The best thing about this statement is it sounds silly but is 100% true!* XD *(Okay, there are probably _some_ fans out there who are all Mob like and repressing their emotions, and thus _technically_ haven't cried while watching One Piece. I don't think they get the cool psychic powers from it, though. ;) ...and now I am sad because I _need_ to know what would happen if Mob watched One Piece! XD)

When "Dear Friends" kicks in my eyes get watery... when Merry says "I'm sorry" tears start flowing and when she hits us with the "But I've been happy" I'm sobbing uncontrollably EVERY TIME I watch this scene.... I would have to try very hard not to

You are definitely correct in a big way this entire arc is the transition from playing pirates, to actually becoming a pirate crew. Luffy having to step up as an actual captain for the first time was a big thing as well. This is definitely the passing of innocence.

info dump - Going Merry 's spirit is known as "Klabautermann". the word comes from low German. it is a lore/myth among the sailors from Baltic & North sea. - a Klabautermann ( a diligent creature / spirit) appears as a little sailor wearing a yellow raincoat, woolen hat and with a tobaco pipe. .... as the lore goes - It is believed that a Klabautermann appears to rescue sailors washed overboard, and it's appearance means ... it is the end of that that ship. ** again ... Eiichiro Oda showed his mastery

I am always crying at that scene when Merry says she's sorry. anyone who has watched One Piece has, and if they say they didn't cry either hasn't truly watched the series or is a god damn liar. No matter how many times I have seen that scene it is one of the few that always brings me to tears.

I love that they gave Merry a viking funeral. Couldn't have asked for better than that. A true sign of respect for a comrade. I've mentioned this before, but even Oda cried while he was drawing this. So you know that if it's going to make him cry, he'll make damn sure we cry too. On a positive note, Spanda getting his back broken like that by Robin felt extremely exhilarating.

I Love how Oda portrays the scene. The ship breaks in half not only to show it can't be ridden anymore but also looks like the going Merry is bowing to Iceberg to thank him for giving it the patch-up job it needed to save the crew 1 last time.

Lmao, cried again, so that's what.. 18? 19? times for one good crewmate. I love these episodes, but every.single.time she says that she's sorry.. It just stabs me in the heart again. This is why one piece is considered one of the greatest series' of all time, especially of the shounen genre. How many others can hit you like this? How many others allow their characters to be this emotionally open and let you see and hear their pain? The VAs do such an amazing job and yeah, most others can't even begin to compare. Not sure if I am ready to see it again but I am super excited for your reaction Tissues ready. Its just not possible to not cry in those scenes They are made perfect. Everything of these scenes is perfect. Luffy apologizing, Usopp finally accepting it, and Merry herself saying how much she enjoyed everything Alright lets go. One Piece crying day.

Crying like a baby during this episode is a rite of passage for One Piece fans. Also, can I just say that the "Luffy wants to fight too" is one of the best gags of the series; especially the ending of it with Zoro, Sanji and even Luffy throwing up the V for Victory sign.

Fun fact: Luffy's VA said in some interview that usopp's VA once come to her and spoil Merry's funeral to her which then she started to read the chapter and ugly crying, she blame Usopp VA for doing so

Want to me to break your heart even more? Notice how the Merry broke just as the Galley La ship arrived? That was no coincidence, it means she was literally slowly breaking the entire journey to Enies Lobby and back but refused to break in half until she got them to safety.

11:19 Random comment: to actually lift and roll people with this move (now it's Luffy, but she beat the big guy from Skypiea with that) with only arm strength, Robin's gotta be freakish strong. Think about it, she's not using any torso, shoulder and leg strength as we actually do to lift stuff.
