I really hate the Chinese Whisper analogy. Because the game works like this 1) you can only whisper, so no one can hear you loud and clear 2) you can only say it ONCE , so there is no room for error 3) you can only say to one person, so he can't afford to make a mistake 4) you're not allowed to directly go to the first person and hear it from him This is a game specifically designed to corrupt messages. Why on earth should we use this as an analogy to explain message transmission in real life when message transmission in real life doesn't work like this at all!!! The Apostles proclaimed the Gospel loud and clear in public. They did not whisper They repeated the message as many time was needed They preached to masses, so if one heard it wrong the rest could correct him And people were free to directly hear the message from them first hand. The fact that they didn't whisper in silence and secret is what got them in trouble with everyone and eventually killed.

With people like Bart, you simply have to read and trust your Bible. An atheist is supposedly someone who believes God doesn't exist. But the Bible tells us that there is not such person in Romans 1:18-23. It tells us that God has been revealed to everyone, but due to their sin, they try to suppress their knowledge of him. They're suffering from sin, like any other disease and we should pray for them.

He then told us that he had a class where a handful of students combined their notes at the end of the semester to study for the final exam, and when he looked at their notes, they were almost identical to his own notes. @@O_tropos that's St.Paul writing to a young pastor named Timothy. His point is NOT TO EXCLUDE Gentiles because the Jews understood the Shema commandment of loving your neighbour to mean only Jewish neighbour's. The Way began as an outreach to jews and so Paul commonly went to synagogue to evangelize jews but as St Luke writes in Acts 13:47,48 Paul also preached to Gentiles and it was well received, many believed. St Paul writes in Romans 1:16 that the gospel is the Power of God 'to everyone who believes' not 'to everyone without exception.' So the answer to your question is a qualified "Yes God's plan to save every one "He chose before the foundation of the world"(eph 1:4) will be accomplished. The gospel is sufficient for all but EFFICIENT for some. ( see Aristotle's breakdown for "Law of Causation" for an analogous schematic) Remember your straw man reference is 1 Tim 2:4 ( a general desire with particularity in purpose) is the same St Paul whose last letter ( to the Romans) is much clearer in 9:22,23 as to God's specific purposes : " What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and willing to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?(23) And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory." Inadvertently you used a preconceived assumption with a vague reference against a writer who was Very clear in a later writing. Paul against Paul isn't a valid arguement because Paul was consistent in affirming God as the Originator of Merciful predestination ( Romans 8:28b,29). Paul credits God as the sole actor in Salvation. Ephesians 1:4, Ephesians 2:8,9, 2 Cor 5:21 and Romans 5:1. Jesus says in John's gospel " No one CAN come to Me, except the Father Who sent Me, draws him and I will raise Him up on the last day." 6:44. Also consider John 17:v.9 and v.12 God has perfectly succeeded in His plan of salvation because He did it all. ("But of God" jn 1:13)

The difference between telephone and Oral Tradition is that the stories were told over and over in an open setting where many people hear what was being communicated, not whispered to one person. For example the Gospel of Mark was written by one of St. Peter's traveling companion, so as Peter went from town to town, Mark heard the stories over and over. Plus when he wrote down what he heard he could have St. Peter check to see if it was accurate. In addition, very few people knew how to read and write until recent history, so the entire worldwide culture was an oral culture. This type of communication is MORE precise because the written word does not convey context or emphasis, whereas when someone says something to you, you can hear what they are emphasizing AND if you are unclear about what is being said you can ask the person delivering the message.

yes.. and we know through folktales collected by folklorists hundreds of years ago that the tellers would memorize the tables word for word. People that never met each other would know the tales word for word the same way. The telephone game is a bad example too becaue I've seen it played a whole bunch of times and I always suspect people know what the game is and exaggerate the mistakes for fun. I've watched kids play the game and they do it on purpose and all the kids laugh. If hey are careful and don't trill the game it's fine.

Someone could say that you might also be ignorant about how fallible the human brain is when it comes to memory and the comprehension/ interpretation of information. Just because they might've rehearsed it over and over doesn't mean that everyone will tell it the exact way it was given to them.

But people need to understand that this isn’t the “game” of telephone. If someone tells you something you aren’t bound by the rules of “telephone” you can go and verify what they have said if the original person is still alive or if someone who knew them is still alive as the Apostles would have been early on when the texts were written. And if something was incorrect then the Apostles would have noted this and corrected it then. And we most likely would have a record of that correction too.

You're also missing the point between information being exchanged between two people and information being exchanged between hundreds or thousands of people over generations. There's no "system of checks" that you're wanting to believe is there to back up your beliefs, as there's no way to verify who is correct between the people who heard one bit of information vs the people who heard another, just like the many denominations of Christianity who all believe different things about the same piece of literature they can read with their own eyes, and you think that hundreds or thousands of people can perfectly keep and pass along an unwritten piece of information over thousands of years? Lol. I hope you learn the difference between belief and reality soon, because it's apparent that your beliefs are dictating your reality.

This is very useful for dealing with Islam which contends that our scriptures have been corrupted to cover the fact that the Qur’an confirms our scriptures even though they contradict the Qur’an. They can’t conclude that the Qur’an is therefore wrong, so they assert that the Bible has been corrupted.
@Gleichtritt

When a muslim says the bible has been corrupted, you need to just ask "when, why and by whom". They will tell you it was the jews, but that doesn't make sense, because they would never portrait Jesus as the messiah. And with the scriptures found in Qumran, there is authentic scriptures of the old testamony, dating back at least 400BC - everything still the exact same wording as in the Masoretic text. The quran on the other side existed in many versions until some sultan decided to burn all versions but one and declare that THE true quran. Muslims don't know their history, because they rely on unproven claims. Islam is a deeply unscientific community completely parallel to the rest of the world.

The problem with the reading at the beginning is that it wasn’t whispered words. Jesus preached to thousands of people. He appeared to over 500 people after his death. Luke didn’t make up anything in his book, it was all eyewitness testimony that he felt confident enough to share with Theophilus. He went into excessive detail. Matthew, Mark, and John all wrote their books with their own experience or the experience of others. Each one differs because it was written to a specific group of people, just as Matthew was written to a Jewish audience. If Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible it probably wasn’t just an oral tradition that was passed down, God spoke with him openly all the time. They met together all the time. He could have told him at any time. They weren’t actual assembled books though, they would have just been scrolls through the majority of the existence of the Old Testament. Some well preserved like the Dead Sea scrolls, some not well preserved that aged and gradually fell apart like an old Bible will even with our modern books.

Telling him to take complete control and to truly show me the truth. The more I asked, the more he convicted me to read scripture. My thoughts were convicted to read scripture and research online, to understand the truth. Today I’m convicted by my sins, hating my flesh, and devoted to god. I’m not perfect and stumble. Every qualification in that sentence is important…nor does it include what must be a vast quantity of trivial spelling differences.” (p. 9)

This only means that the apostasy was accurately conveyed from one person to the other. Additionally, orally repeating the scripture was only as accurate (truthful) is the scripture being passed. The oral tradition (Rabbinic tradition) was never sanctioned by God. It is quite clear in Torah that all scripture was given directly from God and written by Moses. Oral additions were the works of Pharisees and other sects which changed the meaning of the Torah. For this reason Jesus hated the Pharisees and the Sadducees and their law which was not the law of Moses but the law of men. This really reminds me of the heresy of Rome.

When I started reading the Bible at 6 years old 56 years ago, especially the words of Christ, I was struck by the authentic, and authoritative nature of all that was in red. Not once did I find a passage in red that did not hit me with Divine Power, and Truth. I cannot understand how anyone could question the veracity of all the supernaturally amazing word that Christ Jesus spoke. I can see where many would not perceive the full measure of the context which He spoke, but with cross referencing it can be understood. I would challenge anyone to read all the words of Jesus, and find anything that could be determined as inaccurate. misunderstood, or painful to accept, maybe, but inaccurate no.

Take the telephone game right, I stead of whispering in the next person's ear have the first person write the message down on a piece of paper. Then have every following person copy the message on the same piece of paper.

When people give me this argument, I ask "What if I could show you an expert who refutes this, would you believe it and change your mind?". Most slink away and do not research it for validity.

How is it that people can’t understand that the God that spoke the world Into existence could easily make sure that his word stays intact… it’s a very simple explanation that makes complete sense. If Jesus wanted people to be able to read Gods word then he would make sure it’s complete and unscaved

Interestingly enough Alex O'Connor debated Dinesh and was pointing out some inconsistencies within scripture but this video really helps us understand that the nature of the inconsistencies is what really matters, and that the essential message has been preserved, you should check out that video.
