Do you have the grip strength to tear a phonebook with your hands? While it does require strength, there's definitely some technique that might make it easier! Some people will like this and others won't - that's fine! This is entirely optional and not needed for fitness. HOWEVER, if you're like me and receive unsolicited phone books in the mail still, you can try this before putting them away to recycle. I really don't use them otherwise. (to be fair, I think the ones we get in the mail now are much smaller than they used to be). Note: I cannot emphasize how much of a beginner I am compared to people like @hairculese @irontamer @strongmanstorytelling and other performing strongmen. If you're at all interested in this, please check out their pages for inspiration and education. If there are any technique discrepancies, it's probably an error on my end. Have a wonderful day!

For people upset about the "waste of paper" When paper is recycled it is shredded into small pieces and made into a soup like consistency to make new paper. If something is going to be recycled and go through this process anyways, ripping it beforehand doesn't matter as it is going to be recycled.

I'm on KZfaq too much... The strongman in the beginning reminds me of Charles Berthoud. Now I've created a backstory (in my mind) where his family has possessed crazy grip strength for generations, and further developed that talent for professions that capitalize upon it. And just like that, it made sense how Charles can shred a bass guitar like practically no other 😂 Commenting for the algorithm and lols. Keep being awesome, Hampton. There's a really easy way to do it with your thumbs that requires almost no strength. Hard to explain over text but you essentially bend the book on your hands and then force a V type shape with your thumbs so makes space between the pages so you're actually tearing the ends of them by themselves but at the same time.
