@@GoughCustom Kydex is for rookies! I am returning the leather ... Kydex has scratched all my blades that came with it as standard. Some expensive blades now have Kydex damage !!! I wish blade manufacturers would give you a choice between Kydex for kids or a leather sheath for all blades over $200 ... the leather would be an optional extra (higher cost) ...

@mathew howard unless your steel is softer than kydex the scratches must be coming from other contaminants, ie. dirt, sand, etc. i made the mistake of not cleaning my kydex off before making my first few and abrasive dust from my grinder and other steel dust made its way inside and was putting scratches on my knives. once i started cleaning my sheaths and giving them a rinse now and then i haven't had any issue. just my experience tho.

@@GoughCustom After 4 years I've ended up back here on this video and I would like to make a few observations: I now own a Gough Custom Knife, and it is utterly superb. It is without doubt the most reliable knife I own, because I can trust the manufacturing process, the heat treat, design and materials. I initially thought there was a slight defect with the kydex sheath and emailed them. Gough replied, and precisely explained the indent I was referring to, why it was deliberate, and the precise function it served. There is nothing on this knife or sheath that is "accidental" or a "manufacturing flaw". If you want a 100% reliable knife that you can take to the desert OR Antarctica, and you need to know you can trust completely, well this is 500 Canadian well spent. As for the argument about Kydex versus Leather sheaths ... Im a fan of both, but neither is "best", even though I love leather sheaths in a temperate climate. Leather sheaths work best with stacked leather/wooden handles. You can slather your sheath with all kinds of lovely oil/wax treatments, and if they hit your handle, they soak into it and preserve the handle too! Its a lovely Scandinavian virtuous circle. Kydex sheaths work best with synthetic handles. Where you only oil the blade, and you DONT want oils on your handle because they will only make it slippery. Setting my personal preferences aside, the Gough Custom knife and sheath, will not rot in the jungle, will not fail at -30 degrees, and if I had to bug-out tomorrow and only take one knife from my collection with me, it would be that one. And when I said that, I winced from the realisation of the knives I would leave behind. Gough makes perfect knives, at precisely the specification he advertises, and they are worth every penny.

Very good video I especially liked the press you made. Had a pretty good chuckle at "Did you add the drain". I have an old drinking buddy in new Hampshire that is a smith that adds three drain holes at 90 degree increments to each other on his D2 hunting knives. I had to ask him about it because I didn't see the purpose but some folks prefer to wear a blade sideways across the belt. Some to look tacticool I suppose but others find it less intrusive. Having just bought some smaller EDCs I'm kinda leaning that way myself as they are more comfortable than my bushblades to carry around because they don't dangle like a tumor.

'Scout' carry (sideways carry) is definitely getting more popular. I would like to make a mounting option for my sheaths so they can be carried that way soon!
@andrelarocque5967

I think most of the time when I see it comes with a configuration for both by twisting the mount in different 90 degree locks. Not sure how that mechanism works.

Yay thank you. I'm going to try this. I'm a gardener and martial artist so I'm crazy excited about being able to make custom carry methods for tools. Leather seems too time intensive and I hate what happens when it gets wet. I also can't stand belt loops as opposed to clips. Kydex seems like the solution.

Love the videos and the thought you put into your products. I wish my Resolute would have been here a little sooner. I went through a Buck and Kershaw knife while gutting my house thanks to the Louisiana floods. All is good, apparently it's time for another sharpening. Anxiously awaiting my Gough Custom delivery! I hope to take it on my son's first camping trip!
