GTE 060 -- The Blue Streak for Gaslands Combat Vehicle Game

In this episode, I’ll show you the steps I took to create a new combat vehicle for the Gaslands game. This one uses the Aristo Rat from Hot Wheels. For weapons and accessories, I used no 3D printed parts, just a mixed collection of leftover plastic pieces from model kits and some electronics components such as a transistor and a 3-wire connector for a turret.

The Gaslands Rule Book lists "minimum" base sizes. It's prevents people from modelling to advantage by using tiny versions of big vehicles, as well as gives bikes a meaningful foot print. If your car is larger than the minimum footprint you can simply use a larger appropriate base. In my gaming group, none of us use bases, but everyone glues their wheels. Unglued wheels allow the cars to roll out of their positions and lead to arguments about positioning.

Totally agree... bases are just something that I feel are unnecessary if you glue the wheels. I guess if you have young kids, they might like to play with them with rolling wheels.

The phone cable electronic part is a great idea! I'll need to look into phone and network cable plugs for use as car turrets! Car looks great! A thought about the engine, I know that the block structure of lots of engines are painted a color, like orange or blue, so maybe paint the main section of the engine and then grunge it up!

Interesting build. BTW your two white "machine guns" in the cab are landing gear struts from a model aircraft kit. Thanks for providing a few ideas, this was a good video.

I can't speak for you, but modding cars is my favorite part. I love playing Gaslands, but there's something about taking a raw car and turning it into a Gaslands competitor.

The parts you used for guns are most likely the landing gear from a model plane kit. Keep up the great videos!

Could be. I bought a bunch of 'junk' sprue leftovers a while back and these were in the handful I grabbed.

With watching this video, it made me think I need to stop by the "Reuseum". They have tons of electronics pieces and also salvage pieces from broken hardware... so they have a lot of "stuff". Dropped $5 for a bunch of bits and pieces I can add. :-) Thank you for these ideas.

Let me tell you -- electronics components make GREAT greebles. Voltage converters look like machine gun turrets, resistors and transistors can be made into fuel tanks and other tank-shaped items. I've got to find a place in Atlanta like "Reuseum" -- sounds like an awesome place for a hobbyist.

Something that I found, is that picture hanging wire, makes a really nice looking "cable" along the lines of the chain you did in GTE053. I am using it for bumpers on one build.

Yea, I have some thicker stuff. It's not the thin version. It is braided. It is like this, not sure if I have 30lb or something heavier or lighter, though: www.amazon.com/Picture-Hanging-Wire-Stainless-Gallery/dp/B07C31QZPP/ I put it around doors, on bumpers, under windows. I really should have taken a photo of my car this morning. :-)

Thanks to these videos and a couple others explaining the game, I made up my first Gaslands truck this weekend. The name "El Paso" kept going through my mind as I was painting it so, the name kind of stuck. I think its the giant cow skull on the front I added from an old Orc Boys set. I did have question for you though. I'm having a difficult time drilling out the cars from the bottoms. I keep slipping with my drill or feel like i'm grinding too much away, and it keeps leaving big nasty holes in the bottom of my cars. Since its on the bottom and these things are supposed to be beat up, I guess it shouldnt matter, but any tips on breaking them down to help us newbies out? Thank You.

I tried a number of drill bits and finally figured out you need one that is just a hair smaller diameter than the rivet you're drilling.
