Adam Wingard missed opportunity was opening the movie with King Ghidorah being responsible for that storm that made Skull Island inhabitable. Imagine the opening scene is from 2019 & Ghidorah flies over Skull Island and causing the storm and having Kong throwing those trees at Ghidorah. Before Ghidorah ultimately ends up in Mexico where he fought Rodan.. Seeing Kong quickly trying to fight Ghidorah would’ve been a treat…

Mechagodzilla is so cool, It's like the Vision from the MCU being a bit of everything. Mechagodzilla is essentially a frankenzombie, a super A.I designed to kill Godzilla fused with the digitised memories and cognative function of King Ghidorah binded together and powered by a synthetic copy of the Hollow Earth energy. Of course it was going to go wrong - Also thought I'd add this here. Both Adam Wingard and Jared Krichevsky (Mechagodzilla's designer) confirmed the above, stating that Mechagodzilla is its own being, not just Ghidorah/Kevin piloting a Mech in the shape of Godzilla like so many think.

If hollow earth is another dimension as you said, not earth's actual core, then how would you explain godzilla atomic breathing a hole from hongkong straight into Kong's seat in hollow earth and how did he physically just go back through it without any warping?

Very nice breakdown! Thanks. The outpost in hollow earth does bug me after watching the time difference of spending time in there in the Monarch tv show. Seems they didn't think up that part of the story yet when they slapped that into the movie. Then again the movie itself has a few inconsistent things in it as well like the breath "digging" down to holloy earth without the need of a portal while everything else does need it.

The way I see it, Godzilla didn't see Monarch reviving Kong. So, in his mind, he killed Kong, saw him die, and walked away. Mechagodzilla fights him, and nearly win. Then Kong, back from the dead, saved Godzilla.

Great job on this video, thank you for this breakdown. A couple of thoughts about GvK: 1) It's too bad that Adam Wingard chose not to reveal the deeper relationship dynamic between Ren Serizawa and his father. The scene when Walt Simmons introduces Ren to Nathan Lind , Nathan could have said to Ren something like, "any relations to Ishiro Serizawa?" as Nathan would know who Ishiro was during his time working for Monarch. 2) When Nathan was staring at the globe in his office and was explaining to Walt what happened to his brother David attempting to make a hollow earth entry, it would have been great if Wingard showed a brief flashback of David entering a prototype HEAV like vehicle, and then showed an explosion upon entry to the hollow earth. 3) It's unfortunate that Wingard chose not to show additional scenes and dialogue between Kyle Chandler and the late Lance Reddick during the HK scenes. 4) Wish Windgard kept Zhang Ziyi in GvK, would have been great if there potentially was a post-credit scene of the Chen twins staring at Mothra's egg. 5). I agree with you that Ren's death is "ambiguous". I too, think Ren enveloped in electrical charge may be King Ghidorah posessing Ren, and it could have been a potential great post-credit scene of Ren walking out of the destroyed APEX HK facility with Ren's eyes having a slight "red" glow, which sets up a future MV movie, "Destroy All Titans".

I'll be honest here, I like Paul's breakdowns more. It's just I find him more entertaining, rather than taking anything away from MT. I am glad MT is a part of the channel here and from I've seen, it genuinely feels like he is a good guy, and I'm glad he got a break after what happened at NR. I stopped watching NR way back, because I thought Paul was more entertaining, so me preferring him is more to do with my personal preference, than a reflection of what MT does. All in all, I think the fans should stop being negative about a good guy joining the crew and rather offer constructive criticism for what he can do better.

To enter hollow earth (another dimension through portals inside earth) they needed HEAV's but I doubt that how they get back to earth with a straight hole made by Godzilla. 😨😨 Godzilla made hole to another dimension?? is it even possible in comics or is it a plot hole. can anyone give explanation?

Now I do like the new monsterverse movies! I'm quite pleased with what they have done with it! There are some confusing things about this movie. 1: The magic aircraft carrier supporting TWO titans. I know suspend my disbelief. 2: When Godzilla drags Kong underwater, they note he can't swim or breathe. Then they launch DEPTH CHARGES! That scare away Godzilla...but HOW did it not deafen or KILL Kong underwater, better yet how did Kong swim up to the ships?! I know, stop being so nitpicky, it's a movie! 3: The three heads of King Ghidorah. OG Kevin gets his head ripped off and that is the head that is kept by the fisherman. Alpha head along side Beta head and Kevin 2.0 get nuked by Godzilla, with the main head being blasted by G man himself. So...where does Apex get the other head for mecha-Godzilla? Last two things. MT mentions Kong pulls the axe out of a titan's head. I thought that was an ancient Godzilla skull, was it not? Finally, Kong ONLY beats Mech-Godzilla/Ghidorah via Godzilla super charging the axe. Therefore, Godzilla is supreme victor of the entire movie.

Godzilla vs. Kong: Godzilla beats Kong but Kong is the hero. Godzilla x Kong: Kong beats Godzilla but Godzilla is the hero. Before I saw this second trailer, that’s basically how I envisioned it playing out. So for Godzilla fans who might feel pissed that Kong beats Godzilla in a fight, you will see at the end that Godzilla is saving the day. Returning the favor to Kong for saving his life. Kong has no shot beating Shimo. We could have a scenario where Shimo could have Kong in near death until Godzilla comes in to save him. In GvK, Kong jumped on Mechagodzilla like he was riding a mechanical bull after Mechagodzilla was obliterating a worn out Godzilla. I don’t think Kong owed anything to Godzilla to want to save him. But he did it anyway. He still had a dislocated shoulder he had to snap back and had no time for warmup. Godzilla did spare Kong’s life and it worked out well for both of them or they would both be dead if the other didn’t show up to stop Mechagodzilla. Legendary is officially entering their Showa Era. The campy stuff from the 1960s and 1970s watching Godzilla performing flying drop kicks. I’m all for it. Not every Godzilla movie should be the same or have the same tone as Minus One. GxK is basically Lethal Weapon/Rush Hour for kaijus. Two kaijus who don’t get along must finally learn to work together to fight evil versions of themselves. *To* *Serve* *A* *Story* In reality, Kong has no shot beating Godzilla in a fight no different than Batman and Captain America at beating Superman and Iron Man. But we saw it happen to serve a story. If a fight became lopsided, then people wouldn’t watch it because it’s not compelling enough to watch. It’s too predictable. Kong wasn’t originally intended to be a kaiju. And the original size of Kong is around 25 feet for both 1933 and 2005 and was not that much larger than a T-Rex he killed by snapping his mouth. The 1976 one stood at 55 feet. Take the OG size of Godzilla at 164 feet from 1954 and Minus One and he’ll only need to step on those Kongs to win. I’m aware Kong isn’t the most powerful rival Godzilla has ever faced and beaten. Godzilla defeated much more powerful monsters in his franchise. WB basically needs to give Kong a battle axe and glove to stand a chance against kaijus with stuff coming out of their mouths. No different than Nolan not wanting to put Kryptonite in the Man of Steel script only for Snyder to bring that idea back in BvS for Batman to have any shot against Superman. Superman could literally kill Batman and the entire Justice League within seconds using his red lasers if he was evil enough and wanted to like Homelander would against other superheroes. Iron Man could literally throw Captain America into a volcano. Same with War Machine. But writers needs to serve a story. Got to make it dramatic. You don’t pay $10 to watch a movie only to walk out 3 minutes later because the fight ended with Godzilla turning Kong into ash. In the 1962 film, Kong did defeat Godzilla. Toho confirmed this. There were never two versions where the Japanese version had Godzilla winning. At the time, Godzilla was still a villain/heavy/heel. He was a villain again in his next film against Mothra and lost to her in that one. He only started to become the hero or antihero when he fought Ghidorah which was the 5th film he was in. Then it started to become campy from there until the Heisei Era. It’s true that WB did nerf Godzilla and overpowered Kong enough to make their fights more interesting. Without that, Kong would be fried gorilla and his head will be served in the scene in Temple of Doom as dessert. But it’s required to serve a story. It’s required to keep people engaged instead of watching lopsided fights that become predictable and boring. I think the reason this movie is feeling more like a Kong movie again is because Jia is probably the most memorable human character from a bunch of forgettable ones in MV. And she can communicate with Kong that she can’t with Godzilla. The humans are used as plot devices to narrate what will happen considering Godzilla and Kong don’t talk. Kaiju Wrestlemania Godzilla & Kong vs. Shimo & Skar King *My* *Godzilla* *&* *Kong* *History* My first Godzilla movie I had ever seen was that 1962 movie. It appeared on TV when I was 7 and I enjoyed it. I remember I visited Hawaii in the summer of 1988 and I asked my friend who was a year older, who would win, Godzilla or Kong? He said Godzilla, of course! And I agreed with him at the time but I still had a soft spot for Kong that I wasn’t going to count him out. I believe I did see King Kong 1976 and King Kong Lives 1986 during the 80s. I’m not sure if I saw them before KKvG 1962 but I did see them as a kid. So I always saw more Kong movies growing up. Then I would go to Universal Studios (Hollywood) and he was always there during our tram tours. That’s why while I think Godzilla is cooler and I love his more interesting designs and toys, I always had a soft spot for Curious George on steroids. So the next Godzilla movie I saw after KKvG was the 1998 film. This was over a decade after I saw KKvG. It was critically panned, so I didn’t watch it until it was available for rental. If it was never named Godzilla and just called it Cloverfield, it’s not really that bad. But I still don’t consider the movie to be any good. It’s still near the bottom. Some younger folks have nostalgia for it like 90s babies do for the Star Wars Prequels. Zilla does move the fastest and does move like a raptor. Every other Godzilla moves too slow and stiff. I did see King Kong 2005 in the theater with my girlfriend at the time. It was good. Felt it dragged a little too much at the end which isn’t surprising because it’s coming from Peter Jackson with his 25-minute ending for The Return of the King but it’s a great remake of the 1933 movie. It actually acts like three different movies in three different genres. It’s highly replayable. I really enjoyed the earlier scenes before they arrive at Skull Island. The next Godzilla movie I saw after the 1998 movie was really 2014. Honestly, I initially hated it. My gf and I couldn’t see a thing. We walked out of the theater feeling disappointed. We saw Godzilla for how long again? A little over 10 minutes? It’s only when I rewatched it at home is when it started to grow on me. But I still think Jurassic World 2015 is what Godzilla 2014 should’ve been. Bryan Cranston did act his ass off in it. Then I saw King of the Monsters in the theater in 2019. I initially liked it more than the 2014 film, but the truth is, I don’t remember much from it. I only remember it being very dark. I don’t even remember Mothra fighting Rodan in it until only yesterday. The human characters were so forgettable. That’s been MV’s biggest weakness. I like Vera Farmiga in Hawkeye but I completely forgot what she did in KOTM except being Millie’s mom. I did see Kong: Skull Island sometime around 2018 or 2019 on TV but it put me to sleep and I never finished it. Where I felt it peaked personally for me is when I saw Godzilla vs. Kong on my phone since not everyone was headed to the movie theaters in March of 2021. I do wish I did see it in the theater because I think fans would’ve cheered when they saw Godzilla and Kong team up to fight Mechagodzilla. I know GvK is more of a Kong movie and it seems more of the same with GxK as we see more Kong in the trailers than Godzilla. Should be renamed Kong vs. Godzilla and Kong x Godzilla, but like I said before, how compelling is Godzilla as an actual character and true protagonist? He’ll show up at the end of Monarch for a couple of minutes just to kick more ass. All these kaijus do is grunt and roar. I eventually saw Minus One around early December after getting my Hiya KOTM G19 and Minus One piqued my interest some more with anything Godzilla related. Then I watched Godzilla (1954), Godzilla Raids Again (1955), and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) shortly after Minus One. A lot of the Showa ones are available on Tubi. I bought more merch of Godzilla and Kong the following month. I’m excited for GxK because I haven’t seen a MV movie in the theater since 2019. And the trailer seems to have more daylight shots! Yay! I can see the action better. I plan to watch it on opening day and multiple times next to Godzilla and Kong fans. While I’m not the biggest fan on how Godzilla and Kong may look in this movie as I’m not feeling Big G’s pink and Big K looking older and more 2018 Kratos-like, there is still a great shot GxK will go down as my favorite Godzilla and Kong film ever. If the fights are badass enough, I could care less what the story is or how forgettable the human characters are again with the exception of Bernie Hayes and Jia. Brian Tyrese Henry is basically comic relief for MV at this point like he was in Bullet Train and Anthony Anderson was in Transformers (2007) and Tyrese Gibson was in Fast movies. I only want to see badass fights between giant monsters. I think fans whining that Godzilla will lose a fight to Kong in this needs to chill tf out. It’s a movie. A silly premise at that. Kick back and enjoy. Buy their toys later. This movie is not going to be nominated for Oscars. Just have fun and lighten up with this WWE buddy cop kaiju movie. I do think this movie should really be called Kong vs. Skar King with very little of Godzilla and the female ice dragon. Godzilla will save the day. He owes it to Kong.

What fans had to realize and should have realized since godzilla vs Kong is that kong entered scar kings domain and stole his axe, the hand print kn the door and on the wall are both the same, plus the Axe always belonged to scar king, just kong found it and took it, it was pretty obvious, it's made with muto bone, zilla back plate wrapped in !!!! SKIN!!!!!! You'd have to be pretty slow to not figure this out.
