Grief is our expression of unrequited love for those we've lost. It isn't something we're meant to "move on" from; it's meant to stay with us in different ways and change us because that's what love does.
In this #mentalhealthmonday session, Marisa Renee Lee discusses her book Grief Is Love: Living with Loss. Marisa reflects on how she's connected with centuries of Black women who've served as caretakers in America, and on her simultaneous struggle to accept care (in the form of rest, support from friends, therapy, and self-compassion. She also laments Black people's difficulty accessing the physical/psychological safety required to be emotionally vulnerable and therefore grieve in full.
