Dr. Pete goes live to speak about the type and amounts of protein to eat in the gout protocol. He answers the following questions: How much protein should I eat? What types of protein should I eat? Can I calculate how much protein I should eat? How does the amount of protein fit in to the other macronutrients I am also eating? Put your gout in remission with this simple way of eating.

Fantastic presentation. Thank you. Can you present a piece about the mathematics of food tracking so that you can see how many grams (and percentages) you can consume daily of Carbs, fat and protein to stay within those limits you discuss. It will be appreciated.

I appreciated and can relate to your in-video comment on learning to like brussel sprouts later in life. In my case it was mushrooms and nuts. I spent the first 57 years of my life having never eaten mushrooms or nuts (with exception for smooth peanut butter like Skippy or JIF that my mom started me on my when I was a kid). I always thought nuts smelled like plywood and I thought mushrooms smelled like damp moldy wood. Last summer I learned of some of the health and nutrition benefits and decided to ignore what I thought about the smell and incorporate them into my diet. Near instantaneously I learned to love both mushrooms and nuts. It is now like I am making up for 57 years of lost ground. I can't get enough of either of them. I have pretty much ditched peanut butter. I don't really care for it anymore. It now seems bland and boring by comparison to actual real nuts. I get the deluxe mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans, macadamia) and then spike the store mixture with additional fatty, but more more expensive pecans, macadamia, hazelnut, and brazil nuts. l also like walnuts well enough, but they are bit on the woody side for my taste. No gout flares for me and no big spikes in blood sugar. The complex carbs in mixed nuts are the least offensive type of carbs and the carbs and protein in nuts digest quite slowly in comparison to most other foods. My blood sugar only goes up about 15 points after a meal size portion of nuts. I would be curious to learn more about the keto / blood sugar experience of others with respect to mixed nuts. I started eating brussel sprouts about 20 years ago when I was in my late 30s. I think I first had them in some type of tasty casserole dish at a potluck where the dirty socks locker room smell was somewhat disguised. I will eat them however they are prepared, but prefer them steamed with butter, garlic, salt and pepper.

I like your approach with the nuts. If things are working then don't change anything. Nice job!

Dr Pete, this is very valuable! Great and very detailed as you course which I highly recommend to the individuals embarking on the keto journey . May I ask what is your take on consuming bacon (with eggs in the first meal of the day as an example). How does it affect you if you ever experimented ? I totally understand that your biology is not mine, but I have a sense it causes a bit of a UA spike in my case for some unexplainable reason. I will be monitoring it closely.

Hello Roman! Yes, bacon will spike UA. I do eat bacon, however, it is not recommended that you eat a lot of it. Remember, also, that bacon is processed. So I make sure to buy uncured bacon-no sugar. Rather than bacon I recommend pairing other unprocessed meats with eggs. Ultimately, balancing getting enough protein with uric acid production is one aspect of bringing hyperuricemia down once you have established keto-adaption.
