Gula Melaka Huat Kueh 椰糖发糕 - Super Old School Pastry recipes | 古早味糕点食谱
Hey everyone, in today's video, my mom will be sharing her recipe on Gula Melaka Huat Kueh, a super old school recipe. Huat kueh is a Chinese pastry that is commonly used for prayer and ancestor worship. But those sold outside are super high in preservatives and is not recommended to be eaten. It's much safer to eat these at home.
Those made at home rise much taller, and are more fragrant. More importantly, they are also easier to make and take not much time! For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
250g self rising flour
6g baking powder
115g cane sugar (gula melaka)
50g caster sugar (white sugar also fine)
2-3 pieces of pandan leaves
150ml water
150ml coconut milk
2 tbsp corn oil (must be corn oil)
Steps:
1. Mix everything into a batter
2. Pour into a cup, at 90% full
3. Steam at high heat for 20 minutes.

I have made the recipe, it turned out to be very delicious but it turned to a bit brownish instead of white color, with your experience... what might I have done wrong? I will be very grateful if you can enlighten me.
