I feel you! I’m an entrepreneur and a night owl too. I usually wake up at 9/9:30 and go to bed around midnight. I don’t have any meetings until 11am. I do “boring admin in the morning when I’m still waking up, then eat, then work out until I have meetings. I try to keep my meetings between 2-6pm, and then again 7-8:30pm. I do some work after that until 9ish! It’s weird, but it works for me 🙂

Not saying everything would be perfect, but I can't help but feel if healthcare coverage was more complete in the US that a lot of the stress related to health issues would be alleviated. Thank you for the update and best of luck moving forward! As for getting work done on open schedules, I tend to just take the day as it comes. Most of my tasks have multiple days before they're due, so when I'm on a roll, I'll tend to work longer as long as I'm in that flow state and then on days where I wake up at 11:40 am because I went to sleep at 4 the night before because I was catching up on anime (lol) It's not a big deal and I can just focus on self-care, which I tend to prioritize over work. I can get to work when my schedule opens up again and work for what I feel is an appropriate amount of time, usually until 6 or 7pm since I start work around 11 or 12. Obviously for work that's due the same day or emergency issues, I'll just have to bite the bullet and take care of the issues then and there, but I tend to set deadlines for myself with plenty of extra time so I'm usually a day or two ahead of schedule when I finish. Importantly, I almost never submit my work early (the earliest is first thing the day it's due), not just because I want to maintain that buffer time for my future tasks, but also to allow time for me to catch mistakes, review and polish the deliverable. Hope this helps if it's applicable to your situation, which I admit it may not be.

The stress of dealing with insurance is definitely a huge added headache to the already rough parts of dealing with health issues.. I’m so grateful I had insurance when this happened - I had only had it for about 9 months🥲 And thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts!! This was very helpful and made me feel a lot less crazy for working random schedules and having late nights LOL I really love how you mentioned the buffer time so that you are able to do that. I definitely struggle with using my deadlines as a method to get things done which definitely leads to more stress and burnout.. this made me realize my issue is a bit more complex than I thought and procrastination is a key component to my problem with actually embracing the flexible schedule I want.. thank you again and wish you all the best as well!🫶🏻

@@PaigeWestCo Wow, I'm glad it was so useful! Time management is definitely a skill that I've had issues with (and still do have issues with). I think your advice to just start doing something that you've been procrastinating on is extremely helpful. Sometimes, I schedule in a time to start a task that I've been putting off. It's also interesting that you mention burnout. I've heard other professionals mention that burnout is really not an issue with working too many hours but an issue with the work not being something that sparks joy in yourself. I think I've been pretty lucky so far that I can take breaks and share my less-desirable minor tasks with some colleagues of mine. I've also drastically reduced the number of meetings I attend and that has helped SO MUCH with feelings of burnout. Even now, the meetings I do attend feel totally useless after we're done updating each other on the overall situation and any new issues that arise. There's just something deeply inefficient of forcing a synchronous situation where only one person can speak at a time to give out information. I'd much rather have an asynchronous email thread that I can easily refer back to and summarize and do a one-on-one or really tiny meeting for a sanity check with the stake holder(s).

@@snowballeffect7812that trick of just starting even if it’s not perfect is my one good procrastination hack that’s worked for me thus far😅 I definitely agree with burnout being misalignment more than being overworked.. I needed that reminder though! Now that I freelance and my work can be across the board, I tend not to check in as much on what sparks joy. New action step from your comment for myself is to try measuring my feeling of burnout on a daily basis - I bet there’s a correlation between specific types of work or specific clients that’s leading to my burnout. Especially since it’s not a daily feeling like I had in my corporate job! Thanks again for the insights and convo! The comments are becoming a mastermind session like I hoped😊

A super relatable video already from the first minutes. I also just started freelancing and I have the same struggles with the daily activities and the freedom I have with my time planning, especially again today. And everything seems to take super much time and you constantly feel like time is just going...and very few things get done and the struggle of wanting to go to the gym, but also it takes time :D When doing the 9-5 it does not raise these thoughts because that's how it just is :D

I've been a mom of a young child for most of my time as a freelancer. It's been difficult but it's also forced me to work when I have time. The best part of freelancing is making your own schedule. Some days you'll work for 12 hours because you're in the zone. Other days you won't work at all. That's ok as long as you get the work done :)

Wow you are amazing!! And this gives me so much hope for when we have children one day!! ❤️ also thank you for validating that it’s okay to work very different hours on the day to day! I don’t know why my brain is so conditioned to be hard on myself when I’m not “consistent” with my schedule even though that’s the whole beauty of freelancing😅
