For some reason I absolutely love the hour hand on this, it's like a cathedral hand on steroids! It's great that GS used titanium on this especially given the bigger proportions as a diver. Great video as always bro!

Hi EW, thanks for the quick review ! I haven't worn a titanium watch, but I hear they're incredibly light and with a diver of this size it must be a welcome change. I have an older 44mm Hamilton chronograph and on it's original bracelet and it's a BEAST ! So I usually wear it on a alligator strap. I too don't mind a bigger watch, ( and especially one that looks like this one . ) Thanks for sharing, stay well ❤

The sparkle on markers are mesmerising, with the pitched black background. The brush finish on the hands are so distinct and even. You can see the lines clearly. I wear mine on a Hirsh rubber strap. Makes the watch looks way nicer. I think the spring drive is a marvel. I have 5. I have the Peacock with 45gs case like yours. I have the sbgh047 with the iwate dial exactly like yours. Hi EB, GREAT REVIEW! Especially when you talk about the bezel and turn it for us to hear. Most people are talking while they are turning the bezel and we can't hear anything. So by you not talking during that function check is very appreciated! I am debating between the titanium model vs. SS model. What I really like is the gold GS logo. It accents well against the black dial and is unique. I have a titanium watch in my collection, and it feels ultra light, almost "cheap" like. That's the only reason I have not pulled the trigger on titanium yet.

Great review for a great watch ! Well done EW, to only for an excellent pick but also for presenting it. I bought my second GS, and I have you to blame ! After watching this review I might sell the high beat. This model, despite that it's not a 36k beats is far more refined. The high beat, it's lugs are nearly identical to the Samurai which is under $600....and to be honest I don't like. I bought the watch without paying much attention and was a bit off as soon as I unboxed it, that was last night... The bright side, it's a truly upgraded Seiko from all aspects, and bracelet/clasp (you remember my views) are great and you really get what you're paying for. Merry Xmas EW, to you and all your loved ones:)

I happened to be wearing an SBGA229, the stainless steel iteration of this diver, when I watched your video. When I first received this watch from the GS AD on approval, I initially returned it because I thought it was too thick and I had reservations about the GS stamped clasp in contrast to the milled clasp on my Rolex Yacht Master. Boy was I wrong. This watch is my favorite diver for everyday wear over a Ploprof 1200M and a Panerai. I have a bigger wrist so I did not have your fitting problem. The construction and finishing are superb. The extra weight of the stainless steel version is unnoticeable. The bracelet is very well made and comfortable but I have also worn the watch satisfactorily on a black and gray striped NATO and a black natural rubber Hirsch Urbane band. The clasp is secure and is a nonissue for me. The spring drive movement and the sweep of the seconds hand are a joy. I find it hard to take off this watch.
@engineer_wannabe3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the swing arm comfort problem would not be a problem if I had a slightly larger wrist but I love wearing it on a Hirsch Carbon strap. Congrats on your watch and I’m really glad that you enjoy it so much!

Good review, appreciate the heads up on the bracelet. Although that wouldn't be a deal killer for me. I tend to take the bracelet off immediately and store it (so it's unused when time, if ever, for resale) and swap in complimentary nato straps. I'm thinking a black, gold, and grey bond would look excellent........

Nice review, appreciate the different angles and showing it’s wearability. I tried GS and my problem is that I don’t like big watches, and that’s all they seemingly produce, even their dress pieces look gargantuan at 39mm, it’s just the way they design their cases. All their sport watches are 44mm and UP, that’s wild. I’d like to get a spring drive, sports watch at some point when they go to 42 or under. In the meantime I have a Pelagos as my next potential purchase.
@engineer_wannabe3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks man, yeah I hear you, their watches tend to be too big. But they are listening. They released a 40mm spring drive GMT this year that wears really well. There is a rumour circulating that a 40mm diver will come next year. My fingers are crossed for that 😄
@vgcamara2 жыл бұрын
not sure what you consider sport but their entry level spring drive models come in at 39mm and they're great. check out the sbga285. I have 16.5 cm wrists and my snowflake wears really well. I've also tried this diver on and even though it's 44mm it still fit me well. I got my dad a Pelagos and even though it's smaller than this GS, the lugs don't have as much slope so there's a gap between the watch and my wrist, wearing 'worse' than the GS. I would suggest trying them on in the metal if you have the chance. this being titanium is only 137gr so it's really light

Bah!! You have a GS ... Nice...the second hand smoothness is almost hypnotic ;-) I would like a smoewhat 'military' GS, as I'm not at all fond of 'Divers', but would like the quality of the GS in a 'practical' Titanium 'Flieger-ish' style... I have a superb Japan-only Citizen Titanium, 10 seconds per year calibre, perpetual calendar (which needs a full page of instructions to set, but covers leap years until 2400, I think :-) ); I love Titan to wear, but I seldom want to wear a 'dress' watch that is unreadable in low light, no lume, but want something a bit more subtle than a diver ;-) Thx for letting us see this GS.

Do you think the MM300 looks smaller than this model? Similar dimensions on paper right?
@engineer_wannabe3 жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one. It’s pretty close but I’d say the MM300 wears bigger because of its thickness and shape. The Monoblock case does not melt onto the wrist like this GS’s case does
@praetor473 жыл бұрын
@@engineer_wannabe i'd say the MM300 wears significantly smaller because it's nowhere near the actual stated 44mm (that's just the case, which you don't really "see"), as the bezel and dial are smaller (in the ballpark of standard 40mm divers). it's the main reason why i got it over the GS diver(s) :) (that, and the service time and costs of spring drive movements. i really don't wanna deal with that) the GS does wear more comfortably, though, because it's much lighter and sits flatter/more stable (weight/comfort is MM300s biggest negative, by far)

I don’t think the clasp criticism is fair I have this watch and a prospex LX with pretty much the same clasp and it’s fantastic. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and it fits more comfortable than my Rolex submariner. Please consider not everyone has very small wrists and your discomfort would be in the minority. Grand Seiko wouldn’t expect a guy with a 6 inch wrist buys a 44mm dive watch…..

@engineer_wannabe3 жыл бұрын
Ah I see, Yeah I can see how the hands and dial are more pleasing to the eye 🙂 On the SNR033 I had for a few days, the dial and case were stunning. But the clasp was a hot mess. No half links and a really tiny on the fly microadjust. (I know LX diver is way better in this regard 🙂) Other than that, it wore very top heavy and was very thick without disguising the thickness too well. I was so disappointed with it that I didn’t even review it. Such a beautiful watch though. The finishing was on point except for a bit of “orange peel” on the polished surfaces The GS diver is really comfortable to wear and does not feel as thick (though it pretty much is) 😄

@@leyay7540 I read this about the 9RA5 in the new dive watch: 'But Grand Seiko engineers also re-positioned crown and winding stem while re-orienting the movement’s ‘Magic Lever’ mech without compromising its winding efficiency, resulting in a slimmer overall movement , opening up plenty of avenues for interesting watch design for future products. That suggests the 9RA5 in part became slimmer due to the fact they could move the stem to the crown and crown to the 4 o clock position which means it needs to be at 4 o clock for all watches with the 9RA5 becse that's how the 9RA5 is designed....oh well, will see soon enough I guess.
@jonathansaraco3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure Grand Seiko takes a lot of pride in being so vertically integrated and manufacturing a large majority of the parts that go into their watch, but they need to outsource their bracelets. GS clasps are either way too minimal so you don't have fine adjustment, or they're monstrously large, making them uncomfortable. In addition, GS has by far the worst on the fly adjustment mechanism. Unless you never use it, you'll have unsightly racheting marks exposed on your wrist. It's very industrial and I can appreciate that, but this is a luxury watch more so than it is a tool, and so it is unacceptable in my opinion. How GS makes industry leading dials, hands, and cases yet absolutely bungles their bracelets, I have no idea. On a more positive note, this video was about the diver, but I couldn't keep my eyes off your SBGJ201 when it was in the video. The 203 is the closest thing I have to a grail watch. I hope I can own it one day!
@engineer_wannabe3 жыл бұрын
Yeah this isn’t a pretty clasp that’s for sure and I have a feeling it isn’t meant to be used as a day to day, on the fly adjustment since they have micro adjust holes as well.
