I'd made very good experience using a spade. The wide blade opens the gap wide and lifting the spade up in an angle cuts the surface apart.

Ten years ago I had a house built in the Philippines. The guys only used a plumb bob and water level! I’ve always been impressed how good it turned out with such simple tools!

I have never seen a floor quite Iike this slate one. Donovan is spot on that the angle of attack could be much flatter. It was definitely a two man job. Great team work. Donovan's knowledge is amazing as is his work ethic.

Should have cut full depth 1 foot wide stripes into the floor before removing the layers with the machine, would have sped up the time it took

You can use a self leveling mix, like Ardex on your sloped floor 😊

Last time we had to remove a floor like that we ended up cutting it in like 2 foot squares first and it came up way faster. You guys have done a ton of work on this project.

The difference of youth. Matt jumps off scaffolding 14:02, Donovan carefully gets down 36:38. Fun watching the two of you work together. I used to be an electrician, so I want to get in there and get everything out of the way and delete the wires back.

I would think the easiest way to solve the level problem is to check the support below it and raise and brace or spread out some leveling compond.

When you're installing lag bolts it's helpful to start with a pilot hole. You can go along the run drilling shallow pilot holes, use a drill bit that's slightly smaller than your lag bolt diameter, then change tools and drive in the lag bolts. It may seem like an extra step but it save a lot of time and effort in the long run. Thanks for all your great videos. I'm a big fan!

Really enjoying this Addition, Renovation, Demolition, Remodeling Thingy series! I followed Essential Craftsman's spec house construction series (almost 200 episodes) which was interesting. But this series is on ANOTHER LEVEL! The constant problem solving and forward thinking is very fascinating 🤔 Donavan is the perfect professional for the job. His knowledge and skill is amazing 👏

That's so crazy. I'm watching this a few weeks after this video came out, but I was using one of those same breakers when this video was released. Had to get up some laminate flooring that was glued to our slab. It was some of the worse work I've ever done...

@@mcremona and I'll be here watching every one of them! I just have some boring painting to do on my house. But I have a friend who needs something like 30-40 trees cut down... Maybe 10-12 are mill worthy. I'm going to look into having them milled. Definitely need the ole garage cleared out by then. The big trees will be coming down this summer.

Nice floor scraper machine and spud bar combo. Like a one - two punch for slate flooring. After four hours of working like that you are ready to call it a day!

It seems like somebody could make a giant oscillating tool for floors. A chisel with a bent end that lays flatter on the floor would help. Having the wheels drive would help with that tool too.

Looks like the big green pry bar was still doing more than the jackhammer to remove the slate and cement board. I bet you are glad to have all that tile and cement board is done and gone.

Matt, you're lucky to have someone as professionally trained as Donovan to help on your remodeling project. There's 10 bad ones to every Donovaout there and finding someone as talented and honest as he is will make sure that your house will last to hand down to your children one day like they used to beck in the day.

Just do the layout for those larger fasteners with a drill. A little pilot hole, even just an inch deep, will help you land on the threads instead of the tip.

You were better than than that jackhammer. I think it was the screws holding down the cement board. I think tile on cement the jack hammer would be better.

Too bad you couldn’t use some form of shaped demolition charges to shatter and loosen the slate and cement board. You two are undertaking an incredible process.
