Green Bay, coming off of a thrilling 21-16 win in the Wild Card against Philadelphia a week earlier, march into the Georgia Dome to take on the #1 seed Atlanta Falcons. The Packers, behind the best performance of Aaron Rodgers' career, throttle the Falcons 48-21 and move on to the NFC Championship, where an old rival waits in the wings.

Aaron Rodgers has had many great games in his career, but this was the game that stood out in my opinion. 31-36 passing for over 350 yards, 3 TDs, one rushing, and no picks against the #1 seeded Falcons in the Georgia Dome where they rarely lose. This performance I think elevated him to a whole new level that we are seeing today.

Yes, it's one of his finest hours. The game against Chicago the next week was a joke. He didn't play all that well, Chicago was just bad. The Super Bowl is his #1 performance but the Atlanta game is #2. They went in there with almost no one but Green Bay homers giving them a chance to win.

To this day I still think this is Rodgers' best game of his career. You go into Atlanta, the #1 seed, as a #6 wildcard and he throws for 31/36 300+ yards and 3 TD. Only 5 misses, I mean damn.... And look at some of the lasers he threw for completions in this game. Just my opinion.

The pick-six utterly changed the complexion of this game. Had the Falcons scored a field goal to end the half, they are only down by 4. Even if Green Bay scores a touchdown to start the second half, the game is not out of reach, and the Falcons can remain balanced offensively. Instead, the Falcons are suddenly down 3 touchdowns by the next time they have the ball, and they have no choice but to abandon their running game, which had been a problem for the Packers early.

As it often does, fate in sports was as much about the matchups as the actual talent of certain teams. Packers drawing the Eagles, Falcons, and Bears...there's a reason Rodgers hasn't been back. He's had to play teams like Seattle or San Francisco that had more complete teams. All three of these teams were missing components and they had enough to take advantage.

That pick six completely changed the game. The Falcons were within field goal range. They were about to narrow it to a 4-point game. Then, the pick is thrown, and by the time they got the ball again, they were down 21 points. What made the Falcons so good that year was how incredibly balanced their offense was. Suddenly, their running game was completely neutralized, and the Packers ferocious pass rushers could pin their ears back.

Today's the 10th anniversary of this game. Had someone said the final score would be 48-21 without naming the winner, a majority probably would've said the Falcons despite them being a slight favorite. This remains the biggest margin of victory for a 6 seed beating a 1 seed.

This game is another example why it doesn’t matter if Rodgers gets another Ring or not. He’s already a NFL HOF QB.

Never forget when Packers radio compared this blowout to General William Sherman actually torching the city of Atlanta during the Civil War.
