oh man i recited this poem in english class and wrote an essay about it in english class. the moment i read the first line, the memories came flooding back, back when the horrible stuff from 2020 wasn't a worry yet, when we could have fun with friends without worrying about high school, then college. good times.
@CeCe10662 жыл бұрын
@@HeHe-ir3we well the two phrases alone can be interpreted a bit generally. Idk I can see someone interpreting it as not giving up despite various hardships (someone with more eloquence can probably describe it better lmao). But the other lines in the og comment provide more context by describing the balance between death and life, although imo it emphasizes life through the last line “rage against the dying of the night”. It’s very clearly a poem about dying though
@ethanvanatta17292 жыл бұрын
@@HeHe-ir3we The poem was written by Dylan Thomas, for his father who was on his death bed. The lines mean (in a VERY simplified manner) “Don’t let death easily take you, continue fighting against it”. Thomas intended it as words of encouragement for his father. The name of the poem (or villanelle) is the same as the opening line, and is worth reading and dissecting each meaning. One of my favorite assignments I had in high school.
