In the Hatfield 20 Gauge SAS Review video, Neal opens the box, reviews the shotgun, shoots it, and shares his thoughts about the gun. Will the gun operate flawlessly or will it hang and jam like many others? See for yourself how the gun functions and make our own conclusions. For $239 is it worth owning or is it an expensive decoy weight?

Got one when they first came out at Walmart paid 165 bucks. I use mine for Turkey and duck hunting and I cleaned and oiled mine out of the box like I do with any new firearm I buy. I never had a single problem with mine. Cycled on every shell fired. Side note it is actually manufactured by kimber and uses a Benelli invector thread chokes. I actually talked to a engineer from Hatfield to get information about it because it don’t mention anything in the instruction booklet that comes with the shotgun. But I give it a 9 out of 10 in quality and a 10 out of 10 for performance.

Mine still gives me some problems but I think in time it will work itself out. For the investment, I'm happy. Thanks Dennis.

There are a lot of shotguns that will not function properly right out of the box like yours. The one thing no one seems to do is clean and oil them even when it's new. Take the shipping grease and oil off, and lubricate all the moving parts, then take it out and shoot it. Don't shoot it first and then clean and oil it, clean/oil it first. Then go shoot it. The 20 ga guns usually don't have any issues. Most will break in around 2 boxes later. Then clean and oil again to remove any metal particles.

You're right, many don't do the things they should first before taking a weapon out into the field. I cleaned the gun thoroughly and oiled it then sat in the living room and cycled the action about 500 times before taking it out to shoot it. Unfortunately, it stilled jammed. I think you're right though that after a few boxes of shells, especially heavy loads, it will likely function properly. Thanks for watching and for your suggestions. Merry Christmas.

I have one In 28 gauge at first it’s not functioning well but I know a person that bought a fab arm $1800 shotgun he wasn’t very pleased with it because it done the same thing, they need broken in . I think after used a while it will be fine, for the money you can’t beat them. If you look at your major gun companies most are getting a lot of their lower end shotguns from Turkey and they basically look the same as the cheaper ones but a higher price. In turkey as I understand there’s only two plants that make them but they do make some really high end guns so they know how to make shotguns.The main thing clean them well they are very dirty completely disassemble and oil them up good and keep them oiled during break in. I wouldn’t expect many of them to run very well until cleaned and broken in.

Yeah the 20 gauge is really touchy on ammo. Light rounds just don't work until they're super broke in

I'm taking my SAS 20 gauge out in the next few days to test it after polishing everything inside. I'll give everyone an update (new video) IF it works correctly.

I have a 12 with a little over 5k threw it and after the first 25 it has been flawless. I also have a 28 gauge with just over 4k threw it and has been flawless since the first shot. I shot trap a lot and I mean a lot lol. It is not a Stoeger but they work good.

I took mine apart and polished every moving part inside. I've yet to take it back out and shoot it but it seems that all the action works great now. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with your guns.

The higher velocity rounds help this semi auto alot. But slugs will beat it pretty hard.

I also have that shotgun Am I able to shoot slugs through a modified choke on it
@ReturningtoBasics
@ReturningtoBasics 5 ай бұрын
Yes. According to what I have read, you can shoot slugs even through a full choke although I would not. I recommend a cylinder or improved cylinder choke for slugs. Even better would be to get a rifled slug choke for your gun.

Does the 20 come with heavy and light rings to adjust the gas piston for different loads like the 12 gauge has?
@ReturningtoBasics

I don't know. If it does, that may solve the problem with it hanging. Thanks for the question and information. I really appreciate it. Also, thanks for watching.

No, the 20 ga only has the one piston, and they usually function very good.

Charles, I disassembled mine, took my Dremil tool and polished every working part in the receiver. I cleaned and oiled it and then reassembled the gun. I started working the bolt back and forth about 100 times and then I would rest. I did this until I had about 1000 actions of the bolt. Mine would hang when the shell shelf from the magazine was trying to come up. I took a screwdriver handle and pushed the shelf/lever up a little (with not too much force to prevent bending it or breaking anything) to make sure it had no obscruction. I started working the bolt back and forth again for a few hundred actions. Finally, mine seems to be working without any hint of obscruction, hesistation, or hanging. I can't get out of the house now because I've broken my heel, but when I can I will be shooting the gun again. If it works with all different types of ammo I will be posting a follow-up video explaining what I did. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't yet.

Thanks for helping me out cant wait to see the viedo. I pray all gets better soon. I will

Thanks Charles. Since your original post I've probably worked my gun's action about 1000 more times. It seems to be working flawlessly. I haven't had time or opportunity to get it out and shoot. Hopefully it will work though. I have enough money to buy a much better shotgun but I wanted one I could not worry about hurting because of the price. I'm hoping this one will finally smooth out.

4 hundred and 10 gauge - it's called a "4-ten" and it is not a shotgun gauge.

Yes, it's .410 bore, you're right - and really it's my favorite shotgun. I got a single shot one when I was 11. When I married my wife brought with her a great little pump. Soon afterwards she forbid me from using her gun because I left her home so I had to purchase one for myself. I bought a great little pump also. As I mentioned in the video, I really wanted a semi-automatic but the Hatfield just wouldn't operate properly so I had them exchange it for a 20 gauge. It's not really what I wanted but what I was willing to take in order to get an operational gun. Thanks for the comment. You obviously know your shotguns. I hope you have a great fall in the woods.

My advice is when you get the gun before you do anything disassemble it clean all the shavings out of it knock all the birds off with a fall and it might work not sure then how good luck mine but if I was going to get another one I would follow the procedure clean it up and getting all the bars out replace the little round pin in there that always shares
