@@charlotteb7433 It’s hot water pastry, the same as pork pies, except it’s a lot thicker than Scotch pies, it’s weird he didn’t make them “properly”

I've tried those pies and they're nice. There's something different about them compared to the Scotch Pies you buy in Greggs, but that maybe be something to do with cooking methods. Their sausage rolls, steak bakes and cheese and onion bakes are good too. I think the pastry used in Scotch Pies is called 'hot water pastry'.

My dad worked down the pits during the late 70’s/early 80’s and they all used to have a scotch pie in a roll with butter and brown sauce at meal time as it was full of energy and very tasty. I still do the same to this day and it never fails to taste amazing, love them 👍🏻

My dad worked down the pits in Ayrshire in the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies - until the mines were closed. He would never have taken a Scotch pie in a roll for his ‘piece’ - that must be a local tradition.

I bought some 'Scottish Favourites' Scotch Pies from Poundland. As they were cheap I thought I'd read the ingredients to see what the meat content was. As they did actually contain some beef (and chicken!) I thought I'd try them. Didn't think much of the couple I had. Then I re-read the ingredients and realised I'd missed 'beef connective tissue' as one of the ingredients! The other 2 have remained in the freezer for the last 6 months!

Scotch pie is actually good with tomato or brown sauce but the beans is nice and beans and mash potatoes, nice with chips and a staple of Scottish chip shops deep fried but delicious or in a roll or on a plate with gravy and chips and peas Then you have the variants such as the macaroni pie which is a scotch pie pastry case filled with macaroni cheese & popular & there is chicken curry scotch pie by bells which is not bad tbh The Killie pie made in Kilmarnock is a delicacy there sold around western Scotland it's a scotch pie with premium steak in it & the vans from that company have the logo "say aye to a killie pie" keep up the good work & your positive vibes and never ending content make me laugh & forget about these shot times were all in😊

They look nice. For me though as with all pies and pizza I always cut the crusts/edges off. I just eat the filling mainly.

I live in Aberdeen but am an Ayrshire lass and the pies up here are nothing compared to the ones back home. The best ones are from The Kandy Bar bakery in Saltcoats....always go in when I visit home and buy heaps to stock up the freezer! These are a close second though
