I hate grouting! It's probably one of my least favourite home improvement projects, but it has to be done. I think that overall, it would have been just as easy to use the type of epoxy grout I used for the countertop instead of this cement based grout, so for future projects I'll use that instead. More expensive, but the results are 100x better. Love the tile choice, John, and the layout pattern. I tiled my 2 bathrooms (my first time tiling) a few years ago. I was happy with the result but didn't much enjoy the process.

Respect, I don't know about you in America, but many of us in Croatia use silicone grout in the corners of and the intersections, so it's nicer to see and only the place is cleaner after the work is finished and most important.that is avioding water erosion on that critical places.

Lots of hard tedious work John, but that is a beautiful big floor! All without knee pads! My knees couldn't have handled it. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Congratulations on being done with it! That porcelain is unreasonably hard. I just did my bathroom with similar oversized tiles, and I ruined two blades. But you have to admit that it's satisfying when its over. That looked great.

Clean up after grouting is much simpler than the way you did yours. Make the first pass with a sponge to smooth out the grout between the tiles as you did. Grout another area and then with the second pass of the sponge just make a SINGLE pass diagonal to the lines with each side of the sponge and then rinse... You're done. Once dried, preferably the next day, any remaining slight haze can be buffed out with an old T Shirt or even burlap. The circular motion continues to spread a very thin layer of grout over the tiles that you need to continually rinse. I just finished a 400 sq ft basement and it took about 5 hours to grout it from start to finish.

I really like that floor, John. I like the color, the texture, the pattern - the whole thing. Nice choices, and nicely executed. Really looks good all the way around.

they sell a grout saw with carbide grit that is absolutely ideal for this. Just did a bathroom floor + walk in shower yesterday. took 20 minutes to knock down the excess mortar between the joints. And i was less than careful in a few areas (particularly the floor mosaic in the shower. lol)

Outstanding work, John! I'm starting to think this is what I want to do to our kitchen floor. Pull up the old vinyl (fake tile look) and replace it with something like this.

I am about to grout kitchen countertop tile which is floor simulated wood grain tile used on countertop. Since it is a kitchen countertop my grout lines are very thin (1/16') I will be using un-sanded grout. I am using a premixed (un-sanded) grout and was wondering if I should thin grout down to better get down into hairline tile joints?

There's hardly any gap between my tiles and i need to regrout it cause of water seepage from behind the tile. Any suggestions on how to scrape off the old grout? Do i really need to scrape off or just apply new grout on the old one.

Looks really nice. I have never heard of using boiled linseed oil as a grout sealer. Is there an advantage to using this over the other sealers that you know of? When the guys sealed my tiled shower, they used this spray that had a pretty loud smell. Then, they rubbed it into the grout with an old tshirt.

Fantastic looking floor, I like the diagonal pattern. I know what you mean about grouting, the cleanup is a bitch of a job. I used black grout in my bathroom and it seemed like it was never going to clean up!

1st under the kitchen you had to put silicone and not stucco 2nd when we place tiles we use the comb very carefully so as not to contaminate the tiles with glue because it is difficult to get out and the tiles get dirty and you were polished, 3rd when we clean we do not use my hair , you just take a spatula and clean the joints where there is only glue, and on the tiles we clean them with water if it is hot even better and with a big sponge, 4th when we do the washing with a sponge we leave the stock 15/20 minutes to pull so that the joint does not fall at all, you will tell me now that everyone has a different way of working according to the structure you do not lose anything

A small point but I think you should have used mastic at the joint with the upstands. It is good practice when tiling to use a flexible joint at any change of direction or at a joint with a dissimilar material.

What do you like about thinned linseed oil as a grout sealer vs commercial grout sealer preparations?

What's the mix ratio for the Linseed oil? 70% Linseed, 30%Paint Thinner? Thanks for the great tip!

How much thinset between the tiles is OK? I used your advise, and used the spacers to get out as much thinset as possible, but I am curious as to how much is too much?

how do you prep for the reseal? mop, steam clean, ... ? on an earlier comment you mentioned that in future you'd probably just stay with the epoxy grout, would that mean less resealing? kitchen looks great.

You should had use sawdust to remove concrete residue from tiles, much easier and cleaner way to do it

Wouldn't oil attract dirt and grime. I imagine it would add water resistancy but oil attracts dirt and it'll get pretty gucked up. Why not just use a real grout sealant
