For those that keep asking, the snare was bought used online from Guitar Center for $30. They said it was a "TKO" brand, but it is not. There was no badge on the drum, most likely because the air vent is missing. A viewer said it is a Tama snare, which I believe it is since Tama has the same style lugs, and they mount their badges on the air vent. So this drum is made by Tama, from my research I believe it is an old Rockstar snare, but Im probably wrong... Also, its 14"x7"

I hammered my old cheap, shitty CB700 snare and now it's my favorite snare. The hammering removed all of the ringyness and made it sound so much drier. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Saw this video 5 years after the making, but I'm impressed. I would never had thought of it and I would not do it, but I sure will buy one now. Can really hear the dryness, and you got my subscription. Also liked it when you added a 18 floor tom to you superstar set, it was very nice. Don't wanna brag about it, but the superstar was my first kit, back when they made 20 inch floor toms and I have one from 8 to 20 with wooden timbales and gong bass. Well, that was in the 80's so now you know I'm older. Thank's and keep up the good investigations.

I love this this snare - it looks exactly how I vision snares in a big kit of dark green sparkle would look. Man a metal snare hammered as you have done would be the icing on the cake. As for the duller sound - just as I like - a dark metallic 'bonk'. Great experiment - excellent video.

Most definitely a Tama!mI can tell by the lugs and the strainer. Probably around a 90's drum. This is when the high "quality" (10 lugs) low pricepoint started and this was one of the first snares that showed that!

always wondered what an oak staved barrel would sound like for a floor tom. Or any wooden drum with thicker shells. Not super thick as I think it would cut the resonance. That snare does sound a little different. Better in my opinion. And it looks like you went from 10,000 to 94,000+ subs. Congrats!

this snare diy turned out pretty pro looking to me. dried the snare out a bit. I have wanting to try hammering a 13" Mapex Black Panther nickel over brass snare for over 15 years but it would destroy the value of the very sought after snare. I wish I had an extra. I did make a diy snare from a Mapex Saturn deep 10" tom that turned out awesome and use it as a secondary snare complete with a L-rod uniball mount. I then retired a 1998 12" Mapex Black Panther Maple/Cherry snare to my collection shelf. awesome diy snare hammering video.

If the thing didn't sound so good, I might try, but its a lovely Chrome over Brass monster and SMOOTH AND SHINY AGAIN IT WILL BE!! DARNNITT!! ...Thanks for this video tho.. It's brilliant. I suppose *have no clue really* but if I were to ever do this, would picking up a heavier, ball ended Jewelers Hammer be , for some mystical reason , easier on the chrome? ..probably doens't matter but still, THANK YOU!

After reading through all of the comments I figured someone would have pointed out that hammering on a wood "anvil" is wrong it doesn't compress the metal it just deforms it hand hammering whether it be snare drum shells or cymbals is done on an anvil made of steel or iron so that it compresses the metal and work hardens it thus changing the molecular structure of the metal to give it complexity not deformity
