The Inspire FT2 has been a legend in the home gym equipment game for decades. Setting the bar for what a multipurpose piece of equipment could do. But when the FT2 first launched compared to today, the home gym world is a much different place. So the question is, is it still a valid option for a home gym?
We snagged our Inspire FT2 back in late 2022. and have put it through the tests to share with you the pros and cons so you can decide if this is the next addition for your home gym, or not.
The Inspire FT2 has a TON of moving parts, with multiple dual cable pulley options, a built in smith machine, integrated pull-up bar, bench and leg developer that connect in, and more. It still is the only option on the market that I know of that does all of this.

I bought this second hand well under half price just last week. Looks and acts brand new. So now here i am looking at reviews lol. Im happy enough with it over all.

Honestly at half the retail price, you crushed it. You aren't likely to find anything close to this in that budget. That's about what we paid and I've been very happy overall

I think one thing you could try out to replace the bench is the body solid GLEG. It’s the same concept as the inspire but has a cam on it. That should make it feel a little bit better. You’d have to rig your two low pulleys to a single cable to work

Nobody has a bench leg developer ? Force usa just dropped the c 10 with that new bench that does so much 🔥

Wow!!! Just watched the teaser video. The leg press and hack squat style machine set up is bonkers.

11:46 You’re not the first to hook this up the wrong way. When doubling the smith machine resistance, don’t use the hook. Instead, keep pulling the cable and hook the black pin, the one that the small end of that hook is connected to, and slot that black pin over the smith machine hook. This is how Inspire does it. This also removes any slack in the system. I hope this makes sense.

I'll take a look. Honestly I probably did it wrong because I never use the Smith. Starting in the bottom position just isn't conducive for me to get what I want out of it.

These shrouds make it quieter compared to metal shrouds that become like a wind chime when weight stack lands hard.

You know what, I hadn't thought about that, but that makes perfect sense. Great note!

For leg extensions, I like putting the extra weight plate on the leg attachment - about 25 pounds makes the resistance stack more consistent. You can put even more weight on the attachment if you want it to be more like bands or accomodating resistance
@GrayMatterLifting

Yeah I've toyed with that too. A nice mix of the two.

Agree 100% with the smith machine. Unfortunately, they’ve got smith machine integrated with weight stacks design patented so we’re unlikely to see competition in that space as cool as it would be

All they need is the typical hooks that a normal smith has, and we are like 99% there

Great review, I agree with your review. I'd love something similar with a more premium quality feel to it. Is there any way to get the custom attachments that you have to be able to combine both pulleys at the same time at the top and at the bottom ? i use budget crap to do so but I'd love a better and more solid option. thanks !

You bet. Reach out to David at Gorilla Strength USA, and tell him what you want, he should be able to make it.

Is it possible for the leg extension bench to put additional plates on the weight horn alongside using the cable? Theoretically would increase the weight > 160lb without a gym pin, albeit not all the weight would have equal resistance for leg extension/curl
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 21 күн бұрын
Yes it can. I run into some space constraints with that approach, but it is possible.

I'm really gravitating towards the Beyond Power setup, or the Rogue functional trainer add-on.

Are you totally comfortable with loading up the stacks with the gympins? I've heard horror stories of the guide rods getting damaged from overuse in one direction.
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 25 күн бұрын
Couple thoughts in my head... 1) the guide rods and cables and system are meant to have the additional 50lb add ons. So that's a 45lb plate more or less. So I'm only adding an additional 45 or so beyond that. While I'm not excited about it, it's a couple of sets per week total. I think if you had a pretty low quality all in one, you'd have to consider that. Think about how much extra you are adding. Right now, I'm in the comfortable spot. If I moved to 3+ plates I'd start to get real concerned
@abu8492
@abu8492 24 күн бұрын
@@GrayMatterLiftingthe 50lb additional weight is centered though so that would be fine. The worry with the gym pin is not the cable snapping but more so damage to the guide rods as you have uneven weight distribution being applied. The bushing on the rod is tilted forward as the weight from the gympin is not directly above the stacks. I've heard peoples chrome rods shaving off from the back due to using just a few additional lbs on the gympins
@GrayMatterLifting
@GrayMatterLifting 24 күн бұрын
@@abu8492 yep, I gotcha. I will say that I have not seen any issues. There aren't any metal shavings, I don't hear grinding or clicking or anything when using them, I'm not seeing them pull weird... I think this is going to be a... You gotta go with what YOU are comfortable with on your own equipment. So far I've been good. If that changes I will be sure to share it. I know that some "home gym" machines are pretty loose. The cables aren't super tight, the guide rods are kind of free floating, and that would be one where I'd say NO GO. In my marketplace days I handled a few of those. The Inspire FT2 seems to be tight fitting, and smooth enough, that we aren't pulling too hard off axis and causing issues.

At this point I totally agree. It works, it's nice, but the pricing is not in line with the advancements in the industry.
