Agreed. The fact that they are doing things means they care about the game. I’m happy for that. No decision will make everyone happy.

That is not really addressing the issue, stores are more likely to open the case and put boxes on their shelves, those boxes are worth less than they would be as a sealed case. Even if it is "only for a month" what does it tell the stores? Open for singles so people can players can buy playsets for a csr? That doesn't make sense. @@SolarGamesllc

I believe they ship as much product as stores ask for, so I'd suggest bugging your local stores to get some orders in. Hope it all works out!

Agree 100%! A move like this would have been fine for an established game but not for one that is getting out of the gate. The folks that tend to see this as a win are most likely speculators, collectors or people that found themselves neck deep with boxes at the beginning of release. Really wish the devs will also address the market consequences of this impromptu promotion.

If boxes collapse to where stores make $0 or lose money on each box, they have no incentive to stock the game or engage in organized play. After shipping and fees, boxes are currently a loss if sold on TCGplayer at market rate.

The devs have full control over the supply though. All the redeemed cards will be used as prizes at the dev’s discretion. That means if any one single becomes too expensive, they just release a bunch of that card back into the market via a super low barrier online promotion.

Market is also in flux right now. It does cause a problem in a short term for players but I’d argue if you are really into the game you already have the cards anyways. This pushes to equalize the EV to the actual cost of the booster boxes. Long term this won’t matter at all. Redemptions aren’t forever and the devs can release key cards back into the population at a later time as needed.

The cynical person in me is wondering what’s preventing the devs from selling the cards themselves for profit via third party channels. I also do not think they would release expensive and needed cards after the damage is done. Why would they ? They would just say: “Break more boxes”. Think of all the overpriced DOA staples right now.

New players can buy the booster boxes... its not that hard to get full playsets.. this is a really good move by the devs.

@@Esiul There's nothing to stop them other than it would ruin their reputation and having super high singles prices would actually hinder the game from growing which honestly wouldn't be worth it. On the other hand when the contents of a of cracking a box was often literally 10 dollars on tcg player nobody is gonna crack any boxes and stores don't want anything to do with it. I honestly couldn't recommend new players buy ftc product from the stores running events around me until now and when they did and they found out the value at the time it was like a pretty negative experience. Now the product at stores can move and stores aren't against stocking products and running events which right now is critical for the game to survive
