Great review for an important piece of "equipment" that I never before considered until recently when I realized my grips are too thin for my hand size.

Want the midsize white tour wrap, been playing this for 30 years, but midsize white is 65 grams, will counter balance the club and keep the swing weights light, perfect.

One thing that wasn't mentioned... Be weary about using the heavier MCC Plus 4 grips though, if you're using them in Midsize or bigger they are quite heavy and will lower the swing weight of your clubs as result. They are 66 grams each whereas the standard Tour velvet grips are like 50 grams. An extra 16 grams in the handle is a big deal when it comes to swing weight.

This week I decided to get my clubs re-gripped. I have to be careful being a senior golfer and someone who can be prone to hitting somewhat left. I did try midsize grips and found their weight took away some needed swing speed. They did help with avoiding the left side though. My hands measure in between undersize and standard. So I have had to find the middle ground so to speak. I have chosen the Tour Velvet plus 4's in standard size. Still large enough to help a bit to avoid the left yet the grip weight isn't reducing my swing speed by upsetting the swing weight the way the mid size grips did. Took me a while to get this right but my results on the course are paying dividends.

Regarding adjustable loft clubs (most commonly Drivers, but being seen more and more in other Woods and Hybrids) an adjustment of the club away from the setting that was being used when the grip was installed can "throw-off" the grip's Align feature. This is similar to what the video mentions about bunker and flop shots that are purposefully made with a more open face angle. An option I'm considering is to install grips with the Align feature on non-adjustable Woods, Hybrids and Irons and install the same product line and colour of grips, but without the align feature, on adjustable clubs and on any very lofted Wedges. Golf Pride offers both options for several of its high-end product lines, such as the MCC and Z-Grip. I'll also mention that even hand placement guidelines and logos typically found on golf club grips can be "thrown-off" by adjustment of an adjustable club, but this is less significant than movement of the Align feature would be.

Thanks for your input Kevin. Probably worth just mentioning Callaway who used Align grips on the Epic Sped family as standard, have a a hosel system that means the grip doesn't need to rotate, when adjustments are being made for loft and face angle etc.

if you have a home compresser in your garage it easy to remove grips with air, or just twist them as they release. so if i change a driver setting and stick with it i just slip the grip round to align with the new setting.

At this stage GP were less keen for us to shoot a video like this on their putter grips. They mentioned nothing about new models, but we suspect it's something they have/are looking at very carefully. If new models were to become available we'd love to do a further video like this on putter grip selection. We love the insight just as much as you.

GREAT info. THANK YOU! A couple questions: 1) I’m one of the oddballs that like chords. Would that be the “Z” grip? 2) I’m very interested in the MCC Align, but I only seem to find it with the Plus 4. Even directly from Golf Pride, I don’t find the MCC Align without the Plus 4. Was that a mistake in your vid?
@todaysgolfer
@todaysgolfer 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate you taking the time. Golf Pride still make the MCC Align - link to their website page here www.golfpride.com/grips/mcc-align/ The Z-Grip is a corded grip, but you can also get a Tour Velvet Cord, and all versions of the MCC have areas of cord. Hope that helps?

You're going about it the right way and trying a couple of grips first. There has been a trend towards oversize grips over recent years, we're not huge fans, but don't let that put you off. If you grip the larger MCC +4 and like it, the confidence boost is worth more than just using traditional sized grips as that's what the market says you should. Hope that helps.

How would you say the tour velvet align compared to mcc align? Which do you prefer ?
@todaysgolfer
@todaysgolfer Жыл бұрын
For an all round combination of durability and feel we'd probably just be opting for the MCC Chuck. Align can be a bit marmite, so make sure you like the rib running down the back before purchasing. Hope that helps.

What is the difference between MCC midsize and MCC Plus4? Which would be best for preventing gripping the club too hard and getting wristy at impact? If I got MCC, I would get midsize but if I got MCC Plus4 would I get the midsize or standard? Thanks!
@todaysgolfer
@todaysgolfer 10 сағат бұрын
The difference is the MCC Midsize has a traditional taper down the grip where the MCC Plus4 is larger in the lower hand (to the equivalent of 4 extra tapes under the lower hand). The overall size of the grip doesn't change between the two models you mention so the choice is whether you like the feeling and need the extra size of the lower section of the Plus4 or not. Once you've made your choice the same size works in either grip model. Hope that helps?

Golf Pride make undersize grips too James. The CPX and Tour Velvet definitely are available smaller than standard. From our experience we'd choose something based on the feel you love.

If I play normal grips and add 2 layers of tape on my left hand and 3 layers of tape on my right hand being a right-handed golfer, would I just go Plus 4?
