It was still a bad idea for him to go after Velma. At that point Velma was considered Freddy's girl just as much as Daphne...although Daphne was also implied to have been Shaggy's gal too since she's the only one of the serious trio who actually likes Scrappy.

I love how the show is basically commentary on how *NOT* to treat women and how its portrayed in a way where kids can enjoyed the slapstick and the adults can enjoy the humor and dialogue. @esperfire3779
@esperfire3779 4 ай бұрын
But they're fine with acknowledging Cow & Chicken? Not saying your reasoning is wrong, but that really feels like a double standard if true. I think it has less to do with the adult jokes, and more to do with Johnny's endless pursuit of women being viewed as objectification. Funny thing being, the whole point of the show is that he is consistently punished for that behavior, and the women themselves are usually the ones doing the punishing. If anything, the show was a bit ahead of its time in that regard, as the women in it are empowered and can take care of horndogs like Johnny by themselves easily.

The fact that the network won't acknowledge that it existed is dumb af. Johnny's implied views and opinions are outdated and misogynistic, but the show itself goes out of it's way to reprimand and punish him for it! Just goes to show that media literacy is truly dead.
@mightyfilm

If that's the reason, I call bullshit. They use Pepe Le Pew in Boomerang's LT promotions and folded his cartoons back into their for kids Looney Tunes block. The difference between Pepe and Johnny is that Johnny gets comeuppance when he tries to hit on women. Why that is considered the no-no only comes off hypocritical. Maybe if we whine endlessly about it. You know like the 50-somethings that watched LT when they were kids and NEVER again. The ones who heard about his scene getting cut from Space Jam 2 through the media's insufferable game of telephone that lost all the details. Maybe if we're that insufferable, we'll have nothing BUT Johnny Bravo cartoons on the network.

I always find it funny that this is considered by some to have not aged well because the entire joke of JB to me is the dichotomy between a naive moronic guy whose headspace is still trapped in the 50s-70s living in the modern world where his idea of romance/general etiquette is already considered outdated itself. I think the series really deserves credit for making a character with so few redeemable qualities yet still so lovable and entertaining for so many people, I think that's why you don't see him getting outwardly lambasted the same way a character like Pepe Le Pew has (though even in that case, it comes across as simply people not being privy to a very basic joke). Also wanted to note, Johnny Bravo actually appears as a silent cameo in Teen Titans Go's WB 100th Anniversary Special, which is pretty cool to see him acknowledged but also really annoying that he didn't get any lines especially because Jeff Bennett himself has a voice role in the episode!

@casanovafunkenstein5090
@casanovafunkenstein5090 4 ай бұрын
True, but I think that the issue is moreso that his persona is very imitable, so the concern is that a young audience will copy the behaviour without really knowing the context. I'm not saying that it's a credible thing to be worried about, as I can't imagine a bunch of small boys thinking that behaving like that would have better results than on the show, but TV networks underestimating the intelligence of children is nothing new. The show would probably do alright if they did something along the lines of the new X Men cartoon and just made the exact same show for an adult audience (provided that they don't go out of their way to add edgy content on the grounds that it's a show for adults now. Johnny Bravo doesn't need to have a shift in tone or an increase in the raunchiness of the humour to work. It's already fine as is and there's enough room for the show to explore some more mature ideas without it becoming a mean spirited show that adds swearing, substance abuse and overly sexualised female characters.)

Nothing like this will ever be "reimagined", and thank God the talentless hacks in charge of the industry have zero motivation to posthumously destroy the memory of this classic.

Something that I loved about the Johnny Bravo cartoon, is that its Latin American Spanish dub, especially in the second and third seasons, added tons of regional (mainly from Mexico) jokes that weren't on the original, that was something that other shows from CN from that era used to do a lot, particularly in other shows like KND and Ed, Edd 'n Eddy. I remember a joke from an episode where Johnny accidentally hijacked a train where he demanded to watch CN shows for free on TV, don't know if that joke was in the English version as well, but in LA Spanish it was funnier because Johnny and I am Weasel share the same VA, Víctor Hugo Aguilar

Johnny Bravo was always one of my top 5 Cartoon Cartoons, alongside Dexter, PPG, Ed Edd n' Eddy, and KND. I know this'll probably sound blasphemous, but I personally preferred the middle seasons compared to the first and last seasons, not that they were bad, mind you. Whether CN wants to admit it or not, this was one of their most iconic shows.

I recall an interview with Chuck Jones, I believe on NPR, where he recounted that early in his career, he was explicitly forbidden from doing smear animation, as it was seen as a trick of low budget animation studios, used to save money. So Chuck rebelliously started to experiment with it, and found that it added to the language of animation. It allowed cartoon characters to have a level of mobility that was not simply mimicking real life motion, but instead, was surpassing it. A major result of this was the timelessly iconic frantic chase animation that instantly became one of the trademarks of the Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons. Come to think of it, WB really oughta make a decent Wile E. Coyote theatrical film. Oh...wait...oh no...

I enjoyed this goofball of a man. He shows the best of humanity and comedy. It sucks to find out what happened to him during Johnny Bravo but I'm glad he got back to doing what he was passionate about. He clearly knew what he wanted for his show. (I guess that’s why season 1 only got the hall of fame.) My favorites were the holiday specials and at one point it was one of theirs too. From showing the love for one another to how much of a kid he truly is. But I distinctly remember when we had cable an seen JB AN THE EDDS Valentine’s Day special and bumper I fell in love with that episode. To this day I remember watching it only once on CN and just looking back last year it’s still one of my favorites. I’m truly glad JB got his own movie and in the hour timeframe (Classic) and I hope to see it in the near future. Just wish they aired it in America. Plus it was interesting to see behind the vail. Both the staff and samurai Jack. lol classic bumper. Hopefully one day we will get our ultimate series box set on dvd/bluray.

The modern impression of Johnny Bravo has the same issue that Pepe Le Peau has. The misinterpretation of him being someone to look up to. With both cartoons, the joke wasn't "look at this stud" but "look at this idiot who *thinks* he's a stud". Though Johnny has the added benefit of genuinely being a good person, whereas Pepe was mostly one-dimensional.

It's too bad Van just erased Carl and Pops from the show. It would be cool see these characters now being written by Van. I did think the new writers did a better job in adding new supporting characters to a popular show, unlike a show like Fairly Odd Parents (with characters like Poof and.....you know lets not even bring the rest up).
@Superlad9494
@Superlad9494 4 ай бұрын
Well...Poof wasn't that bad, neither was Foop. Those additions made sense...I mean Timmy wishing for a baby sibling was going to happen at some point, and if Poof is a thing, so must Foop be as for every fairy there is an Anti-Fairy. They should have stopped after Meet The Oddparents or at least have had an alternate ending where the golfball didn't rat out Mr. Turner. At least it seems like Mrs. Turner wanted to try to connect to Timmy, but couldn't quite manage it somehow.

My head cannon for Van Partible's name goes like this... His parents, freshly arrived in America, needed to write their sons name on some immigration forms, but it had to be written in English. So in sitcom cartoon fashion, they looked around and saw a beater vehicle with a For Sale sign that said "Van - Partable." And the rest was history.

But in this instance I actually mean that. And I totally believe u will hit big numbers. Its always evident all the work u put into stuff. And from an old wanna be cartoonist I thank u very much. I remember back watching this stuff new and loving it. Then art style changed. Or voice actor change...lots stuff would happen that u couldn't readily find out like today. And then when u could I totally forgot about so much. But u remind me about those questions and then answer them. And not just in this video. But all of yours. Your channel is the only 1 I have notifications for. Ive even started drawing again some. And after all these yrs and the use and advancements of the internet I don't put any pressure on myself to come up with some original characters. Which is just a weird way of saying I'm old. Johnny Bravo simply wasn't outdated. It was ahead of its tim, really. Like, buff, muscular, self made dude who is overt about his interests in women but when it comes right down to it he is actually a bit of a sweetheart? Aside from being jobless, he's sorta've a role model. His only real downsides are how he tries to flirt by mimicking the things he has seen and being a little too overconfident, but he is far from a bad guy. I feel like he got canned and silenced mostly because of PERCEIVED sexism... Which, to be frank, is incredibly common nowadays.
