Hey Martin...that lock-n-lube is on my Christmas list !! I grease much more frequently than 50 hours. I have a number of heavy equipment operators in my family and two buddies that are hvy equip mechanics. They grease daily under normal use and on heavy use, which is almost daily, they grease again at lunch. Our much smaller equipment is not subjected to quite the same abuse as the big stuff but I still hit 'em at 10 to 15 hrs. Yeah, I'm probably wasting a bit of grease but I feel better. Its kinda like that second bowl of ice cream...I just can't help myself !! Good reminder though sir... One of these days, I should show you my pneumatic grease set up with a 30 gallon barrell....LOL You'd be in hog heaven !!
@DIYMyWay

Merry Christmas, Wendell! I hope Santa brings you one! They are wonderful. I grease my tractor frame every 50 hours per the manual, but I grease my FEL and backhoe every 10 hours per the manual. I’m sure I waste grease because I squirt it in until I see fresh grease seeping out. Grease is cheap. Equipment repairs often aren’t! Sounds like you have a good greasing system. I am not at all surprised. LOL. Thanks for watching!

Off topic - I love all of those lights that you have attached to your ROPS but what I'm really interested in is the 2 tool boxes. Should the steering be greased at the 10 hour or 50 hour maintenance? Thanks for a well done video.
@DIYMyWay

My understanding is that the tractor itself gets greased every 50 hours and attachments like front end loaders and backhoes get greased every 10 hours. Of course, it won’t hurt to grease more often if you prefer. Thanks for watching!

Sorry I'm a tractor newbie... you said (as it says in the manual) to use NLGI 2 or NLGI 1 grease... what is the deciding factor? is one better than the other? also... what pressure is required to grease a kubota BX tractor... I see that grease guns are rated at various pressures...
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom! Nothin’ wrong with being a “tractor newbie”. I’ve had my L3901 for about 2.5 years so I still consider myself a newbie in many ways. When I was deciding on a grease, I searched sites like TractorByNet to see what seasoned tractor owners used. One grease that kept coming up as a good one was Lucas “Red N Tacky”, which I think is an NLGI-2 grease. It is a heavy duty grease for heavy equipment. I really like it because when I’m greasing, it is easy to see when the new red grease pushes out the old blackened grease. That way I know I have squirted enough grease in a zerk. As for pressure, I just have a pistol grip hand-operated grease gun that works just fine. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@jackrothaus2816
@jackrothaus2816 3 жыл бұрын
You didn’t mention the loader. Do you use the same grease in the loader? The manual recommends high quality grease designating extreme pressure and containing molybdenum disulfide. If you don’t use the same grease, do you keep two grease guns one for each grease type?

That doesn’t sound good. Do you get any back pressure on the grease gun or does it go in easily? On mine the grease pumps in easily and grease starts coming out the breather port fairly quickly.
