With all due respect, do you seriously think that the morons who wrote something as unimaginably stupid as this scene have EVER actually used a caulk gun in real life? You know damn well what kind of person wrote a script like that and you also know that those kinds of people couldn't do manual labor if their life depended on it. The idea of them doing home improvement work and using a caulk gun is laughable. A not-insignificant percentage of these people end up having to buy new cars at 60,000 miles because they had absolutely no idea that you have to change the oil in an ICE vehicle, so they drove their car around on the original oil for the last ten years until it turned to tar and grenaded the engine.

well, the caulking will be moved swiftly to places the smallest blood vessels, where, being thicker than blood, it will get stuck. I question the assumption that fresh caulking will hold back the pressure generated by the human heart. It's not that quick to cure even in dry settings, never mind being immersed in blood. I am also concerned that if the blood vessel is not completely blocked then the patient probably has clumps of caulk being washed off the main mass into the blood stream. I don't know what that'll do but it cannot be good to have lumps of silicone in your blood.

Not a doctor but I can tell you what would happen. A loose mass in your bloodstream will eventually get stuck in a smaller blood vessel. I'll assume that his carotid artery got injured. In this case it could end up flowing towards the brain and cut off blood supply, causing a stroke. If it ended up in a vein instead, it could also flow towards his heart and lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. Though the blood they showed looked more like he injured a medium sized vein. Ah I assumed it was the jugular because if it were the carotid blood would be spurting out pulsatile and far; this wound, though bleeding fast, is oozing steadily like a large venous bleed would. In real life, true story, read it first in my dad's medical magazine (Medical Economics, I think). Guy masturbated in the shop against a belt during lunch break, got a bit too distracted and leaned in. Resultant trauma had him scrambling for the ceil tile stapler, and he closed the wound at great cost in pain. Finally went to the ER with a horrible infection, refused to allow a female in the room, and told his story to the male doctor. Dropped his pants to reveal as ugly a mess as anyone ever saw and was whisked into surgery. For complete details from the doctor himself.... www.snopes.com/fact-check/suture-self/

Hey, wouldnt it be great if we had one of these shows that starts with characters doing something stupid like this, only to get fired and have some people who ACTUALLY know what they are doing brought in? I mean, I'd say that real(ish) medical procedures and drama would be more than sufficent to create an interesting show. Maybe amp them up a bit, but not...this.

I saw one (horrible) paramedic show where in the first episode the medic does open heart massage on a patient (who of course lives because of it). In that episode the person at least got told off by their supervisor, but I can tell you in real life a couple things would have gone differently: 1) The patient would not have survived because of it, possibly despite it, but not because of it. 2) The practitioner wouldn't have just been told off, they would have had their license suspended, their job terminated, and have been at high risk for jail time.

@Green__one2 жыл бұрын
That would have been a concern had they been spreading it on the surface, but she has the tip right inside the hole and is injecting it straight into the veins. It still won't likely plug that hole. But it WILL plug a whole bunch of smaller blood vessels in important organs.

Once again I have to ask why these shows feel the need to have some form of zany plot at an attempt to make it more interesting, while the reality of real life emergency personnel is intense enough already. It's insulting both to the real heroes out there and the viewers' intelligence.
@ariadne0w12 жыл бұрын
I recommend watching Bondi Rescue, if you haven't already. It's a reality TV show on Season 15 about the lifeguards on one of the largest public beaches in the world (Australia) and there's enough natural drama that they don't really throw anything else in. The occasional contrived inter-lifeguard drama just gives me a chuckle since they're all obviously good friends. Only downside is that it's real life, and you can't save everyone, so there are always 1-2 really heavy episodes per season, but it's usually intense and light-hearted.
@Justinrojones2 жыл бұрын

In the episode, they had already had a batshit crazy plot - it was a two parter where the hospital staff was out for karaoke after a long day, and various staff members were drugged with some super roofie (I am pretty sure they described it as a super roofie). One of the people drugged was this nurse. He had been in that alley for over a day, btw. EDIT: Oh yeah, they were drugged because a bartender didn't like how people said doctors and nurses were heroes during COVID

How.. what.. Sorry, I am as medical as a stone, but a thing I learned about First Aid is no matter what, no matter the situation, the very first thing is calling 911! EVERYTHING else later! (Personal opinion it is depending on the situation, if the person is about to die in the next few seconds then maybe stabilize him - But by god there were TWO people! One can stabilize while the other can call 911!)
@Green__one2 жыл бұрын
And stabilize here is actually pretty straight forward. Apply direct pressure to the wound, that's all you can do as a lay person waiting for EMS, and it's actually surprisingly effective.

I like to imagine one of these shows with one character who is actually a competent, educated FF/EMT. It starts off as a light situational comedy, and slowly turns into one first responder's gradual descent into madness. EDIT: I just had a dream about reading a patient's negative review of the doctor who botched the injection of the contrast dye for her post-colonoscopy ultrasound. I think these may have gotten into my mind.

@skydiverclassc20312 жыл бұрын
It was accurate in that they always contacted Doc Sideburns at the hospital with a report on conditions before they actually did anything. That way they got clear instructions.

Extremely, far as I am aware. The incidents had to have actually happened and be in a real logbook, for instance, and since it was promoting a whole new kind of first responder, they wete pretty careful.

BUT SEEING THIS CAULKING GUN- WHO THE FUCK IN THEIR STUPID MIND WOULD SAY "Oh he's bleeding profusely! Not to mention that caulking becomes inert when wet. Doesn't matter if its blood. It will never dry as long as it remains wet. And the constant flow of blood will eventually push the caulking out of the wound once it becomes watery enough. This is possibly the worst medical practice in TV I have ever seen next to the one time I saw in a series whose name i forgot where they try to turn a car battery into a defibrillator to bring back an old man who had a heart attack with jumper cables.
@iz2333 Жыл бұрын
Oh don't worry, it wont get pushed out since she injected it straight into his bloodstream. It would probably get pushed up or down and cause a fatal embolism but that's for the surgeons to worry about.
