Half in the Bag: I Love My Dad, Watcher and Vengeance

There comes a time in two men's lives when they never watch The Batman. That time is now. Instead, these strapping young gentlemeeps watched three films that lay somewhere in the middle of the movie-greatness spectrum. Watcher, I Love My Dad and Vengeance. Three movies you may have heard of or seen available on your streaming servonk. These moopies are entertaining, interesting, lovable and sometimes flawed. But isn't that everyone of we? Does not pirate them. Support filmmakers making something other than Game of Thrones prequels or billion dollar Lord of the Rings prequels or whatever sharts are coming out soon (except for the upcoming 96th season of Ghost Adventures where the gang is sure to find their most compelling evidence yet!) Anyways, watch moopies that make you think. Make you feel scared. Or make you horribly uncomfortable. Everyday doesn't have to be a Tums festival but everyday can be a lovely day where you give a little indie movie a chance. However, never give that 1 star garbage a chance if the trailer opens with a drone shot.

(02:58) I Love My Dad
(21:10) Watcher

Honor your father and mother” is fine. Brilliant even. “Honor” does not mean to obey, agree with, or endorse bad behavior. There’s the equally genius “obey your parents in the Lord” in the New Testament which has “in the Lord” baked right in. Parents can’t make you do wrong or endorse wrong, even if you respect and honor them on principle. It’s perfect, because it doesn’t excuse bad behavior but keeps the child on the high road (bitterness and retribution are bad for you.)

So Mike was talking about the Dad from I Love My Dad and not understanding why he was the way he was and why he suddenly wanted back in his sons life. I helped run a support group for years and this is VERY common behavior from crappy parents. Firstly I just wanna touch on the "why was he such a jerk" question. Usually it's untreated mental illness or unresolved trauma. Though this is more speculation cuz I never delt with the parents directly. Now on to the more interesting question and the one I know stuff about. When a child of a crappy or abusive parent starts to set boundaries or try to cut them off it's very common for that parent to suddenly REALLY want the child's attention. Like for real it's like 9 out of 10 that do this. As so as their control is questioned or diminished they snap to attention. Sometimes they actually start being good parents and trying to be better people. Rarely that sticks and it usually only sticks with the addition of therapy. Most of the time they just go back to the same habits as soon as they feel like they have the sort of relationship they wanted back. Even if that's just being a deadbeat facebook stalker.
@NateTheScot
@NateTheScot Жыл бұрын
Yeah i figured most people knew this kind of thing or that it's rather obvious why. Especially the part about why he was a deadbeat jerk of a dad... that's usually just because their own dad was an asshole and the cycle gets repeated as past trauma shapes how they then also are abusive/neglectful to their children. They're happy to treat their child like crap but then as soon as the child blocks them or calls them out on it finally they promise to change and be better and bla bla bla but then as soon as they've kind of "brought them back under the heel" they revert to their old shitty ways again. Spend even a second on reddit's "aita" or relationship advice subs or w/e and you'll find a million stories of shitty parents and the children who finally had enough as an adult and cut them off etc.

I love when you guys review smaller release films. I have no other way of discovering this stuff so randomly and knowing whether its worth my time. I have watched several movies based on ya'lls recommendation and I tend to enjoy them. So, please, don't think these films are by any means a bad thing to talk about. As a minor side note: Walmart sold Vudu to Fandango- which I think is owned by Universal. Walmart no longer owns Vudu and at this point they have completely removed the Walmart tie-in (i used to sign in to Vudu using my walmart sign in).

39:24 New Mexico has big tax breaks for movies and also cheap actors and labor. Albuquerque is the third most-filmed city in the U.S. after L.A. and NYC. Georgia recently surpassed New Mexico as the second most-filmed state after California thanks to even bigger tax incentives, but if a scene in a movie is in the desert and you don't see saguaro cacti, odds are it's New Mexico. Also, WTF does "filmed on location" mean anymore? It used to mean that it was filmed in the place it was set, but now it just seems to mean "filmed in" and "on location" is meaningless.

I think it means it was filmed in a real location that exists, not just green screened a la George Lucas.
@Bacteriophagebs
@Bacteriophagebs Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasvinen If so, it's very sad that green-screening is prevalent enough that filming in a studio set is "on location" by comparison. I remember when _Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow_ made waves as the first movie filmed entirely in front of a green screen..and was universally panned because it sucked. If not for the SW prequels, filmmakers might have given up on that idea. Damn you, Lucas!
