Greenidge & Haynes are perhaps the best ever opening pair in the history of world cricket 🏏 Was a treat watching them as there was class written all over them when they stepped in to bat. Greenidge & Haynes were a peerless pair & absolute legends 👌 👌 👌

When I was a young cricketer Gordon Greenidge was the batsman I wanted to be. Not Chappell or Hughes or Border or even Viv Richards. I could watch Gordon Greenidge all day. Beautiful.

Greenidge and Haynes my favourite openers until Hayden and Langer came along. Much respect from an Aussie. They were great.

It's not a minor feat to get a good opening partnership against such an excellent pace attack in Australia.

Hogg was very fast
@avijitsikdar26042 жыл бұрын
Yes, Hogg was quite nippy, so were Lawson and Rackemann. All three have very good test records but none better than Alderman. He was devastating in English conditions. In 12 Ashes tests he played in England, picked up a staggering 83 wickets!!!

@@avijitsikdar2604 As you mentioned all 4 fast bowlers had great record. Which means they were the best in the country and integral part of Aussies attack and not journeymen, yet WI batters destroyed Australia year after year that just shows how good the WI team was from 1976-1995

@@boymeetsbush8232 Absolutely true. Everyone talks about the awesome fast bowlers of the West Indian team in their hey days. But their batting was outstanding too... Greenidge, Fredricks, Haynes, Richards, Kallicharan, Gomes, Lloyd, Richardson...followed by Dujon...just marvelous...

@@avijitsikdar2604 100% agree. Also the slip catching was amazing. Some of Clive Lloyd's catches in 1984 series in Australia at age 40 are like how does he bends so low.

@@boymeetsbush8232 Yes, not only catching, their out fielding was out of the world...who can forget Viv's 4 runouts in the 75 world cup finals! Everybody in the team was outstanding fielder. The fast bowlers were all athletic and top class in the field too barring Courtney Walsh...

West Indies schedule to tour Australia for two test match in November and December ,no one should accept two test match between Australia and West Indies ,it should be 3 test match series .

I don't understand how someone could have a bowling action like Geoff Lawson and no cricket coach ever bothered to correct it.

@@garfield4108 Yes I am. Did you think that bowling action helped make him the great that he is? This time I am being sarcastic.
@garfield41082 жыл бұрын
@@denvercheddie Ah ok. I'm curious as to what you think was wrong with his action?
@denvercheddie2 жыл бұрын
@@garfield4108 It was not a very smooth action. Look at 2:28 for example, how he kicked his left foot to the inside (right) like a ballet dancer before planting it on the crease. I think if he could have avoided that side kick and just planted his foot forward, he would have been more efficient. I could be wrong, but to me if just looks weird. I grew up watching cricket in this era and I always thought he had a funny action. And looking back now, I am even more convinced.

Coaching was not as invasive and over analytical in those days and players operated more on their natural ability, style and their own personal fitness.
