Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage drum cover. Words cannot adequately describe the amount of groove in this song. The beat on the bell is just.. beautiful. The heavy parts surrounding it serve as an excellent contrast and the fast paced crescendo at the end is a satisfying finish to such a great song.
As you had probably noticed, I did have some difficulty in playing the very fast part at the end, before the final outro. My pedal speed isn't the best but I'm still okay with the way this recording turned out. Just letting you guys know, I am starting volleyball season. Therefore, I probably won't be uploading as much as I won't have as much free time to dedicate to music.
Audio recorded using my Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 mixer and edited on Garageband. Video captured using 2 different camera angles and edited on iMovie. Thanks for watching, like and subscribe!

Yeah every new stuff is hard in whatever involves your body. I am only 34 but already neck- back problems. This has a deep impact for the moment on my quality of life. (not only the consequence of playing drums) . But I think we should warm up before touching any drum stick, learn some exercices to avoid any problem and learn to rest a bit during a long drum session. Keep going man! good luck

I know why u hid your foot camera after 3:10... because your foot technique is shitty and your are not able to play 24 notes at 128 bpm... your are not even playing 16 notes, u are playing around 20 notes and this is not precise at all ! u should return to practise before showing technical songs not played well... sorry :/

@StrangeBlooDBoy 7 жыл бұрын
Benjamin michaluk After i first red your comment i asked myself how u did to hear the difference between a 24 and a 20 note played at around 128 bpm then i tried my best to compare the studio one with this drum cover to see if i could hear any difference on the drum kick intense moment at around 3:10 but i couldnt notice any raw, have you a trick to hear it or is it just experience ?
@keikofay9804

You may be correct on the technical part, and I partly agree with you. However, I played metal and punk for a long time, burnt out and then started playing again recently. Among my new-found metal faves, from a drumming perspective, include Brann Dailor and Mario DuPlantier. The latter seems to have a lack of how-to's and clinics online, so in the meantime, Enter Kevin. I rather appreciate that he's willing to share his areas of expertise, as well as his works-in-progress. I don't think he made any excuses for his visible exhaustion, playing the full version of this song!? Despite taking nearly 10 years off from playing myself, I'm glad to know that I correctly heard the first half of this catchy rudiment; the other half I'll have to work on to master it. In short, thanks, Kevin!

Hey man! Very nice groove, my compliments! A question: how did you learn the 0:26 -1:10 part? Just listening to the record or actually reading the score?
@iDrumGod
@iDrumGod 8 жыл бұрын
Now this may just be a complete guess... and it is... but I personally just listen to the track a hell of a lot on repeat and single out every beat I needed to get down. In other words, I'd try and play whatever sounded right. With most metal songs these days, there's not many ways to actually get access to the official drum scores. Learning them by ear and drum covers etc. tends to be the only way
@alemutasa6189
@alemutasa6189 8 жыл бұрын
iDrumGod Thank you for the response, very much appreciated (Y) However, I do that too but some tunes are just out of my league I suppose. Unfortunately, the "listen until you figure it out" didn't work for me this time (that's why I asked you), I listen to this whole album at least once or twice a week and still I'm amazed by how much little I understand what's going on when Mario makes the "frying" sounds on the snare (sorry, I don't know how it's called in English, in Italian "frying" is when the drummer hits the snare very gently in order to make a continuous sound that is kinda similar to frying food) :D

Man I just found this song on Spotify. I'm not an awesome drummer at all but I'm trying to get the main beat down (the one with the ride bell and the sick ghost notes on the drum). Do you have any pointers on how to start out? Should I work the bell then learn how to ghost, then add in the kick? I also notice that you're using the hihat foot to keep time, but I have not been able to do that in anything that I play. Do you have any tips? And you were great, thanks! I'll be studying your playing so I can at least feel I'm getting somewhere :)
@drums4life3
@drums4life3 8 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks! That's a great groove to learn because it's so challenging and yet so tasteful. I'd recommend just starting with the initial RLLRLL rudiment and getting very comfortable doing that. Hit hard using the right and use ghost notes on the snare.The bass drum is simply on the R. Then it goes to RR(l)RLLRRLL (the (l) just means you hit the snare hard instead of using ghost notes). This is a bit tougher but the bass drum is only on that first R. So in total we have RLLRLLRR(l)RLLRRLL with bass drum hits on the first 3 Rs. The second time the groove repeats but instead of doing the second RR you hit the right once and then accent the snare. That part you should really just listen to and learn. I usted the high hat clutch to keep the 8th note pulse but you don't need to do that until you're comfortable playing the groove. Good luck! I hope this helped

+Kevin Wade Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. As I'm not a trained drummer I've had a little bit of problems following some of your instructions, but I surely am trying! I've really tried to just get the ride and snare part of the groove down, but I think I'm missing something. I think I almost have it just from watching you play. Would you perhaps be interested in offering some sort of breakdown video of the parts of this song? I think it would be an awesome addition to your collection, and I'm sure that it would garner you a lot of hits :) I'd definitely watch it regularly, and post weekly videos as responses for my progress. I don't have any quality cameras, but I'm sure that a drummer of your calibre would be able to watch and offer some good suggestions as to a way to improve my incorrectness. Thanks again, and sorry I responded so late -- I noticed immediately that you responded, but was unable to properly reply due to crunch time at work.

+Xaero Degreaz I've definitely considered making song tutorials, and this groove would be a great start. I don't get back from school until Dec 17 so maybe I'll record it around then! Until then, I would just recommend listening to the groove and trying to feel it out as best you can. I agree, the RL notation doesn't really help me either (I learn all songs by ear). I totally understand being busy with work man, no worries!
@XaeroDegreaz

+Kevin Wade Hey man I think I have the main groove down! I still haven't gotten the double bass down, and I'm not sure that I'm 100% keeping perfect time + the ghosts, but I think I'm a lot better off by studying you. I've watched the last couple of videos that you've uploaded in anticipation of a real breakdown tutorial and I'm bursting at the seams with anticipation. I hope that you're able to make time soon even though I see you're definitely on to bigger and better things. Just wanted to update you :) Even my kids look at me like I'm a little more awesome every time they watch me do this ^^;
