Good solid techniques with no frills. Uke gets a bit of a tough time, but if he wasn't agreeable someone else would be picked. Being chosen as Uke is actually a bit of a privilege as it means you are trusted with your self control and to look after yourself with break falls and to tap or indicate when the technique is properly applied. You are no 'victim' of the teacher - or that guy would quickly have no students. There's a difference between pain and structural damage to the body which is why you need a good level of control - you can see the techniques are having the right effect but they stop short of choking out, smashing heads, knock outs and arm breaks so are still able to train. Good video. I see 2 guys working together to teach students techniques that will help defend themselves and not soft compliant drills that give them a false impression of violence.

I actually thought the teacher was being quite nice. He was controlled and let the uke know what was going to happen. You can't really be gentle or it just doesn't feel right when you're practising.

Very impressive, very impressive skill set, two big thumbs up, I'd love to train with this guy. Getting smacked is part of the lesson, to feel is to believe, and as you can see his uke is conditioned to take the strikes, this works for both of them, he can utilize more depth of penetration and resulting contact manipulation, and the student can condition himself to take strikes, which on the street you inevitably will receive, then switch roles. If this type of training is to intense for people then you just don't do it, find something or someone who will treat you gently, but you will regret it if you ever get into an altercation, you will be nullified by the level of violence. It all depends on what your training for, military combat, law enforcement, bouncer, personal protection or just fun and sport, you make a choice based on the afore mentioned. It always baffles me when people criticize contact in martial arts, its not bloody pottery class, its martial, martial means military, military means war, and if you are going to use it effectively you must have that mindset or the intention wont be there and you will come unstuck. Imagine joining a boxing gym and you weren't allowed to punch each other, whats the point?

Agreed. It’s all very well practicing slow and controlled but real fights aren’t like that. They’re messy, scrappy, even between people who know how to fight. You need to practice at speed and take a few hits to get it.

I saw rather harsh demonstrations on a student, with which the teacher wanted to show super-efficiency. At the same time, the student is limited in his actions - he is obliged to attack with one hand and rather slowly. But a really quick attack of several hits will show that most spectacular moves are not effective. Elements of wrestling are of little use against a heavier and stronger opponent.

He doesn't have to be black: the perception is that black is frequently viewed as villans in our society; and that is not limited to black, some whites too. We do not live in a color blind society. There are other black belts there - the instructor responded and addressed the issue respectfully and i agreed he chose him for his own legitimate reasons. The problem is you and others fears of not feeling comfortable with the question and automatically taking a defensive posture to show you couldn't handle the discussion. What? People should hide and not ask these type questions? If im a racist what are you if you breakout in attack mode. Respect people's questions and if you have a good answer give it, but if all you can do is bitch kick and scream about something real or not real, then perhaps you should let some one else with a little more intel speak on it, not you. You would escalate b/c you cant handle it. The instructor is a good man. He responded in a very mature and intelligent way. He's cool with me. I'm sorry if i offended you and intended no disrespect. I asked and got my answer. Your comment only raises hell.

Having trained like this - I'd say it's perfectly fine. The Uki has done this hundreds of times, so is used to this. The instructor is training with a partner he trusts and understands to be able to work with correctly. See how the Uki gets up fine every time. Quite honestly, TMA needs MORE of this. Hard work, hard contact. If you are always treated gently, then you learn nothing about how to deal with hard contact.

Students often underestimate how violent a fight can be so a dose of reality is important. In my view, the uke allows the teacher to use him to demonstrate the technique so that the students can repeat it. The teacher should, most times, and depending on the purpose of the exercise, give the uke a heads-up by first doing the technique slowly so he can prepare his body mentally and physically. These are violent techniques designed cause damage. The respect for each other goes both ways. The teacher must remember that the uke is moving at 1/2 speed and is in essence compliant, while the teacher may be moving at 3/4 speed with freedom of movement. If this is how every training session goes then it is abuse of the uke but if it happens intermittently to introduce a dose of reality then it is acceptable.

Even the class itself their was no real conditioning etc.... My dear old man did Karate for several years and kept telling me to change the style. @MARK WALKER . The style itself called TYGA Karate. The style itself is very very poor. The chief instructor does not teach anything correct! He just dishes out black belts like no bodys business. He "claims to be the best". His grading systems are very expensive! You pay £1000+ to go on a weekend course to grade. I trained his style of Karate for many years 6,he has his pupils like a string of puppets. My Dad used to advise me and tell me this guy is no Karate practioner.... Eventually I woke up and smelt the coffee and changed system&style. I realised what real hard training M.A is. I obtained my 1st degree black sash (,PHOR KUNE KUNG FU). The workout was very vigrious and intense.

@MARK WALKER They taught us real training not like this Mickey Mouse training. Our kung fu style was very reasonable £7+ for at least 2.5hr on a Wed&2.5-3hr on Sun. Gradings was reasonably priced. Our Sifu's&Grandmaster(Jeremy Chin) and still is is a real nice genuine person! These teachers teach us discipline,respect,hard training and had time for you and generally cared for your welfare. But this TYGA guy.... Forget it! In Aug 2002 there was a 10k cash prize Karate tournament in The Mermaid Theatre London. The "so called best fighter" lost in the 1st round. You can see it on you tube 10k Karate 2002 Tony Leslie.

If we are talking about practical self defence/protection (avoidance and doing the bare minimum to be less of a victim and escape) and not ‘fighting’ which is essentially consensual combat under a particular rule set and rounds. A lot of things taught in traditional martial arts intended for actual self protection including Japanese Jujitsu can be effective but it wouldn’t be for sport or live sparring e.g. eye gouging, eye jabs, striking the front or back of the neck and groin kicks. The problem is having a bad or uneducated teacher who is not qualified to teach self defence and having no resistance training. P.s Many traditional martial artists are usually better of supplementing their martial art with good boxing or kickboxing training in this day an age to know how to handle punches and proper resistance; and also learn how to keep their chin down.

Training and teaching is a multitude... You can 'kata' by repeatedly practice solo or sparring techniques. You can speed up and you can increase tension and pressure. But you can never bash your student. You should never diminish or in any other way demean any individual in public life. This is a rule of decency in general, and certainly, in particular, in a dojo. Even worse when the 'dojo' is a public space. In my opinion, this 'uke' was treated too roughly. You can be rough, if only you have a heart and a concession. I doubt this is what we saw.

No, it's not "Jiu Jitsu". There's no such thing as Jiu jitsu. Jiu jitsu is a bastardized and incorrect word for judo. The Brazilians learned Kadokan Judo, removed some (effective) techniques, focused on randori and added strikes. Adding strikes to a sport art (do) does not make it jujutsu. This is basic Japanese jujutsu shown in the video. Japanese jujutsu does not focus on striking. Strikes are used as reactionary devices to set up real effective techniques. Sport arts are vastly different from combat arts, the majority of people don't understand.

Would fleece you left right and center for outdoor courses that paid upto £1,000(perhaps more) to obtain your belt,no morals or eithics in this style of Karate. Please pressure test on people who know how to fight when you don’t know what’s coming. Not on some mamaluke ukes who feed you exactly what you expect when and how you expect it.

When are they going to show this stuff at real time, without the choreography? These techniques look great when the instructor knows what's coming and the "attacker" is not showing aggression or resistance.
@willywaggle65112 жыл бұрын
In competitions you do it in real time and then the uki attacks you with a random attack and you just have to do the first thing that pops up in your head... this was just training for the student's.

This is fantastic in every aspect apart from two things, the punches being thrown are a traditional karate style with a step through straight punch usually done in lines. Whenever seen anybody attack like that Secondly he is going to the ground with him. Not good where multiple attackers may occur

because of what People expect. Martial art is not the answer of everything. And if you are into martial art then you should also understand my question. Sometimes a question just make People think more. It´s not all about me buddy

'because of what people expect'? . . . people 'expect' you to be posting on here? :-/ I never said Martial Arts were the answer to everything, no one did, and this is NOT a legit response to my question 'why are you here in you're not into martial arts?' not even YOU understand your question - who said it _was_ 'all about you'? :-/

Looks good and effective no question there but this is bordering on abuse of your student. There is no need for that extent of force when demonstrating repeatedly unless you’re showing off. There is a fine line between training and demonstrating efficacy and just being a bully during training. Anyone can become one and this looks dangerously close to me.
@jeanrusso38222 жыл бұрын
Well said!!! at 06:09 mins it's quite obvious he was hurting the student. He is just being a bully and a show off to his other students.

If this is ju jitsu, then he should stick to that martial art. Don't add any striking, because as soon as you do it becomes wrong. street fighters don't move like that, they don't step and punch; and they don't kick. MMA or muay thai are very effective sport martial arts that can be used on the streets because they cover a lot of situations that can happen outside the training hall.

Original Jujitsu included strikes, kicks, chokes and weapons. Do your research on the original combat art and not the new age crap.

@@adammurphy2958 The statement I made stands.What ShareMoments.ShareLife said is new age crap. Does no one research the original fighting art. I doubt he has been in many fights at all. "If this is ju jitsu, then he should stick to that martial art. Don't add any striking, because as soon as you do it becomes wrong. street fighters don't move like that, they don't step and punch; and they don't kick." They don't kick or punch yeah right. "MMA or muay thai are very effective sport martial arts that can be used on the streets because they cover a lot of situations that can happen outside the training hall." This is a statement from someone who knows nothing about Ju Jitsu at all. We can debate the differences of different Martial Arts and whether they are "Sport" or Combat". We can debate if "Kata" is good for anything. But to watch a video and make the comments he did is just ignorant, period. If you know nothing of that style educate your self. If anyone thinks that MMA and Muay Thai is the only effective fighting style to "deal with situations that can happen outside the training hall" then this person is going to get a rude awakening.

Japanese jujitsu was developed for samurais to defeat fighters in armour. Traditional Japanese martial arts are very explosive. Judo, explosive takedowns. Jujitsu explosive strikes and take downs. Iaido, the explosive sword technique where you don’t sword fight but you cut straight from the draw, basically what the samurai practiced.

These Japanese jiujitsu instructors love bullying an uke, meanwhile they’re absolutely terrified of sparring or competing with anyone. If they went to an mma school or bjj gym they’d get filled in by the white belts

The reason for this it isn’t his race but it was because he’d been doing the martial art for 5+ years so he was used to pain where as if he did it to someone like you it would be more painful meaning he wouldn’t be able to show it for longer
