Hartung Family Farms is a farming operation out of Jackson and Clinton County Iowa, with our main farm located in Preston Iowa. We have around 2400 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, rye, and oats as well as around 750 head of cattle. So many just don’t understand deer driving. The camera is a different perspective than in reality. You know exactly where everyone is at all times and when it’s safe to shoot. Unless you have experienced it I wouldn’t expect you to understand it from a video. Great hunts Ron!🦌🙏

I've been on hundreds of deer drives, like I said previously, u try to be safe as possible....but u cannot control every1. Adrenaline/excitement effects some more than others, not all drivers are as vocal as other etc....shit will happen, at the end of the day, it's pretty rare some1 gets hurt

Western NY we have more wooded ,brush areas, farm land inbetween pretty much. I ve been watching all the drives, what surprises me no one's hides, pretty much standing in the wide open. Deer pic you out like right away pretty much.

This is addressed to the hunter that shot the button buck and felt it wasn't a deer to be proud of. Fact ,smaller targets are harder to hit than big targets, so that makes you a superior marksman ! fact , smaller deer are way easier to drag out of the woods than big ones, so that means you hunt smarter ! fact smaller deer are more tender, more tasty and take up less space in the freezer ! We did drives in VA when I was a teenager. It is FUN, but those drives up in the mountains will wear a young man out. I'm not a young man anymore.

I'm guessing someone has already suggested this in a previous comment but something we do in our deer drives up in Wisconsin is give everyone a walkie talkie. It's a great way for pushers to give a heads up to blockers if there are deer heading a specific direction and overall is a massive help in knowing what's happening during a drive (ie. who shot at what, when pushers are starting a new section of woods, etc.) Can't recommend them enough.

You eastern boys have some nice bucks, probably good table fare. Just wanted to let you know, a whitetail isn't a pimple on a mule deers arse. Tree stand? I hear you eastern boys like tree stands that seat 2, you guys can stay toasty warm that way while you wait for the deer to come to your clover plot, laced with camera deer😂

Nice video but safety first. That first doe that you said was shot running down towards the road, i dont think it was a safe shooting zone. Looks like a road with incoming vechiles. Good video but Stay safe and be wise where the gun is pointing.

9:06 I wish it was like that in Ohio but no if the landowner says you can't go you can't go and that sucks because this year I shot a huge buck and it went on the adjacent property and I called The Game Warden and he said if the landowner says no not even God can go.....🤬

I don’t agree with shooting at a skylined deer, like I thought I saw, but why do people think it’s wrong to shoot at a running deer? Why no coyotes when blocking? Your thick stuff looks like where I’m hunting this year and have seen a lot. But we don’t drive. Not big enough property and I’d rather sit or walk on my own. Nothing wrong with drives. Just don’t have the place for it and it’s awful hilly. It would kill me. Didn’t know Iowa doesn’t have a rifle season.

We've had CWD for years here in Pennsylvania and we still eat the meat. So idk why you had to waste all that meat. And think about it. You took that to a dump the predator will eat it and spred it back around.

Having hunted from still hunting, to dog hunting, to man drives - I’ll be happy to just stay home and drink my coffee than to ever participate in a drive style hunt again. The year after I left the one club bc of their lack of safety and caliber of members, they had two separate members shot by other members on the same property on back to back days. Needless to say the Game Wardens didn’t find it funny. Thankfully - both only had buckshot removed from their backsides. I’ve been zinged by ricochet and Spaulding on an approved range with range safety officers. It’s a reminder that even being as safe as possible bad stuff can happen. The one safety factor I was always taught by old timer Pa hunters - drivers never carried a firearm, constantly voice and visual verify with your line/blocks and too much can go wrong going thru briars with a loaded gun. Safety can get knocked into fire. Actions can be caught chambering a round. Triggers can get caught. I have no problems with anyone enjoying their hunting style, but just use safety measures and proper firearm cardinal rules. If I had a quarter for every rookie that let one lose into their locker thinking it was an empty weapon - I’d be a rich man.

This just seems wrong to me. Have no problem w fillin a freezer. And I’m not being mean. Comin from a guy who sits in a tree for hours after puttin in the work.. throwing a holographic on a 12ga and runnin up on deer or doin drives just seems fucked up. Imagine gettin woken up, ran out your house, only to be shot in the front yard by you. They just don’t stand a chance is all..

Do farmers/ranchers chase their cows before they slaughter them? This is by far the dumbest and dangerous way to harvest a deer. And for the all "family" and "tradition" of deer drives.. did the people that started these tradition have $80,000 pickups ? $1,400 iphones? $400 Gopros? No, they did deer drives because they survived and lived off of venison. Times change. Get some patients and sit.. deer taste better after harvest.. not being chased or pursued and harvested cleanly bleeding out, like cows do at slaughter and not bleeding internally.
