What a gift to the world, Mr. Belafonte. You brought the protest songs of Calypso to the world stage and subsequently brought global folk music from diverse geographies, to the world. Such deep personal and emotional intelligence must have inspired you. Thank you. Rest peacefully. You have served well.❤

A song about getting old. September, autumn, is when we say goodbye to youth forever. You think you're old, but when you enter winter, close to the end of life, it's good to look back at when you were younger.

I haven't heard this song for so long. It's certainly a pleasure to hear it again after some 25 odd years. Now that I am in the autumn of my life, this song certainly has a lot more meaning. God bless everyone who had the great fortune of growing up with such great singers as Belafonte, Sinatra, Beatles, Elvis, Streisand, ABBA, etc.

Probably my favorite singer of all time. My late dad had three of his albums in the early 1960’s and I have been listening to him since I was10; I am now 64. I do prefer his elegant, restrained style of this period of his life and career. As he aged, and his stardom grew, his stage style became more produced and his voice heavier and raspier. The young Belafonte was one of a kind, and so versatile.

LYRICS: Try to remember the kind of September When life was slow and oh so mellow Try to remember the kind of September When grass was green and grain was yellow Try to remember the kind of September When you were a tender and callow fellow Try to remember and if you remember then follow Follow Try to remember when life was so tender When noone wept except the willow Try to remember when life was so tender When dreams were kept beside your pillow Try to remember when life was so tender When love was an ember about to billow Try to remember and if you remember then follow Follow Deep in December it's nice to remember Although you know the snow will follow Deep in December it's nice to remember Without a hurt the heart will hollow Deep in December It's nice to remember The fire of September that made you mellow Deep in December our hearts should remember and follow Follow
