Film cameras and film, in general, are getting pretty expensive. So I decided to go over 5 - 35mm film cameras that I think are reliable, underrated, and inexpensive (aka cheap). They may sacrifice a little on ease of use or having the option to shoot fully automatic, but still provide you with reliable settings and the option to shoot with or without an in body light meter. Lastly, they give you the option to upgrade your body or lenses if you decide to stick with them down the road. I am not at all saying these are the only or the best options out there since that is very much opinion-based. Let me know your thoughts down below and also what other camera options you think fit the criteria.

Pentax K-1000 is my favorite "film camera" for 3 reasons. 1. My dad gave it to me for christmas when I was 13 and it started a lifelong hobby, passion, and job. 2. When I use it for street, it is the only camera I go out with that gets compliments from ppl in the general public. "Nice camera" makes me feel good. 3. I like the light meter on it. Having used the e damn thing for over 37 years I can shoot on the fly faster than any other camera I own save the Ricoh GRiii in snap focus mode. As always, love your channel.

My favorite film camera (at the moment) is the Zorki-4K. I absolute love Soviet-made rangefinders, I have a FED5 too and they're perfect for my style and I'm pretty amused with the results they can bring. I've grown up shooting with my family's compact Canon Prima BF-TWIN in the late 90's (and a few times with the AE-1), such good memories! ---- Love your channel, bro, keep up the good work!

My favourite film camera is the canon T90. Although now they are difficult to find working and with a delicate shutter, which is difficult to replace, they are superb cameras. They had the most advanced light meter of the time and gave birth to modern day SLR styling. Best bit is they have canon FD mount so lots of beautiful glass!

My favorite 35mm film camera is the Nikon F2 simply because it’s a brick and all mechanical. Love it. My favorite 120mm film camera is the Mamiya RB67. It’s a very fun camera to use, even though it was made for studio photography. No light meter, completely mechanical, and a whole lot of fun to take out for shooting. Would love to see some videos of photo walks you do so that we can see your whole creative process. Love what you’re doing man!

The fuji GW690ii is my favorite film camera. It is a medium-format, but the lens is outstanding and i love the big negative (although it does get costly). I also enjoy playing with the Rollei 35 S (35mm). It is a bit tricky, but lots of fun to use. The form factor is quite unique. Apart from my Zenit B's, I also have a Mamiya C33 Professional Twin Lens Reflex camera, with two removable lenses and a Porroflex Porroprism, which I use for portraiture and studio photography. Yes, 12 on 120 film is considerably more expensive than 35mm film, which can be bought in bulk - or could be in the past - and be used to reload cassettes. 120 film also costs more to process, especially when using Colour Film or Colour Slide, but the massive improvement in quality, especially when used for full-size portraits, is well worth the cost. Now more than 50 years old and still going strong, despite minor problems with the bellows, which I was able to repair very cheaply. Amazing what you can do with a little touch of Bicycle Tyre Rubber Solution.

Minolta SRT-202 is my 35 film's favorite camera; it's so tought, easy to use and also cheap, that I fallen in love with it at first sight, to even go and buy one at Ebay (and about this list, I will pick Pentax Spotmatic for her MASSIVE lens compatibility). But whe it comes about medium format, I will be there with a Lubitel 166b and Mamiya 645. For the next video I will be glad to se more comparation of films, not edited, as raw. And also advices to ones that wants to develop their own film at home. Nice video and I am happy that KZfaq have recomended your channel. You got a new suscriptor!

Hey Graham! Thank you for making this video, I really enjoyed your 35mm rangefinder budget video about 4 months back and was hoping you'd make another for SLR's or just 35mm in general. This was a pleasant surprise. I would love to see a video specifically of you making pictures without using a light meter, as I feel many film photographers tend to rely on their meter rather than on the eye. I started out shooting without a light meter and I felt it contributed positively to my learning curve. It would be nice to hear your thoughts on that topic. I would also enjoy hearing your thoughts on certain film stocks, similar to how you review, recommend and compare film cameras. For beginners just getting started, it might be nice for them to have an insight into the characteristics of some common/budget film stocks. My favourite film camera is the Minolta SRT 100. It was my first film camera and so holds special meaning for me. However I also enjoy some of the limitations (1/500 SS) of the SRT 100 as it pushes oneself to consider capturing scenes from different angles or perspectives, with the limited resources at hand.

@@graham_white yeah😂 It took a while for me to find out because all my pictures were coming out exposed like if everything was perfect, but some would come out soft and not as sharp. My favorite Medium format is the Bronica ETR, it’s my first medium format and it’s taking forever tomaster but it’s so much fun to shoot. Would love to see more point and shoot content!! Love from South Korea!

Don't know what you read about the Russian Zenit cameras, but I bought my first Zenit B - that's the one without the built-in Light Meter - with Helios F2 58mm lens, in 1970. Two years later, I bought another Zenit B and a Jupiter F4 135mm Lens, so that I could have Black & White film in one camera and Colour in the other ; preferably Colour Slide. Despite heavy use and one of the cameras being dropped several hundred feet down the side of Snowdon in North Wales - in it's ever-ready case - without any damage, they are both still in perfect working order, although one had a replacement 'Focal Plane Shutter Blind' installed about 25 years ago. Yes, having to manually close down the Iris before taking the shot took a bit of getting use to, but I soon found that I could do so using the Little Finger of my Left hand, to both close and open it. Holding the camera in my Right hand, all other functions were performed with my Left hand, except for cocking the shutter after each shot. I could rattle of 20 frames of Sport pictures in less that a minute, with everything in focus. Using a Test Target, I found that the edge-to-edge definition of the 58mm Helios lens, was the equivalent of the Pentax Spotmatic lens, but with marginally less Colour Definition on Colour film. Some years ago, I was offered a large sum of money by someone, but wasn't willing to sell them. I'm now 73 year-old Pensioner and will keep using them, just as long as I can buy film to fill them. Zenit B... Great cameras and probably the best Technology investment I ever made. If you've never used one, don't knock it.

Thanks for the input. I have one and do use it. as much as I enjoy them they are clunky and has several broken features. I also read in a lot of forums and groups of issues and build quality. Its fairly well known cameras built in the USSR suffered from poor quality control. Not saying there aren't exceptions or that there aren't a lot out there that are holding up well. I do really enjoy the camera and yes the lens can produce great results rivaling more popular lenses. All Im saying is your more likely to get a Zenit or Helios with an issue than something like a Pentax spotmatic or takumar lens.

The Canon New F1 is my favourite film camera. Only ever had 2 cameras and have shot 5 (I think). My first camera was a Canon EOS 300V that belonged to my dad and which I found in the attic after noticing our old family photos were shot on film. A few months ago I bought the F1 and have absolutely loved it so far.

Hey Graham, really enjoyed the vid! Love your choise of low cost cameras. It's good seeing someone who's not a snob with brands!! (*Cough cough* Leica) My favourite film camera is a Pentax KX. Same chassis as a spotmatic and k1000 it's got mirror lock up, self timer and TTL with a shutter speed needle match light meter!! Litterly all you ever need. Fully mechanical and built like a tank. They dont seem to be as popular as the affermentioned models which confused me but a good bargin I would suggest! Oh and they don't use a mercury battery so you can still easily get one for the meter! Keep up the good work 👊👊

My favorite film camera is a Fujica AZ. It uses the M42 lens mount and it gives me several modes to use. It uses a mechanical shutter and I have used it for quite some time. However it will soon need light seals. I hope you will test out one of these someday and am interested in what you think about it. Thanks and keep making videos, I enjoy your insight on photography and equipment. Mike Gardner

My favourite is surprisingly the Pentax auto 110. It’s so small and unnoticeable that it results in spontaneous pictures :) The 110 negatives aren’t great, however the memory is what counts. Love to see more of the useful overlays. I loved them in the older videos, such as the one on manual focussing. I do understand the would take a lot of time to edit, but are often very useful when explaining things for us visual learners :) thank you for being informative and honest!

those are rad. I agree if its for memories who cares, it's perfect if it works for you. for other things it is beneficial having the larger negative. Ah the old overlays. The Minolta SRT-202 is my favourite - and only - film camera. Absolutely love its weight (its so heavy) and the mirror slap. I'm kinda blind in one eye so the split viewfinder to focus (like a rangefinder) really helps too. I'm looking to get into medium format but the cameras are pretty expensive which is hard when I'm a student. Might have to look at some cheap-ish TLRs. Absolutely love when you show the viewfinder, that to me is the biggest make or break for a camera.
