Weird things I noticed about The Goode Family is that the Drawn Together creators, Matt Silverstein & Dave Jeser, were writers AND executive producers in it. Another odd name I saw is Jordana Arkin, who would then go on to...co-develop Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil? Huh.

ABC's biggest problem was that they didn't understand people liked watching animation in blocks. Saturday Matinee, Saturday Mornings, even in Japan there's an Anime time block. They thought one cartoon could work, because the Simpsons did. But the Simpsons has always been an anomaly.

Also I don't know why but this is the 2nd video tonight that KZfaq has recommended me that talks about Capitol Critters. When it comes to Kevin Smith movies I remember liking MallRats, though that was also a long time ago when I was a teenager. I have not gone back to see if it holds up. Maybe give it a shot ? I think it's on that streaming service that is two words, starts with an A and ends with ime. (YT seriously deletes comments that mention that service). Also The Critic... It stinks ! Actually, I love that show.

Favorite ABC Adult animated series. 1. The Critic 2. Capitol Critters 3. The Clerks animated series BTW: My favorite of the Capitol Critters is Muggle, mainly because I'm a fan of his voice actor, Bobcat Goldthwait. My least favorite is Jammit because he reminds me too much of my one of my older brothers. Edit: The Critic is also a good show. I'm sort of neurotic and I'm a TV/ movie reviewer like Jay Sherman, but when it comes to movies and shows I don't like I don't go "It Stinks" I just say "this wasn't for me, but it might be good for someone else". Edit 2: I still wish there was a third season, especially if there was an episode where Jay Sherman finds his birth parents. I know that cant happen because half of the voice actors have passed. Still dare to dream

Out of all the shows you’ve talked about on this vid, the Critic is the one I’ve seen the most. Back in my early internet days I had heard people talk about it and seen clips here and there, including IGN who put it on their top 100 cartoon list long ago. I do agree the show can be alittle too mean spirited, heck the first ep almost made me rethink about watching it further but I ended up watching the first ep of S2 next which while I didn’t get back to it right away did keep my interest. I still occasionally watch compilation vids of the movie parodies here and there, heck sometimes I use them to encourage me to watch the actual films lol. One change that I thought was interesting about S2 was Jay’s sis who looks almost completely different. I honestly thought she looked cuter with the S2 design. It’s really too bad about the whole drama around the Simpsons crossover because the ep itself I actually liked, was it alittle too focused on Jay, maybe but still had the same charm a normal Simpsons ep had. What’s really funny about the Siskel and Ebert guest appearance is that they actually reviewed a few eps when it was still on it’s first season and didn’t really like it from what I remember so them showing up in S2 is so ironic. 😂 As for webisodes….yeah I understand while fans don’t really like talking about them. Not just because of the new love interest, just to me it didn’t always seem right.

Long long ago I just happened to be a young boy watching ABC late one weekend night, saw the first aired episode of clerks. It was so funny to me. Then I never saw anymore, but it stuck with me hard. Then we got a cable internet connection, and when I discovered I could download videos I ended up looking up clerks and not only did I find the cartoon, there was a black and white movie. Which I watched repeatedly. Since then Kevin Smith had a lifelong dmdan who has since paid him lots of money on ticket sales and merch.

There’s a novelty to this era of adult animation that is unmatched. Not all these shows are winners, but it’s so cool seeing so many networks trying to throw things at the wall see what would stick, I love eras of experimentation because it gives us so many things to look at and appreciate the intentions of. You have outdone yourself, I was present and accounted for when these shows were intinally airing. I wasn’t aware too much of Capitol Critters and would easily mistake it for something for children, as a HB property, it could get an early AS treatment and become a bit more than what it's trying to be. Clerks Tas: I was introduced to Kevin Smith's work during an airing of Mallrats on ABC in summer of 98 and later, I was a bit stoked for a new prime time cartoon with Clerks, I did watch the 2 episodes which aired and was eagerly awaiting ep. 3, in hindsight, I wish they stucked to UPN instead, I did get the DVD set and it was something special, I was introduced to the idea of character designs, storyboarding, anamantics, every BTS treat imaginable. The Goode family: I was a fan of Judge's Beavis and Butthead and was slowly losing interest in King of the hill, I did gave this series a chance, though looking back, it wasn't as grab heavy as I thought it would be. The Critic, I did grew up with this and it's still latches to me, the character was likable when you're not taking it as seriously as one is. Overall, its a pretty good retrospective.

Maybe itd be about Sherman trying to stick to his guns by the old methods on tv and newspaper while thats slowly being phased out by internet media and independent creators, and him having to come to terms that his career either has to evolve or be slowly put out of work. In '91 he made a movie with his lifelong best friend Tom Kenny called Shakes The Clown featuring a young Adam Sandler and a Robin Williams cameo. If you haven't seen it, DO IT. Fun fact, Tom Kenny is a huge fan of Muddy Waters. He and Bobcat went to go see him perform when they were teens and got him to sign one of his records, as they tell on the DVD commentary .The DVD commentary of the movie is just as good as the movie itself. Also, you are familiar with Beavis and Butthead right? Mike Judge did most of the male voices on that show.

The Goode Family and Idiocracy were well ahead of their time (like a decade or more) it's sort of weird as both had Mike Judge's involvement to a lesser or more severe degree. If you remember older American Dad episodes, the humor mostly came from how over-the-top conservative Stan was and the contrast to his more liberal daughter Hayley, now the show barely references that. I could see The Goode Family succeeding on a smaller niche network or service now crazy as it seems. Generally injecting politics into a series or cartoon hasn't been a good idea for over twenty years because it's so divisive and most folks would rather be offended than laugh at something now. People can't agree on anything, especially on the internet.
