Grizzly 700 Drive Belt Change and Shim Mod Install for MORE Low End PoWeR

This video shows how to change the drive belt and where to add a shim if you're needing more low end grunt on your Grizzly Ultramatic transmission. This method is a inexpensive method in gearing the Grizzly down on the bottom end to provide more pop. The shim is installed between the collar and spreads the sheaves. A disadvantage to this shim modification is losing some top end max speed. Others may decide to fork out the money to have their sheaves machined, which likely will not hinder max top speed. Thanx bro my first grizzly and first automatic ever. Im learning. I bought an 07 fixer upper last week. Just got her started tonight, I swapped the wrong battery the previous owner had in there with the correct one, cleaned out the throttle body, new plug flushed the radiator, and new oil she sounds brand new. Gonna do a valve adjustment and possibly an epi clutch upgrade.

What a great video! You take the time to explain everything in detail including the size of the pieces being removed. This makes it so great for entry level novices who may not understand the process involved with doing this. Definitely worth a watch and more than worth the thumbs up I gave.

Note that upon handeling the primary basket you keep pressure on the cam plate so that the rollers/ weights will stay in place. Tks for the vid!

Wrong, if you do not keep pressure on the cam plate the weights may come out of the channels and it will get ugly, quick. That cover you mentioned is only there to keep grease from coming out.

Great tutorial! Concise, well narrated, well edited, well lit environment, and to the point! Without all the "listen to me and how much I know" BS incorporated into so many others out there. You just showed us in 4 minutes what two other videos took almost an hour of my time having to listen to bullshit in order to get a nugget of information out of. Wish I had found yours first. Thank you so much for taking the time to produce an exceptionally well done video!

Well done! That will help many years down the road. I have a question about the shim. The center ID of that shim. It seems to be too large. I don't think it will hurt anything, just droops a bit on the shaft.
@atvdirt1

Thanks and yes you're correct. The shim was left over from a King Quad 750 shim mod years ago and was a bit larger. I also don't see it effecting anything mechanically and still produces the desired results.

So I just bought a new 2019 Grizzly EPS, and it looks like they went with a larger stock tire (AT26) over the previous year. I just bought some Maxxis Zilla tires in an AT27. I am still not sure if I even need the shim mod on mine or not even with these larger tires. What do you suggest?

I hope you can assist...So, if I want an upgrade to heavier tires, I should install this shim device? I just went to 8 ply Tusk Terabites which are heavier (by feel) than what the stock tires were. I have been riding and rock crawling, and it seems to be fine without a shim. Will there be any sign of damage, or slippage when I take a look inside, or when I drive it? I don't feel any slippage while driving currently. Are there different thicknesses to the shim, or are they just on size? How do I order one? Thanks so much in advance for the assistance.

nice vid. my only question is that don't you have to be very careful when tightening up the 22mm nut? I'm looking into doing this and was told to torque the nut to 100ftlbs
@ericpigg2689
@ericpigg2689 6 жыл бұрын
I tried to get mine to 100 ftlbs but I could not keep it from turning when I tightened it, even with a ratchet strap. I ended up using some blue Loctite on it and hitting a few times with the impact. I believe the downside to overtightening is less than undertightening. You do not want that thing coming apart in there! I have seen people do it both ways.
