Reinbacher had 22 points in 46 games as an 18-year-old in a men’s league. Roman Josi had eight points in 35 games in his draft year while playing in the same league.

Have you SEEN the guy play ??? His points were ALL secondary assists or shots where he was lucky his teammates put the rebound in the net. He doesn’t have any offence in his game AT ALL. Worst pick in Franchise History.

The Reinbacher doubters may be right, but a lot of this reminds of Mo Seider. Reinbacher put up a half pt per game as a rookie D in the top Swiss league, that league is no joke.

You nailed it. Reinbacher literally reminds me of Moritz Seider being selected wayyy too early on the draft board, but it’s a genius move on Yzerman and his amateur scouting staff in hindsight.

Idk, Simashev and But weren’t terrible picks but Armstrong did leave a lot of higher potential prospects on the board. We’ll see how they pan out in 2-4 years down the road

Nah I'm sorry, so wrong. Yotes took 2 players that will play in the nhl. Both have nice ceilings. Simashev could've easily gone 8 to washington or 9 to Detroit. He's a GREAT prospect, better than reinbacher. I was literally praying Simashev would drop to 14 for dubas. And But would fall to 21 for MN. They may have "reached" for these players, but they definitely didn't take as big of a L as the Habs drafting reinbacher at 5 and getting newhook for the 2 picks

Your grading system is weird, Grav. SJ get a B taking Will Smith? With Bedard, Carlsson, and Fantilli off the board, who were they supposed to take in order to get a B+ or an A? Whether or not one team gets an A or a B seems to be based entirely on having higher ranked guys falling into peoples’ laps. I’m not saying you shouldn’t give a good mark to a team that lucked out, but you need to also give good marks when teams take the guy they were supposed to take, especially in the top 10.

Dont even see much risk for Michkov. He sure sounds like he wants to come over. 3 years might even be a blessing for them. Start their tear down now and then have a ascending core in 3 years and Michkov will be on an ELC.

Thats the thing you didnt get yet, Michkov is not coming here on a ELC. He will cash in as much as possible in russia and by the time he come here he will have the right to avoid the ELC Or maybe play only 1 year under the ELC.

@@TheJpyne518 i will repeat myself, Matvei Michkov is not coming in the NHL under a 3 years ELC contract. There are ways to burn years of ELC im not aware of all of them but if he’s coming here under a ELC its 1 year top.

Saying that Simashev who had 10 pts in 29 games playing in the MHL(Russian Jr. hockey) and 0 in 18 KHL games is better than Reinbacher who had 22 pts in 46 games in the Swiss-A PRO league is wild.

I think Graviteh is severely underrating Reinbacher. The scouts and professionals rank him the best 1st Dman for a reason, and his stats are very indicative that he could excel.

Checking out the David Reinbacker profile videos on you tube . I am coming around and think Kent Huges and team did a mystery good choice . As hard as my jaw hit the floor . I think with what Montreal Has . Is what Toronto has Needed , a Right Handed top 4 Defenceman , that arguably could be the best defenceman of the draft . I think Montreal did just fine . Next year they will draft all Canadian Forwards with the best potential 5'11 , 180 pound plus in size and draft a high potential 6'5 Goaltender . and then by 2027 the Habs will be a contending for the Stanley Cup . And hopefully Gary Bettman has dropped dead by then .

Yeah, you've totally missed the boat on a bunch of these. Giving Danielson and Dvorsky picks the same grade as the Wood pick = uhh what??? The rest of his game is nowhere near complete, let alone elite. He's a one zone player who doesn't use his size in dirty areas or drive play. The guy's a passenger who only scores trailing rushes or on the PP. AND the next forwards off the board were Honzek, Barlow and Moore - that's a hard faceplant fail. Danielson and Dvorsky are drivers and bosses. Same with Reinbacher.

Honestly i await what Lamoriello does tomorrow. He had a very sneaky draft last year, and even if the isles have just 5 picks, I think them getting Ziemmer or Heidt or even Morin could help them down the line.

While Ive had my wonders as to why the Habs selected Reinbacher, after reading some articles and watching some videos on both Easton Cowan and David Reinbacher, my opinion has changed. Easton Cowan had a really slow beginning to his latest season but thrived in the last half. Not only that but he was above a point per game in the playoffs. He has great offensive ability, a hard worker for pucks, great at battling, has a solid and precise long range and one timer shots in front of the net. Reinbacher, Elite Prospects refer to Reinbacher has the potential to be a more Two-Way minded Seider. I think with a bit of development, Reinbacher will thrive with the Habs and their development system.

Danielson is better than a C. Watched him play multiple times in Regina this year against Bedard. Bedard had a very hard time handling him.

Really like your ratings and impressive insight into virtually all of these new rookies. My only gripe is that, looking back 3 years from now, think there's way more potential that the Wings picked up their new Yzerman & Lidstrom for the next 15 yrs in 1st Rd than you gave them credit for. Yzerman knows WTF he's doin as an executive (as does Chris Draper). Think you rated those picks way, way too low. But otherwise, loved this overall--very knowledgeable & informative player analysis. Watching tons of collegiate/Jr. league tape can be tedious, hats off man.

@alanwylie7207 He was great for frolunda u18, pretty good for frolunda U20, didn't get much playing time in the shl, then dominanted u18 WJC and international. Showed a ton of potential during the u18 play.

I thought Gulyayev to the avs was a fantastic pick. I was thinking of him (behind Perrault) as the second person I’d like the kraken to draft at 20. Great offense that we could USE for the powerplay and although we have guys like Ryker evans and Ty Nelson, I thought that he would still be great to have.

As a Red Wings fan I wasn’t a big fan of the Danielson pick but loved the Axel Sandin Pellika pick, he could be the next Erik Karlsson

I’m an Avs fan who middle fingers the Wings anytime I can because we have to hate each other, LOL. That being said, huge respect for Stevie Y and if he picked him over other guys, he’ll be really good regardless of how it looks now and who else was available. He got reamed for the Seider pick in 2019 and looks like a genius now.

Wouldn’t be a high draft pick selection for MTL without a weird reach. I prefer to believe that it was just a gentlemen agreement with the flyers fanbase for the Caufield pick they gave us. We are square now

Honestly, he's a great pick for the Habs imo I think he could very well be a 1st line D-man that could produce some solid offense. I think his floor is pretty high too I don't see him being any worse than a good second line option.

Reinbacher is a solid pick. Obviously they should had picked Michkov because he was, with Bedard, the best player of this draft. But I still think that David will be a top parring guy and he will be in the top 3 of the Calder trophy ranking

Michkov is a gamble, top 2,3,4 RD are difficult, rare, impossible to find. Huston, Reiner, Blackeye, etc They're building a/the 1970's style team that dominated from D out. (Sean Farrell, Owen Beck)

Given who was still on the board, I would have preferred the Kraken take Perrault or Musty. But I don't mind Sale. If he can put on 5-10 pounds and be more consistent, he would be exactly what they need in the system.

The overall stat line excluding 1 area favoured reinbacher over seider, he is an absolute monster of a defensive prospect but like seider he plays in an unpopular league for scouting. The habs stole that pick, and he'll be their 1/2 with hutson within 4 years.

@graviteh i love your content i love the energy you bring keep up the great work. I do hope your wrong about montreals pick. Was it the best player available definitely not. But hab fans have to realize with caufield farrell roy all under 5'11 they are defensive liabilitys as is adding michkov who whispers starting to leak has character issues work ethic issues and zero interest in playing defense habs werent going to pick him. Their biggest weakness is RHD defense and goaltender depth. Mailloux and hutson are good but they can not nor will they ever handle top line minutes. He fits the habs needs perfectly. Paired with guhle will form a #1 unit for years to come. Reinbacher plays tough minutes for his club against top players at 18 in a mens league. Analytic stand point experts say his currently projection is higher then jiricek right behind josi all time at the same age. I dont wanna dig up old memories but do u recall your predictions for the 2019 draft. I recall you saying "while i like seider at 6 i think its a stretch and one that detroit will soom come to regret." I think detroits okay with how he turned out #1 dman calder trophie winner norris candidate. And in the re-draft of 2019 button has him going 2nd. Im not saying reinbacher will be seider or better. Im just saying from the habs standpoint RHD with above average to elite potential if developed right are very very hard to come by and the habs landed 1. Now its up to him and the development team to do the rest. Its gonna be fun times ahead.

I’m new to hockey and had a question. With Matthew Wood, you said that his skating is horrible. Is that due to his genetics/body type, or is that a skill that he could improve?

Skating is one of the hardest things to develop for a player at this age. Typically you either have it or don't.

Sorry I disagree with your take on Reinbacher. He’s the best dman of the draft, and he fits all of our needs. Many teams called to try and get our pick to draft him, and Arizona was gonna take Reinbacher at 6. Easily an A grade. Coyotes on the other hand, yikes

Honestly I watch draft ranking videos and I like you Grav but I don't know how anybody can rate a draft before any of the players even play a single game. That's like saying you can see in the future or you know better than any of the GMs. Still can't wait to see how these guys pan out especially Reinbacher as a Habs fan.

@@notorioustbg no one knows knows what player will be good in the nhl before he plays in it (or doesn't). That's why some high draft picks can be busts sometimes.
