Situated in the graveyard on the southside of the church are two medieval graveslabs. The trapezoidal slab, pictured above, has a cross in relief, the ends of the cross head bear fleur-des-lys. A barely visible inscription, added at a later date, commemorates a George Walsh d.1757. The second graveslab is over 2 metres in length and bears an incised cross with a stepped base and a double ring at the head, with a diamond shape in the centre,

Beautiful church ruins and graveyard. Loved seeing those old headstones from the 1700's. I have one near me from the 1700's. The church itself was burned down the British, during the Revolutionary War. The basement area was part of the "Underground Railroad" during the 1860's.

What an amazing video. Such a beautiful church and altar. I'm crazy but when you said they remove the roof after being abandoned and I have always noticed the roofs gone in your and Sue's videos so when you said that I am so happy to learn something new😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊. Thanx SO much GV. You know I have seen stones , not many where a spouse waits 40,50,60 years after their loss to join them. I think back in the day the Irish valued their vows and their love was one time. I saw a stone here in America where a wife waited 82 years! My husband was my soulmates but we had 45 years. A fabulous video❤😊❤😊

Great video sir. The white substance on the marker was probably flour. As you saw the flour highlites the carving. It doesn’t hurt the stone and will wash away in the rain. You take a bag or canister of flour and apply it to stone with a paint type brush. Give it a try, it will work well. Georgia USA. Keep up the good work.

Great video. Thanks. I believe that the roof is often removed for tax reasons. The building then becomes a ruin, not a habitable building. Also, practically, the roof of a disused building can become a hazard if not maintained. Many country houses had their roofs removed when the owners couldn’t afford the upkeep, and to avoid death duties. It’s a shame, but I suppose that practicality usually wins out against sentiment. Best wishes.

When graveyards are on a hill or incline, you will find a lot of headstones leaning forwards. This is caused by a process called creeping earth, and can be better seen by a build up earth, behind table tombs or similar. In some cases, depending on the quality of the earth, the interred have been found 5/6ft further down the incline. When headstones are leaning side to side, it is normally caused by subsidence.
