This thing is a solid little backyard plinker but the stock trigger is a bit heavy.

I got one recently and put a Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40 BDC with a PEPR mount. This is crazy accurate. Laughably so. It was pulling off consistent shots (popping shotgun wads at 60 yards to simulate rabbit heads) that my 10/22 couldn't do. I love my 10/22 and is still my go-to all purpose small cal rifle, but for hunting the R1 took its spot easily. Thanks for the mileage review. Have been concerned about that.

Dump it. Very few reviewers ever point out that the Hammerli resembles an AR-15 on the outside, but it ends there. Lift the hood and you find the guts of this rifle are pot metal, in keeping with its Walther/Umarex heritage. And you need tools and a lot of patience to take it down for cleaning. Get a Tippmann M4 22. The receivers are machined aluminum throughout. So is the front handguard. Function and takedown are identical to an AR-15. Yes, the slide lock on the side of the upper actually works. You can strip it completely down for cleaning in seconds. And reassemble just as quickly. And many parts are compatible with an AR-15.

I hear the biggest complaint about the rifle is the trigger. I’m looking at it for a good plinker and maybe some 300 yard range time.

Few downsides about the rifle. Trigger is about 9pounds which is too heavy. The rifle doesn't have a functional bolt release. The barrel is an insert. Having said that it is accurate and reliable.

@@briankelly8297 Those were all things looking at all the ones available to me like the M&P and Tippmann M4. I was just more impressed that the upper and lower are not plastic. Tippmann had it all but the price for a plinked and maybe for a 300 yard at almost $700 after tax and DROS the Hammerli was the best for me. Been hearing it eats pretty much what ever you throw into it. Next will be the Ruger Precision 22.

@@caliveteranOIF Have you tried yet? I'm curious. All I have is a 100yd range. The barrel (inside the barrel housing) on this gun is barely 1/3", and quite flexible. I wouldn't think it's any good past 75 yards. I have been surprised before though.

I have done a lot of gunsmithing over the years. You did not say what you did with the trigger. Did you replace a spring, trim it, or polish a sear? My new rifle is coming today. I will surely dive into that.

Ya. I changed the flash hider to a more expensive one, just to be tacticool. I also spent money on mag pull sights because the ones they came with were GARBAGE! So after 24 more hours of thinking…. My dumbass has spent more money on the .22 accessories then the Ham itself. Sooo… I proceeded to get a Magpul stock and pistol grip. Now the pistol grip and stock are not necessarily compatible with Hammerli but with careful drilling and dremal work it has made it a fun rifle. Why did I go through this process and work? Because it’s a hobby that I enjoy and if anything I have a cool .22 now😂

just got mine I've read online that you should not dry fire rim fire firearms as it will damage it but how will I clear the gun then? What has your experience been so far dry firing this gun if you do?

I bought one of these through Simmons Sporting Goods in Louisiana. Ran 120 rounds through it and the extractor fell out. I have been trying to contact anyone about this gun. Simmons is worthless and I recommend that you stay away from them. So far I havent heard anything from the manufacturer/distributor here. It looked to be a good gun but it turned out to be a POS for me. If I get any response from the emails I sent I will be sure and update. For now, buyer beware.

@@Clubby81 Simmons was useless. Walther said they cleaned it and that was all it needed. BS.....if that was true it would have jammed by now. I also notice that it doesnt eject manually very well but it is working as long as I fire it. Since I got it back from Walther it has not failed other than manual ejects. It works good enough that I can sell it with a clear conscience.

Unfortunately, in my experience, Umarex makes very bad products, from co2 guns to 22 lr rifles, they are very low quaility, extremely complicated and dont last.
