My old hair stylist trainer used to say, hair styling is all about acting, the more elaborate you make it look, the more confident you seem even if you have zero experience, people will like it and pay more. I feel like the first one, was someone trying to bump up their times to get more money.

It really did remind me of a hairdressers my Mam used to go to in the 80’s who was very theatrical and she used to be like “Can we just get on with it please, I’ve got to have dinner on the table in an hour.”

You make more money the faster you go because you can do more people
@seekingeudaimonia6884
@seekingeudaimonia6884 3 жыл бұрын
@@taylorb9661 true, unless you are in an outdated salon. Then you are going to push for the biggest money. You do all this, follow up with a special treatment. If I had a slow day or a slow salon, you are going to want to book someone into those slots and make almost as much off one person.
@seekingeudaimonia6884
@seekingeudaimonia6884 3 жыл бұрын
@@taylorb9661 normally, big jobs, get pushed to a slower day for ease of work and also it’s a slow day, so you are actually making more money this way. Like mondays, Monday mornings and afternoons are slow, you have an empty salon, if you can book someone in for a block of time on that day, that’s money and you can charge extra for the time and efforts and you hit the goldmine if this woman has long hair. My mom has super long curly hair, if it weren’t for me working there, she normally got charged out the ass for her hair. Which it is a long process and a lot of product, time, energy, you need to keep the clients fed or drinks. Its by no means an easy task but if you can get a bunch of clients on a busy day, get a big job on a slow day, it’s good practise for any hair business I also forgot to add, the more showmanship and work the bigger the tips, most stylists I knew that were good performers lived off tips and saved the rest.
@seekingeudaimonia6884
@seekingeudaimonia6884 3 жыл бұрын
I think that was one of the biggest issues for me, I was young and on top of performing, if you want to make tips as a female you need to flirt and show off the assets. Obviously, you don’t have to. But in a vanity job people want the pretty person, people like it even more when you flirt or have cleavage. Now it’s one thing to say this to an adult making an observation, but being an older gentleman telling a young woman this, it got to me. He was right though. He was definitely right.

Yep, had a few stylists try to use that on me... Unfortunately, I have a large head and (fortunately) a TON of hair, so there was always a little bump at the top where it wouldn't go any further since it was so thick and hard to stretch, so you know what that looked like -- condom -- and everyone just howled with laughter and it took a while for them to get back to business. 🙂 Anyhoo, foils were invented for folks like me... It actually does not. I did a balayage today with teasing the sections as I worked. It creates definition in between the parts that are lightened to give a more natural look. And if he did his research, did more balayages and watched, there's ways to comb the hair out when you're shampooing and conditioning after the lightening session, so that the hair doesn't get tangled or have any damage.

I love the air touch method! For all lightening services not just balayage. Everyone has shorter pieces throughout their hair whether it be damage from lightening, heat styling, putting it in a ponytail, not being gentle when brushing etc., and the air touch to me is like a cleaner, much easier version of the teasing effect.

I used to go to a hair colorist/ director at Bumble and Bumble years ago (shout out to Zoey if you are still there!) and she did the back combing and applied the balayage from there. Her technique and applied color was pristine!! Most amazing blonde Bombshell- beach look ever. I felt every other technique after experiencing her was “subpar”. All comes down to the colorist/stylist of course, but the technique is awesome 🙌

Brad, you gotta watch other videos of the air touch technique. I did it on my coworker & it was Ma-Gic! We're doing it on my hair later this week. It creates very soft & blended highlights. Yes, a little extra time with the blow dryer, but totally worth it!
