This was the moment where Miyata actually had my attention as a character. Most people say that he's a lame rival character, but when thinking about Miyata, this is one of the moments that just comes back to mind and I can't help but not feel the same.

Hajime no Ippo is structured like a boxing romcom. Don't believe me? Imagine Ippo and Miyata as the couple, and their rematch as pros as the final kiss scene. They both keep thinking about each other, the show keeps teasing their rematch, and they even get a misunderstanding that complicates their relationships in the middle of the series. Romcoms drag out their will they/won't they dynamic for drama, and Hajime no Ippo is exactly the same but with boxing boys.

If ur still looking for a series with actual grappling and fighting techniques, I reccommend the manga Teppuu its about womens MMA. I think you’ll like it

Ah bummer. There's a scene right after where Ippo punches a hole to into a vending machine if I'm remembering correctly. One of the only times he lashes out with anger. Great episode.

Ippo's superpower is getting up, but that means a punch drunk old man like Nekota is his future.

I really hoped you put the aftermath too,there were so many powerful scenes,and seeing Ippo actually mad,so emotional.I was looking forward for this one the most,knowing you probably forgot that Mashiba matches up with Ippo in the finals,so much fun,i will be rewatching this one for sure even though is sad.. * P.S. i gotta say im going to cherish this one a lot because of the love you gave to Miyata,my favourite character,seeing you frustrated,this reaction is the one😂👌

You wouldn't see Ippo vs Miyata match, because it was the main tease of the title. Now sacred cow of this story is will Ippo return to box or not. But Ippo still is Miyata's fangirl after all this time...

They really love the Standing Dead trope in this anime. A few warriors throughout history died while standing up usually against dozens or over a hundred enemies. Their muscles were beyond exhausted and rigor mortis set in before they even had a chance to fall to the ground.

"I thought we had another Miyata match!" who's gonna tell him As a side note, the manga really did Mashiba solid. He went from "do whatever it takes to win" to "I know what I am. I am a boxer." His character development is one of the best in manga as a medium.

I won't spoil but years later another one off ippis friends gets fouled on purpose just like miyata and loses. The guy goes on to complain and calls the guy weak and all this shit and ippo real talks him "respectfully he was strong he beat you and if the ref doesn't count it, then it didn't happen and you need to either hold the L or beat him "
