Nostalgia hits hard with this one... the voice lines, the music, the campaign. What a game!

man this game is a treasure. it was so sad that it didn't do great like the other games but it released i believe only a few months after warcraft 3 which was so damn innovative for the time. this game was a loved and passionately made game that was held back due to the tech of the time. this and warcraft 3 and command and conquer yuris revenge were my 3 golden staples even more than aoe.

Age of Mythology is definitely an unsung masterpiece and was ahead of its time in many ways. I can only hope the remake lives up to it.

I remember it was my favorite RTS singleplayer campaign along with Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne. Soundtrack is so memorable.

Couple pieces of info (based on what I remember): - Houses max out and only way to get more pop is to build town centers which can only be built on areas with foundations for them - AOM uses a rock, paper, scissors method for combat with infantry gaining bonus over calvary, calvary gaining bonuses over archers, and archers getting bonuses over infantry, heroes do more damage to myth and take less damage from myth. Myth abilities don't work on them either as well - You get favor differently based on the type of unit which is used for myth units. The Norse is very different and is closer to the zerg of the game with cheap units who use infantry to build which can mean quick expansion to someone's base and they get favor from attacking. - Heroes are different by race with Greek having limited units but highly powerful, Egyptians using priests which are unlimited, Norse have an unlimited hero which gains more favor on attacks, and Atlanteans being able to spend favor to turn any human into a hero - Dwarfs gather from gold quicker than humans (only Norse) - When gather food, the source determines speed of gathering: Hunting > Herd creatures > Bushes > Farming

finally you play my favorite game!! there are some really good players on the ladder still to this day so i hope you try multiplayer its a bunch of fun, the meta is really unique because of myth units and god powers

omg Grubby ! this brought back soo many memories for me . AOM was my first ever pc game . i still remember trying to kill every enemy ai troop just to win a campaign mission , since i didnt knew english well at the time of playing this game ( i was 5 and english is not my 1st language) . Thank you for bringing back those beautiful memories.

Aoe3 is another completely underrated banger that gets overlooked too. It was way ahead of its time with the graphics and physics, I think it wasn’t as popular due to the home city/card shipment mechanic. It’s definitely worth checking out too.

I grew up playing this game and AoE. This is an unbelievably nostalgic game. I had kinda forgotten about it, but hearing about the update coming got me excited like no other game can. Can't wait to spam Hersirs and summon endless giants!

Ran into this game by accident around 2007ish, instantly addicted to it at the time.

Oh my childhood, I used to have screenshots from the opening cinematic as my school laptop background in middle school. Me and all my friends would stay after school to play this together at the gaming club. Such fun times

This surprised me, but makes a lot of sense. This is my most played game I think (if not League by now), from age 8 to 28. I also liked AoE but didn't know much English at age 5 so AoM later was THE RTS for me. Your first time was a bit different from my first time :D

Crazy. When this game dropped and I picked it up, I was in heaven. Age of Empires meets fantasy. Such great memories with it.

I am playing this game to this day still My favorite strategy game of all time Edit: You will love how insanely challenging the altlantian campaign is on titan difficulty Titan diffiiculty doesnt apply to the older campaigns though. Its literally just hard mode anyways. But you feel it on the new altantian campaign brutally The second campaign mission "atlanstis reborn" is the hardest thing you can overcome in this game (on titan difficulty)

i must say for someone so into rts and exploring all clicking mechanics and go crazy about some hotkeys u have no vision of the blinking rings on ur mini map in the first mission :D :D

The cutscenes for the game launch in a different window haha that's why the cinematic didn't work launching from the game. It's by far one of the best games imo though. It launching when ancient myths were starting to pop off with Percy Jackson coming out a few years later and then we had the Movie Troy as well etc there was a fascination with myth I recall.

the story of arkantos was so fun, its been ages, happy reborn is coming out soon!

AOM was my jam back then, played it more than AOE2 and had a lot of fun in the map editor. I miss those times.

Nothing but love for this game. Been playing it for many, many years online. Imo it's not that mechanical but rather decision heavy. That's one of the aspects I like, you don't need 300 APM to get stuff done. It's quite chill.

One time I got very titled at a friend of mine in Dawn of War. I surreptitiously plugged in a spare USB keyboard and just started tapping delete. No confirmation, hilarious.

My favourite RTS of all time. The music specially, is still wonderful and masterful. Yao? Yerrvil. Shamfigt?

In order for the gamespeed to run at it's normal. V-sync, must be enabled, as too high FPS makes the game run too fast. :)

Age of Mythology was my goddamn childhood. Especially as a Greek I remember laughing my ass of with some of the pronounciations.

Excited for AoM Retold!

In the original game it was Greek, Egyptian and Norse. The expansion add the Atlanteans and the Titans. The Chinese were added a few years back with the first expansion in like 15 years by a new team. They were the ones who cleaned up the interface for modern computers. The Chinese were never great and the campaign was below the others with no voices even.

Imo AoM's biggest problem was that it came out at nearly the same time as Warcraft 3. I mean, WC3 came out in July and AoM in October so by the time AoM came out, everyone was basically just playing WC3.

It’s a great game. Like aoe2 it’s got a couple rough edges to the unit movement so you feel like a general rather than a god. Aoe4 sometimes makes me feel more like a god with instant attack firing and 100% accuracy, rather than say StarCraft which has 100% accuracy but in projectiles that are expected to be near instance so it feels fine. StarCraft also has random attack delays implemented which make the game feel less sterile. Hope you enjoy the game. Aced every class I had on “classics” because of this game

In DoW if you spam a attack your units will sometimes not attack as I found the game bugs. And they sometimes stagger turn

You really need to play tha campaign. It's really well made and clearly a labor of love. Oh and the music in this game is banging.

AOM was awesome. One of the best RTS games of all time and unfortunately was largely forgotten. Personally I liked it a lot more than AOE.

I used to go on pc houses just to play this, msot of the times we had 3x3 or free for all with 4 ppl was super fun
