With Season 4 of Guilty Gear Strive only just recently confirmed, it's time we take a look back at Zappa, one of the series's most forgotten, and most insane, characters!

She was already deep in the pipeline too before that poll showed her as the #1 most wanted so they didn't even need that push. I hope that means we're still able to get new characters along with returning characters (Fanny would be sick pastaman). I personally want to see Ariels being playable.

zappa would be neat but HOLY SHIT would it be hard to animate him well in 3d. it's not impossible but if aba took a year from start to finish in strive it'd take at least double that for zappa.

guilty gear characters were always keyframed in 3d and then traced in pixel art, they could definitely manage it

@@nevermorefractures3401 the question isn't if it's possible, it's if it's WORTH it. zappa is a relatively unpopular character with complex animations,. unlike a lot of other characters arksys starts running into the problem of "do we add zappa or do we put more time into the next story mode?"

I also was under that misconception that Zappa was no longer possessed , but figured it could be a case of the spirits coming back and them him coming to terms with it. I believe on my last ARC survey I picked ABA and Zappa as peeps I'd want to return so I'm doing my Part. On the subject of RoboKy, I would also enjoy him back but isnt he legit ass dead in the end of Xrd? I remember watching some custscene where he sacrifices himself or smth, maybe another misconception…

He did sacrifice himself against Bedman but his head somehow manages to survive, so he's just a floating head now living with Venom who's running a bakery to get the funds needed to rebuild Robo-Ky's body, so there's a way to bring him back if they want to.

3:28 cool thing about the black dog, in english folklore (which to a _certain_ extent does extend into australia) there is a legend of a dog called the black shuck. the black shuck has pitch black fur and red eyes and is said to have eyes that can curse you to die and a howl that can do the same in some stories. What I'm saying is that that black dog spirit can be the black shuck or at least inspired by it although with it being a puppet character in game the black shuck isn't said to attack people *usually*

My boy! Bring back my best boy! All he wants is love...but he doesn't know he's loved by a bunch of spirits! I would have loved the chance to freak out people with Zappa in online play. I did take the time to learn Zappa, and you're right...there's few fighting game characters as satisfying as him to learn and implement. Now I also really want to see Zappa in Strive. (I already did, but seeing his character development in your review makes me want it so much more.) (I would take Robo Ky too, just for the chance of a new song...)

I was screaming for Bridget and Zappa to come back years ago. Bridget finally made it and now all it needs now is Zappa. I know everyone would rage out if he did come back because of Raoh. But idegad. BRING ZAPPA BACK!

You know the frequent use to lyircs like "I know how I am" or "I know who you are" or the general vibe of personal growth in a lot of the characters themes is a really nice reflection of how glowed up a lot of the returning cast are in Xrd/Strive. As much as I'd like a out of pocket character like Izuna added, I'd be happy with Zappa coming back too.

I would absolutely love to see him reappear. I just picked up XX a few days ago and he's like... every single thing I love about characters I play in other games all in one. He's got the weird and captivating animations of Voldo in Soul Calibur, a ton of unique mechanics and an overarching win condition to play around like Arakune in Blazblue, and he's even the only other puppet character I know of aside from Lieselotte in Arcana Heart who can use their puppet in blockstun. Seeing him in Strive would very, very likely be the reason I start playing that game seriously.

I feel like this video was made for me. For years, whenever I hear anything about Guilty Gear, the only question I wanna ask is whether or not Zappa can finally be playable, no matter how many times I hit the bricks! Mind you, the only game I personally played was AC for the Wii, wherein I mained the crap out of Zappa (go figure). Long story short, I loved that he's a summoner just in general, hosts a diverse arsenal, and even hides a fuck-you spirit! For those reasons, he was also the first character I really tried to get good with; didn't even occur to me how advanced Zappa's gameplay is supposed to be. I just spin the wheel and roll with whatever summon was in store, like playing 3-4 characters in one! I haven't followed the story past AC too closely, but the footage you showed of Zappa's later cutscenes only fuels my hopes. If his new gameplay does involve him consciously controlling the spirits inside him, my imagination is as good as yours. Also, since you brought him up at the end, Robo-Ky's the close second among my mains in AC. Harder for me to master than Zappa, but incredibly satisfying for me nowadays (even though my handle on him is still somewhat cheap and spammy).

If I could gush a bit. As a giant nerd for things like ghosts, cryptids, and other stuff like that, Zappa feels tailor made for me even though I originally got in GG because of Chipp. He's one of my favorite characters, and without a doubt I do feel that as a character he has more that can be explored with him, namely the ghosts (ie S-Ko). I do hope that with the recent demand for him becoming more prominent and with the caveat that Daisuke wants to have all previously playable characters return to Strive in some way that he will get in in Season 4. I do think that if they're going to piggyback off of the theme of love established in Season 3 then he could be a good segway into the new roundup of DLC. But only this upcoming August will tell for certain.

I'm pretty sure they'll bring Zappa in Strive in either the very beginning of S4 or as its last character. He's the only character from xx era who is still canonically alive and hasn't returned yet and he already played a huge role in xrd's story so it's not like he's out of the picture. No, Robo Ky isn't on the list. He's just a head now. Without a body. But if they bring Venom back I'm sure Robo Ky will accompany him or even replace some of his ball moves.

I'm hoping we can manage to keep Strive going long enough to get a return of every playable character, at least from the main line games and that hasn't been dead for long. That's about 2 more seasons worth, but Zappa and Robo-Ky are definitely top of that list for me. I'd love to see Zappa have some dialog with Goldlewis since it's confirmed he doesn't believe in ghosts anymore than aliens, and maybe Zappa could have some comment on whatever's going on with Bedman too.

I saw Zappa for the first time in a DashieXP video,one of his Mortal Kombat ones. I always thought he was cool. Didn’t know what guilt gear was at the time but now that I do I genuinely want him and strive. Hopefully, he makes it for season four.

I was never good with him, but he was one of the things that drew me to the series in the first place WAY back in the XX days. His design and playstyle was so unique for the time that I knew there was something special about this series. If they bring him back, however, I'd still want his animations to lean towards body horror like they used to. Sort of like maybe he has control of who/what possesses him and when, but once they take over he starts moving in all sorts of weird ways because the spirits don't know how to pilot his body. Whatever the rational, he needs to still be a freaky lil' guy.

There're plenty of other characters still left in old games, like Izuna, Dr Paradigm, Order-Sol, Valentine, Fanny, Leopaldon, the Zakkos, Robo-Ky, Kum Haehyun, Jam, Raven, Dizzy, and Kliff and Justice kept appearing throughout the X games even after dying (and this is a series with time travel and resurrection and cloning) so neither of them are that implausible either.

I’ve pretty much given up on strive at this point since I’m new to fighting games and somehow managed to get to a high floor as Potemkin but now I can’t play any other characters without losing 50 matches straight. If Zappa really does come back I think I might try giving it another chance bec I really was rooting for him when everyone thought ABA would be Venom

Potimkin plays very different from every other character. So having him as your first character can make playing others a little bit harder. I would recommend to keep at it and to try and learn on someone that has more regular mechanics then pot. Other then that you just gotta keep at it and do your best even if you lose a lot! You gotta keep in mind that losing while it sucks is a good learning moment, you just gotta recognize your mistakes and do your best to fix them. Good look Daredevil!!!

My only concern is that they dumb down and simplify Zappa like they did aba. I think it’s a shame that strives cast is no where near as inventive and mechanically distinct as xrd and accent core
