either a) he can't find that many reasons to shit on Shin/anime, or b) making a video about it will make him look even *more* like an obsessed hater who can't let go of Shin to the point of mental disorder and only wasting his time.

There’s One Particular Japanese Monster Movie That Does A Better Job At Conveying/Criticizing Nippon Bureaucracy and Red Tape, while still giving its main Human Cast their Distinct though archetypal Characteristics, than “Godzilla: Resurgence” ; Toei Studios “What To Do With The Dead Kaiju?” From 2021.
