The global economy is awash in too much debt, which continues to pile up at an exponential rate.
History is clear how such eras end. The purchasing power of currency gets destroyed.
To understand why the barbarous relic has risen to an all-time high and may have an even better year lying ahead, we have the good fortune to speak today with macro & precious metals expert Egon von Greyerz, Founder of Matterhorn Asset Management & GoldSwitzerland -- now known as vonGreyerz.gold

A very thought provoking interview. The wisdom and “old money” confidence in his perspective is refreshing. The outlook seems very dire and I wonder how investments in an online brokerage account will adapt…. let’s say one has $40k invested in wheat continuous contracts (WEET?) and wheat recovers some of its value….say 20 percent…. but the dollar begins to hyper inflate. Do you own some piece of a wheat future … or do you own paper that inflated to $250k but will only buy a couple hamburgers ?

I’m a huge fan of rare items whether it be vintage cars, sewing machines, guns or gold. My interest in what will never be produced again makes these items interesting and increases their value. Gold holds the rarity factor in old coins, newly minted bars in small releases and in its physical elemental state, comprising of just 0.003 percent of the earths crust. I have had small stakes in bitcoin and find it intriguing, however believe it has less value as an un-correlated asset to equities than gold because it has never been proven through the ages.

🤡🌎 The US Dollar WAS Backed by GOLD at $35/oz until 1971. 🤔 💭 Why ? Gold is universally recognized as a tradeable, divisible, reliable, fungible physical representation of energy and work. It is not art, does not decay, can be remelted. Gold is created in the core of a STAR and nowhere else. It takes energy and work to liberate Gold from the soil. *GOLD* backed Money *LIMITED GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND DEBT*. I’ve heard a lot of people saying that the only way that this debt can ever be taken care of is by default or by hyper inflating it away, but they failed to realize is that because the only way we can inflate the currency is to create exponentially more debt that means that the debt can never be inflated away, because the only way to cause the inflation is to create more debt most likely there will be hyperinflation, followed by complete Debt default

I greatly appreciate this incredibly enlightening video. Throughout times of economic turbulence, gold and silver have earned a reputation for their stability. Yet, it's essential not to underestimate the significance of cryptocurrencies, which present distinct opportunities such as liquidity, around-the-clock market access, and the potential for significant profits. Embracing the realm of crypto trading in this digital age could prove to be a prudent choice for substantial expansion. I'm indebted to Francine Duguay for her expert guidance, her deep crypto knowledge and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this journey, With her holistic investment approach and her commitment to staying current with market trends, she stands out as a formidable ally in the cryptocurrency world...

I believe it would be insightful for Adam to conduct interviews on immigration. Here are my thoughts: - Asserting that the U.S. requires immigrants to maintain its competitive edge may reflect the soft bigotry of low expectations. It might be more beneficial to promote trade schools as the primary path for many, ensuring that universities are reserved for those who truly fit there. - The idea that the U.S. should act as a haven for individuals from less prosperous countries could also be seen as a form of the soft bigotry of low expectations. It's important to recognize that Hispanic individuals are not racially inferior to white individuals, and they possess the capability to foster prosperity in their own nations. - The concept of strength through diversity is debatable. A culture's strength may actually stem from its homogeneity.

If you take the gold spot price and compensate for dollar devaluation you'll get a far less rosy picture, this is how you should really measure the gold "value increase" and purchasing power. Gold is a safe asset, it's good to have some (5-10%) but there are far better assets to hold over long periods of time.

The long debt cycle of history unfolds as Egon explains (debt defaults and asset prices collapse and economic relations get reset). The problem is the timing, length, and nature of the correction/collapse. Precious metals make sense as a store of wealth and possibly a medium of exchange, but the more important alternative is real assets. The short-term incentives of currency depreciation and devaluation is to borrow as much as possible of that paper currency to trade for real assets that will retain real value. So the message is borrow, borrow, borrow and buy, buy, buy. This only accelerates and amplifies the eventual reckoning. The market implication is that real estate and US mega-cap equities will continue to bubble up in nominal terms, if not real relative values. We have no political leaders to help manage this until crises hit; they're all Lilliputians for now.

He is of course 100% correct. The US cumulative deficit is doubling every 8 years. Our tax revenue/collections are approximately $4 trillion per year. We spend $5-6 trillion/year. There is no way out. We haven’t balanced our annual budget since Clinton, and that was just 1 year balanced. The US will default and restructure. The biggest chapter 11 of all time. But even with a zero deficit, we would still spend more than our tax revenue. So the deficit will just accumulate again. We simply spend more than we collect. SS and Medicare is over $2 trillion per year. Defense spending is approx $800 billion. That leaves about $1.2 trillion for all the other spending. We would half to fire at least 50% of all federal workers and stop all these special spending bills on states, foreign interest etc.

@@retroloungemusicaccording to chatgpt: As of my last update in January 2022, United States immigration policy is subject to change based on legislation, executive orders, and administrative decisions. However, I can provide an overview of some key aspects of US immigration policy up to that point: Legal Immigration: The United States accepts immigrants through various pathways, including family-based immigration, employment-based immigration, diversity visa lottery, and refugee/asylum programs. Each pathway has its own eligibility criteria and application process. Undocumented Immigration: The issue of undocumented immigration has been a contentious one in US politics. Policies and enforcement measures regarding undocumented immigrants have fluctuated over time, with debates focusing on border security, deportation priorities, and pathways to legal status. Border Security: Border security is a major component of US immigration policy, with a particular focus on the southern border with Mexico. Policies and initiatives aimed at border security include physical barriers, increased border patrol presence, surveillance technology, and immigration enforcement agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Temporary Visas: The US issues various types of temporary visas for purposes such as tourism, business, education, and employment. These include visas such as B-1/B-2 visitor visas, H-1B skilled worker visas, J-1 exchange visitor visas, and more. Refugee and Asylum Policy: The US has historically been a destination for refugees fleeing persecution and violence. Refugee and asylum policies determine eligibility criteria and procedures for those seeking protection in the United States. Deferred Action Programs: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program that provides temporary relief from deportation and work authorization to certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. The status of DACA and similar programs has been subject to legal and political challenges. It's important to note that immigration policy can be complex and subject to change through legislative action, executive orders, court decisions, and administrative actions. For the most current information on US immigration policy, it's advisable to consult official government sources or reputable news outlets.

I agree with everything EvG says, but I would put energy as first factor. Living standards will be lowered and the world population will fall radically when energy becomes scarce and expensive, probably in the 2nd half of this century.

We're at Peak Oil right now. The traditional wells Started shrinking many years ago. Fracking/shale oil extraction filled the gap over the last 15 years, but the fields are depleted and the cost of new extraction is rising to the point where it is uneconomical. Oil will rise dramatically over the next 5 years, adding to the inflation vortex exponentially. Only jard assets like gold and Bitcoin will protect your wealth.

There's a crap ton of oil under the Western United States. Huge reserved discovered during Bush, Jr... and the Federal government has been designating more and more land as "national parks" ever since. There's a shortage of oil because the people who own the oil companies also own the politicians... and they're creating false scarcity. Just like DeBeers with diamonds.

what is it with Gold and men with grey hair. It needs to be an - “after i got wealthy i need a low vol asset and will keep talking up it’s future performance” thing. When did we a relatively low vol. asset outperform the high vol. Assets over a greater span of time? When? When? When? When? I hope this guest will deliver and don’t talk his hope book a lot (i got the asset and am overweight, so i hope for my predictions to meet reality)

Gold is just a barbaric relic of the past, thats why all the sovereigns are hoarding it, right? Your volatility is priced in dollars. Look into US history when they confiscated gold and repriced it. 22oz of gold in 1975 buys an average house in the UK. 22oz of gold still buys an average house in the UK in 2024. The "grey hair - future performance" of gold "thing" is about understanding historical cycles that are longer than 20 years. Something those born post-internet struggle with. Look up at the Sun, and its cycles and what its throwing at us right now. And pray you never live to see another Carrington Event. Gold will survive. Electronics wont.

Do we live in normal times? Nope. Are we on the cliff of calamity because they want to introduce CBDCs and get the world's population to beg for it? Yes... So why then would you be concerned about past performance of gold vs. stocks and bonds when you know everything is about to completely change? I think people simply can't wrap their head around that....

@@petersheenan4482 And buying stocks during those "hard times" has always ended with the stock market (SPY) far, far outperforming GOLD, which is why GOLD ends up also selling off during stock market crashes. Go ahead and chart SPY vs GOLD from March 2009 to now. You didn't even have to be a good market timer. Even if you bought at the top in October 2007 and held to now, SPY still outperformed GOLD. The people that are ill-prepared and find themselves with NO gold , and NO silver, will have to work for this new money , just like they did for "good for nothing" paper pieces , as they did before. Silver , instead of paper dollars ,will be paid to purchase fire-wood or food , for a job well done . Those that slack and don,t work will not get anything , but a small waist for his whole family. Work or provide a wanted / needed service in a good manner , for the new currency / money that you negotiate for the job at hand , or you will be left with no food , from those that grew it and those that prepared and lived on their own and not as a pariah on the government, that is now defunct. And when you think about stealing it from those that are selling or providing silver or barter items you will have a very short life indeed.

The Famine, War, Death and Economic Collapse Egon von Greyerz describes is right out of the Book Of Revelation Revelation 6 1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. 2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. 3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. 4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. 5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. 7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. 8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. 9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. 12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

This gentleman has disconnected his economic reality perspective from his geopolitical reality perspective. If the current economic house of cards is going to collapse with 100% certainty, as he suggests, then we must look at geopolitical decisions through a different lens. Why would we make decisions that will attempt to save the current order? We must make decisions that put us in an advantageous post-collapse position. Those are radically different perspectives from which to make state decisions.
