Hey! This is my pick! I felt it was criminal that more people didn't know about this guy, I'm so glad you picked it and enjoyed! Hopefully I can surprise you more in the future. Cheers!

Thank you picking this. Robbie is one of the greats in both guitar playing and songwriting.

Robbie is a friend of mine and a favorite of most musicians in Chicago. Not only is he a great (and edge of chaos) guitar player. He is genuinely one of America’s greatest living songwriters. I did a long interview with him on my channel for those who are interested. It was mid pandemic and the audio isn’t great, be we do go deep on his thoughts about music and songwriting. Check out his albums, especially Upland Stories, Gone Away Backward, and Bluegrass Vacation. Thanks for bringing attention to Robbie. He’s one of my musical heroes.

He's got it all. Great voice. Great songs. Great-great guitar playing. Robbie is also as funny as most stand-up comedians between songs.

“Fountains of Wayne Hotline” is fantastic. A tribute to Fountains of Wayne that sounds exactly like them. Safe to say Robbie Fulks is a talented man.

i have seen Robbie Fulks in sweden 6 or 7 years ago and he was smashing live and the talks in betwen songs was hilarius and i only understan half of it. sorry for my bad spelling

I have seen him live many times. He is a consummate entertainer. Whether solo, with full band, or single accompanying musician, he is always ENTERTAINING! And he gave guitar lessons to Tina Fey.

The man is playing those chords in every which way possible holding down rhythm, lead, vocals and percussion. Every bit clean as a whistle and he's not even breaking a sweat. I wouldn't clip my strings either if I got a month's use out of them in a single tune.

Robbie does it all. Writes, sings, and plays great! Not many artists can release a trio like "Georgia Hard", "Gone Away Backwards", and "Upland Stories" back-to-back-to-back.

Robbie Fulks is a genius. First heard his Country Love Songs album and was hooked. South Mouth is also outstanding. Funny, occasionally dark and amazing on guitar. Writes poignant lyrics. Grammy nominated, too. Wonderful live. He has some amazing live videos on KZfaq from The Hideaway nightclub in Chicago where he does musical mashups to hilarious effect. For instance Leonard Cohen and Lynyrd Skynyrd or Lou Reed and Jerry Reed. He has a great track that superbly combines music and comedy called Fountains of Wayne Hotline. Incredible talent and humor. Like Tom Russell, one of modern American music's unsung heroes.

I've seen him twice in person, and he's great, with a Koettke or Lovett type dry between songs patter that will have you howling. Also, Michael- be sure to check his tune "Aunt Peg's New Old Man". I know you have bluegrass/old-time DNA - this is a clawhammer tribute to a musician aunt of his. I think you'll enjoy it.

Robbie is no sleeper to us familiar with his work over the years. One of the greats. And yes, Robbie is being playful ..... and he might play this song differently each time he picks up the guitar.

In the latter days of exchanging mix-tapes with people I often used to include Robbie Fulks for recipients. Always went down well. If I recall, things like 'Down In Her Arms' from Let's Kill Saturday Night (whole different electric side to Robbie) and 'South Richmond Girl'. I associate him with that Insurgent Country thing but, as a songwriter he has a lot of different facets and moods - straight-down-the-line, rebellious, goofy, sometimes quite moving...
@tpmcginnis11 ай бұрын
South Richmond Girl is an incredible song that's got a traditional feel with outstanding guitar work. Great storytelling in that one combined with incredible picking.
