I know everything he said is meant as a joke, but I've been living outside of Greece for nearly a decade now and I've always had a chip on my shoulder due to this harmful stereotype that Greeks are lazy. We're the Mexicans of Europe. It cuts deep and I can't easily laugh about it. It especially angers me because most of the time it comes from snobby north Europeans with the cushiest jobs and lives. Yeah, go work in Greece for ten hours a day to get 650 euros with a 300 Euro rent and see if you like it, princess.

bebetigre12, prejustice and stereotypes don't seem to care for facts 😕 What is true so is that greeks (in Greece) are not so efficient. They are not able to, because they have to work 10 times harder to achieve the same thing, and that's because of the bad infrastructure and inefficient state offices in the country.😒 Everywhere else in the world greeks are successful...

I am Italian and I love Greece. You don't have to tease your roots, they are the best things you have. Greece and Italy have built almost all of our Western world. The Anglo-Saxons only wrapped it in plastic. It has never happened to me to find restaurants with fake menus and lazy waiters in Greece. They simply let you enjoy dinner without bothering you every moment. In the same way, in Milan there is no one who sits like that to drink a coffee. In Milan, everyone is always in a rush and produces more money in that city than in all of Bavaria. But not even in the most remote villages of southern Italy, not even on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of August, have I ever seen someone sitting like that drinking coffee. It's okay to use stereotypes, but at least make sure you use the right ones !!

It all comes down to preference. What I actually love and value about Greece and Italy is how real it is. Would rather not have the “service”, but create a friendship for life and build a relationship with the “waiter” and the people who are supposed to “serve”. As a Greek Australian living in Greece and the United States for a decade, I must say I haven’t missed Australia at all. Australia is no doubt a great economic country and I’m proud to have been born there. For those who enjoy systems and structures australia is golden ! I prefer to be young and free though 😉

In the States, customer service in restaurants is based on tips, which obviously means that the waiters are paid based on their service to the customers. However, that also means that in most places, the goal is to get the people in and out of the place as quickly as possible in order to serve as many potential customers as possible. So, while you do get the waiter asking you a million times do you need anything, etc..the ultimate goal is to get a big tip and then get you out. In Italy, the waiters are paid a salary and do not depend on tips, thus they allow customers to sit back and enjoy their meals without running over to the table asking you if you need this or that and then attempt to get you out. I guess Locascio doesn't realize this and just likes to be waited on.

I understand that many things he says are for the purpose of the stand up comedy performance and in some extend they are funny indeed. HOWEVER. You can be funny without perpetuating stereotypes and generalisations of an entire population. According to the World Economic Forum with data from Eurostat 02/2018, Greeks have the longest working weeks with 42.3 hrs/week. And not only that, if you haven't realised the situation from your trips in Greece, they are seriously underpaid. The middle class that you so easily make fun of and describe as the laziest has been practically destroyed from the constant reduction of salaries and the unbearable taxes. And I can personally testify for that since I belong to one of the few middle class families still standing. And I get it, of course there is a huge, continuous problem with a big percentage of the public sector of the country but that doesnt mean that everyone's lazy. And it's SO FRUSTRATING when they keep telling you you're lazy or a thief just because SOME OTHER PEOPLE ARE.

If people of Milan have a defect this is the exact opposite of being lazy... they run, work a lot, too much, missing the sense itself of what they are doing... you better take a plane and visit the real place.

As a sicilian I've never heard of the "Greeks are lazy" stereotype. I don't think laziness is the first thing that comes to people's mind when thinking about Greece. When It comes to what He said about Italians, at this point I'm not even offended anymore cause Northern Italians call us lazy all the time and they're not comedians. They say that we're lazy to offend us. At least He's a comedian...

"I'll tell ya" thing, albeit not so pronounced although I've found it's more about showing enthusiasm to whatever emotion the situation calls for. In a way like saying "Oh My God" and how it can be good or bad depending on if you're happy or not.

Thanks KZfaq algorithm! Fabrizio seems a lot like the guy I work with... Funny, lovely, clever, but also totally unworthy for his job somedays, at the point you wanna murder him because sometimes he makes you work twice harder. The fact is: I'm Italian (as you might have understood) from Cremona and, despite the irony, you've described the mentality in a pretty true way and that was fuckin hilarious to me man. But still, sometimes I'm more proud of our mindset over the anglo/american... Which is: man, take your time and take it easy, we're all friends 😎

Picture this; Thailand, 2017. 3 backpackers, a Turk, a Greek and a German are trying to get from one town to another, so they take the latest bus. As they arrived a little early-but not too much, they put their stuff in the bus and do some snack shopping. The Turk and the Greek do their shopping fast and arrive at the bus conveniently, but the German...arrives at last minute-in fact we were a little worried that she'd miss the bus while we waited. So much for the punctuality stereotypes.

I don't know why but the people who went in Australia for a better life almost hate their origins .I think that they wanted to fill better for themselves! Especially in Australia there are so many Greeks but if you ask them they say that Greeks who live in Greece are lazy! Why is that? And also if someone wants to be a comedian should have something new to say ,not something that it's been said so many times! It's a pity!
@mgkd2
@mgkd2 4 жыл бұрын
They don't hate their origins but when you move to another country, you get use to the culture in that country. In Australia, customer service is very efficient and yes, it does make many other cultures look lazy in comparison but then we envy their work-life balance, family values and carefree approach. Pros and cons. I was born in europe, live in Australia and travelled through most of the world, I understand exactly what he's talking about.

Did you really went to Milan? I can take a joke about my country, but when it's funny. The one about the dog, fun joke, the others about Greece, not so. How about making jokes about things that are funny and true instead of cashing for cheap laughs with false stereotypes.

@@was023 then why not use other Italian stereotypes? We have plenty in our country and some that are "truish" and funny (like how in Genova or in Biella people are very stingy). Or how our trains NEVER FUCKING WORK. If he made a joke about being in Milan's station for hours and hours because the train got lost on the road of life, I would have laughed, but people in Milan are always busy and will literally stamp on your body (another stereotype) to get where they want to (Milan is as scary as it's beautiful). The point is that so many comedians don't work for their jokes and more than offended I'm tired of hearing the same jokes over and over without anything to sustain them.

@@was023 The problem with a small written test is that it's hard to convey emotion XD so keep in mind that I'm not angry at this comedian, I work in an artistic field with lot of deadlines myself so I get what your're saying, but I've watched a couple of his sketches and they all got this same brand of humor so I still think that he should have researched more and it would have been funnier. I watch a lot of comedy sketches and there are plenty around about Italy that are hilarious (even when made by foreign comedians) because there is substance. I just want to add that having foreign grandparents don't make a person an expert of said foreign country (but the sketch by this comedian about his grandparents was funny because it was about a truish personal experience, not only a routine).

I also invite you to work our 10hour shifts in the Greek private sector, and once you come back home from an exhausting day, have some random australian guy (that is "greek-italian" 'cause that's hot) half the globe away telling you "ah..greek people are lazy. Greek waiters are super fast and super wffucient, greek restaurants have huge menus and waiters traditionally knew them by heart and also remwmbered the orders my heart knay times and they were fast both cleaning plates making tables and taking orders and delovering non stop and also with very bad pay many times. Greek waiters are super efficient and greek menus have everything except if finished because wveything is fresh and could have gone within the day of there was greay demand but there many other things except for the imeras part which is the day part woth every day having different things. He gor confused by wrong stereotypes here which can be true for some greek workers in certain areas but definitely not waiters

The problem is that in this case, is that the script lacked essence in its core. He was like an uncle in a family table who eagerly tries to convince you that his story is funny, when it clearly is not. At least this is my opinion!!
