You might assume this is a lot of miles, but I'm just one of many who can't stop driving this car!
I know, I know... it's almost as if nothing could possibly be wrong, and well... for the most part, that is true.
BUT... we do run into a minor issue and a few changes of heart in a few areas of the car.
You've seen the 2000 and 9000-mile updates... and we are back at 15000 miles. What's changed, what's the same, how do you feel about it CarQuicks!?
I have some things to talk about...

I am finally taking ownership of my Canadian(standard front and rear LSD and heated seats) Core GR tomorrow. I cant wait! Same color as yours. Originaly ordered a circuit ed in gray and am getting what I'm getting after almost 2 years of wait so I'm not choosy especially since here the LSDs are standard. I use a barrel blade to get between the dust shield but I think you can also use a pain stirrer wrapped around a microfiber cloth. I still need to use brush for the bit between the calipers but you could also move the car a bit and then clean it.

@@CarQuicks so far the barrel brush is what I would suggest I also use a EZ Detail Brush Big (sure small would be fine but wasn't available with prime) the bristles bounce back instead of crush like the cheaper clones. I just rise them with the pressure washer after each use. The EZ Detail is still a twisted metal shaft and a rubber tip. Dont want to loose that or could nick the caliper paint. If it does get lost maybe ill get some plasti dip in a can rather then a spray. Also a side note Adams Polishes says their ceramic coat should stand the heat of the calipers so will try to coat the calipers but I don't really see build up on the face more the sides.

Don't know if you've ever mentioned it before, but how's the pedal box/leg position situation? I'm 6'1, and my wife's Corolla seating position/pedal position makes it hard to drive for more than an hour or so, because my knees and hips do a 90 at both like I'm sitting in a chair at the dinner table, and neither joints or my back like that. She and I both really want her to get it, and a hatchback would make long distance trips really nice too. I own a GT86, so my seating position is much less dinner table chair and legs are much more extended forward
@CarQuicks
@CarQuicks 9 ай бұрын
So, I haven't driven a regular Corolla Hatchback, but I am 6'3" and do not have any issue being comfortable in the car. The seat is a little high, but soon that will be rectified, but the overall driving position is not like sitting upright on a chair. I also have long legs as opposed to a long torso, which may be a factor. Overall, its comfortable and I daily drive it.
@ezioahmet4192
@ezioahmet4192 9 ай бұрын
@@CarQuicks hers is the standard 2005 Corolla, so no hatch around then. I'm in the same boat with longer legs than torso, but I'm fairly close to being 50/50. But I'm happy to hear you have no issues being a guy with long legs, so that hopefully means trips in one won't be any issue. Thanks for the info!

So, I have seen this happening to a few owners, but I can report that mine have not. I suspect that some GR Corollas came from the factory with a pretty aggressive alignment. I seem to have missed that new change or mistake, depending on what Toyota would say about it.
@mxracingunlimitedltd7784

I love the way these cars look. I just cant find any local to test drive. I cant buy a 45k$+ car without test driving it first.. Also as far for the Brake Dust. The Toyota GR uses the Brakes individually, along with the F & R Diff's to control wheel speed, slow a spinning wheel alittle, etc. Just like it can control an individual brake caliper with the ABS, it can do the same for handling/stability control.. Sometimes its Brake Force Distribution, and then also called E-Diff when used like i was saying at first for performance and traction.
@CarQuicks
@CarQuicks 4 ай бұрын
YEs, I have heard of that process on e-Diff equipped cars, as it "acts" like a mechanical diff. The GR Corolla's have mechanical differentials, so all of this is just from the stopping of the car normally. Which is extremely good, but dusty. LOL. As for a test drive, I also did not do a test drive, but I was so sold on the GR Corolla it would have had to be the absolute worst car I ever drove to not love it. Plus, I had watched every single first drive, test drive, car preview I could and understood what I was getting into. Fomr the first time I drove it off the lot, driving home 5 hours... it felt exactly like I imagined. If you can search FB for local GR Corolla owner groups and you may find a few people willing to let you test drive or at least ride in the car.
@mxracingunlimitedltd7784
@mxracingunlimitedltd7784 4 ай бұрын
@@CarQuicks Yeah i seen that there's actually the better one with the Mechanical Diffs for the Front & Rear and then you have basically a solid T/C. Its a nice AWD setup with the fact the rear wheels are overdriven to get a true 30/70, 40/60, etc F&R Split. That's extremely impressive. You dont see that from Toyota anymore. These Toyota GR car's are really well developed cars and with the rear clutch pack system to adjust from 0-100%, it is a nice setup!

So I have run a rear facing car seat for my daughter. It can be done, though how tall you are or the passenger will determine how comfortable it is. For reference, I’ve had all 3 of my kids and my wife in the car. One in a full car seat, one in a booster, my wife and oldest. And I’m 6’3”. I’m not saying is was spacious lol but I do it pretty frequently (kids like my car haha) going to friends houses, out to eat, etc.

Yeah, the parking sensors, while convenient, add ALOT of price back to the car for any repairs or changes. The 2024 have nice new additions, but nothing they nave makes me feel I missed out. I own the same car Corolla GR Ice cap white purchased with 22 miles on July 30th now have 4k miles .. I do lot of highway miles too.. I have a couple tiny rock chips .. I just learn to drive with plenty of distance so you minimize rock chips. As far as PPF not worth doing full car I paid 38200 MSRP plus tax NO MARK or addendums for the car and to spend 4k to do PPF this isn’t a 100k car… I might do the front bumper and side skirts and hood.. I will also be doing a intercooler upgrade to help with the heat soaking down here in Florida.

I was in the exact same boat… I kept saying I’m basically buying $5000 screen protectors lol (even though I know it’s engineered more than that), but it’s not a permanent thing. It does need to be relaxed and the amount of highway driving I do, even the little I did do I can see it’s west/tear and dirt from the time I’ve had it. So, ultimately in the very near future I need to replace it, but I will just go the polish and ceramic way for ease of use and changes.

You went for the cheaper ppf service that uses precut film kit for your model. More reputable places will custom cut larger pieces and wrap around every component so that the film edge is never is exposed outside.
@CarQuicks
@CarQuicks 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I went down that route, I never explained that part, but I visited the places doing custom cuts. There isn't a separation of reputable ones who do and those who don't, it's more so based on the price, and who their target clientele is. The film part is one of the highest in the market. The part of taking whole sheets of Xpel or any other brand exponentially raised the price. Now if this was a Huracan STO, I could understand, but spending thousands on a front clip custom cut just didn't make sense to me. But, you are not wrong, you can have anything custom cut to your car, it'll just cost you the price of a GR Corolla lol Let me add, that where you live plays a role too, because I've talked with other owners who have WILD deals in their city, and well... this city, not so much.

@@CarQuicks yeah where I live in Toronto I got my golf R full front ppfed wrapped around (3m Scotchguard pro) around for about 2,200 Canadian, my sister's Tesla Y full front was precut (xpel ultimate plus 7) and was around 1,700. So I guess about 30% more expensive than precut. Love your gr Corolla though, looks amazing, look forward to your updates and journey.

I'm probably going to sell my 1999 5thgen Honda Prelude w/manual shift and possibly sell my 2017 VA chassis WRX this year. After selling those 2 personal vehicles, I'll still have my 05 Saabaru and my 2007 Ford F350 6.0l DRW Lariat. So I'll need something else with a manual shift, AWD and a hatchback. I have a Supersonic Red GR Corolla Circuit Edition in 🇨🇦. While my wife and I thoroughly enjoy the car there are some things that could be improved… I hate the volume knob on the screen but I’m happy that there is a volume knob to hate 😂. I’m still trying to tweak the radio settings to get it to be acceptable for a little while, do you have a video showing your settings so I can give those a shot? I don’t particularly like the cruise control setup and I prefer to have the little stock behind the steering wheel like in my 2016 4Runner but the 4Runner doesn’t have all the fancy adaptive cruise control stuff and they could’ve changed on newer 4runners but I still prefer to have it behind and on the bottom right of the steering wheel with the little stick style. This is a complaint against all screens that just stick out of the dash and aren’t incorporated nicely but that’s majority of vehicles unfortunately…as you can tell from what I’m complaining about, I’m a bit old school even thought I’m not THAT old 😂 (42 years old). I just don’t like tech for the sake of adding tech when it actually takes away from the ease of use and accessibility of things. You should be concentrating on driving and not diving in to menus to get stuff accomplished but too many buttons are also annoying…at times I can contradict myself and I’m ok with that ha ha. My wife doesn’t like that the clutch release point is so high and prefers a lower release and if you have to drive on bumpy roads 1st gear can make it seem like you don’t know how to drive a manual car 😂. Do you think someone will come out with a better wireless charger because the stock one is HORRIBLE…I haven’t taken apart the car to see what’s involved and if it’s even possible. I don’t like piano or gloss black on the interior and exterior, on the interior I’m considering vinyl wrapping it or doing a matte PPF…maybe 🤔. None of these things take away from the actual driving experience in any way and I don’t see us selling the car anytime soon…in fact we are planning to save it for our son and he’s only 3.5 years old right now 😂.
@CarQuicks
@CarQuicks 9 ай бұрын
Haha... you hit every point I mentioned too in the previous Update videos. Now I will say the wireless charger I forgot to speak about because I've literally ignored it, after attempting reasonable charges when I first bought the car. I might as well figure out a way to make a little cubby space. LOL. The cruise control in Toyota (my wife drives a 2022 Sienna XSE) is aggressive at times, especially if you do not adjust the distance meter, it will slow down for any car that crosses paths far away. The piano black has surprisingly held up, but I have also thought about a matte vinyl wrap to stop the fingerprints from consuming my life.

First oil change, by the manual is due at 5000 miles. I and many other owners performed our first pol change, whether right after break-in (621 miles) or at 1000 miles. Even if you are above those miles, I would reccommend a change before 5000, but if you are very close, to make sure it is completed at that interval.

Wait! What? Is it not still like the day after Thanksgiving? Is it more like the day after President's Day? LOL! Bummer on the grill, but that should be a warranty fix for sure. This TX heat will do things like that and more, your windshield sun blocker is a must here...and you said it doesn't snow here? Did you forget the snow of 2021 and the ice of 2022? Then again, maybe it didn't hit your neck of the woods as it did me in RR. Again, I like the functional mods you've added...rear strut, arm rest, shifter bushings and did I hear you say a motor mount poly urethan bushing? Toyota paint has never been their high point that's for sure, and especially white...sad to say. Oh that rear wiper delete is also a very nice touch to the car. My daily is on the 35 and the 130 toll, so when/if I get one of these that'll be a test to see how it holds up, which I'm thinking it will be good. Looking forward to the 25k update. What oil are you using, OEM?
@CarQuicks
@CarQuicks 2 ай бұрын
Thankfully the grille was replaced without issue under warranty. As for the oil, I was using OEM from the dealer on the included service but will switch to something like Amsoil or Motul. Ice/winter for Texas is a dice roll, we don't setup our cars in anticipation for it because it won't happen ech year, not for the area I live in Texas (Houston area). This year there was a little cold and some freezing for 1 day.

@CarQuicks
@CarQuicks 6 ай бұрын
There wasn't much I disliked about the S2000 at all. Both cars are VERY different and have different goals. Power will always go to the GR Corolla for its motor. But the connected, RAW feeling of driving goes to the S2000. While the 3-cylinder turbo is unique in its own right, nothing can be said negatively about what Honda created with eh a 9000-RPM engine, it sounded glorious. For me, I had an opportunity to pursue something else, which is why the S2000 was sold, but if I had the means to keep every car I owned, I would. I do miss it. But as I said both cars are very different, you have to know what you are after to decide which is better for you.

That is something I want to look up, I was remembering from someone on the GR Corolla forum that that option wasn't there or if it was did not react the same. I haven't seen any real deep dive on the differences, but I suspect if it's a marginal advantage on a track, a lot more people would just find the base model Core and be happy.

Yeah, the armrest for me has been fine. I’m not going to say it’s OEM Corolla Hatchback good, but it’s been holding it down. I’ve heard from a few people you may need the retighten the screws from the plate. I was also intrigued by the stabilizer plate, but that I had issues, but if it adds some more rigidity to it, I’m not mad. However, I will say at some point they probably just want to leave it as is. Adding more and more small parts or fixes may be better served for someone to create a ground up solution, outside of Toyota.

I know for certain they didn't as we went through the car when it was first done, under bright shop lights covering everything. I really do believe the excessive heat we had here in Texas and driving, bumps, roads, etc. caused the clicks to become overly brittle and crack. I mean we had 111-115-degree days for a week straight! Without any indication of a hit, I can't see Toyota trying to deny it, they'd have to prove somehow, I did it... which I didn't. But a simple fix, nonetheless.

From a holistic view I see what you are trying to say here. However you missed the context to the room you decided to enter. You didn’t read it. Example… to discuss a car in this manner is to hone in deeply on the subject matter, and bring forth a discussion or conversation on the opinions that could, or could not be placed on ownership of said subject. In this case it’s a car. In another case, you could ask me why I love cooking or producing music. The conversation would shift now to a in-depth look into the reason why I enjoy those arenas. And if you were to enter those rooms and hear me speak to the joys of having keyboards or testing recipes, the conversation would lend itself to theorizing on opinions other could have or do have. Understand that context so as to not approach a video, such as this and assume my world revolves around material possessions.

If you want more detail specific to the car itself, you need to go back to the videos where I broke all that down. This is more an update on how it’s been for me, since the last time I ran an update. Here are a couple of key takeaways in regards to the GR COROLLA: - Mechanically: for a perspective owner, in 15K miles I haven’t done anything major outside of oil and tire rotations. And I drive is hard. I don’t beat on it. - Exterior: Aside from PPF on the front bumper, lights and mirrors, it has held up well (aside from the grille tabs), considering I daily drive it on a highway at highway speeds every single day. Paint being thin has still shown to last and I live in an excessively hot state. - Interior: for any concerns on “cheap-ness” or if the more basic interior of the Core model was a concern, in 15K miles I haven’t had anything show itself to fall apart, wear out or become unusable. Seats are still comfortable and bolsters are still holding firm for a person my size. - Ownership: this is probably the intangible part you call fluff… see here is where YMMV but a question that gets raised, or one that I am asked is how has it been. Most people want someone who is beyond the placebo effect of the first 5000 miles. Is the car still fun? Has the daily driving worn you out? Has the maintenance become too much? See you add all that up in the conversation, from the first 2000-mile review, 9000-mile to now (15,000), and you get an overall understanding of what my ownership has been. As the videos progress we talk less and less about the car specifically and my into my experience… which unfortunately will be a conversation. Maybe even long winded and it may just not be for you. Which is ok, I’m not here to make every single video appease to every person, some will, some won’t. This one didn’t for you, but above is a quick breakdown of my thought pattern on the main points. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching!

What you failed to realize, is that you are expressing your experience. You don’t like the car. And that is your experience. You can’t place that in anyone else but yourself. If there was a resounding call for the car to be removed from the streets or a continued cry for how bad the interior is, you would have a place to say “excuses” were made. But you don’t and you also do not have to. If the words you want to use are “dog s***” for this interior, we have a vast difference of opinion on when and where that phrase is appropriate. However, with all that said, I hope you find the car that resonates with you and makes you enjoying driving. Thanks for watching and the comment!

Magnaflow exhaust sounds amazing, even next to the prototype I've tested and heard from 2J-Racing, Magnaflow is also equally as good. The Eventuri intake looks great, but I can't at this point, spend that much on just an intake. Not saying I wouldn't but right now I'm not interested in that, I would prefer a more OEM looking intake like what Forge Motorports has done. ECUTEK and any tuning options I'm waiting for the market to allow easy setup through Bluetooth controllers or OBD2 controller and the ability to email tunes... currently where I live, we have to either pay for a tuner to fly out or ship the ECU. But all of those mods you've done are exactly the angle I will most likely take.
