Lovely little model. Will have to get one. I also noticed that Hattons have improved their packaging from years gone by. My stuff used to travel 11,000mls wrapped up in brown paper!

I myself bought the BR Black example Number 1470 and I have to say this model is miles better than the airfix or Hornby model. If anyone is doubting to get this model I would highly recommend it! You won't be disappointed with it!!

Lovely model, ive always had a soft spot for some gwr locos these being top of the list. Ive got a old dapol one thats had a detailing kit fitted but Im thinking of replacing it with a br lined green version of the djm auto tank, alomg eith a bachmann auto coach

I really love these little locos . I model eastern region but I am tempted to build a small end to end layout just to have one . the difference between the 14xx and 58xx is that the 14xx is vacuum fitted for auto coach running .the 58xx wasn't fitted with vacuum so didn't run auto coaches . it was a loose coupled freight loco I understand .

Well, you sold me. have ordered one like yours just a while ago. Normally I modelaustralian HO, but are aquiring a growing UK based collection, because I can. GWR seems to, without any intention have a lmost majority stake, pre ordering a Oxfors Dean as well. So the power of youtube , and sorry no commmission ;)

I have two of the Airfix versions of this beautiful model but the new DJH model far outstrips them in appearance. I will certainly try to get one.

I saw this and other liveries of this model in Hatton's display cabinet this morning....it's a great looking loco! Does it come with dcc provision?
@BrockwellLanemodelrailway7 жыл бұрын
Yes it does and you get to the chip through the smokebox door held in place with magnets. The sound speaker fits below the coal load in the bunker. All quite well designed. Forgot to mention these in the review.

Did you lubricate the loco prior to running it?
@BrockwellLanemodelrailway7 жыл бұрын
I have not run her in yet but I will do.
@Hilux59727 жыл бұрын
Brockwell Lane the instructions say to lubricate the loco prior to any running, which is probably the reason for the card in the box.

Can't agree with your comment on Hatton's website being difficult to navigate. I find it very easy and one of the best I've ever used.

It looks to be a nice model and the absence of the top feed and whistle shield is a bonus as none were built with a top feed. The big disappointment is that the livery is not correct. The safety valve cover was always painted green in Great Western days and thay NEVER ran with a polished brass band between the smokebox and boiler. This is something that has crept intp use on some of the preserved locos and to my mind spoils the authenticity. Painting the safety valve cover green should be straightforward but painting the brass band would be much more difficult to get a good result. Painting them on the weathered versions would be extrmemely difficult to get a good match. In contrast, the new Heljan 1366 pannier tank is a mess with so many things wrong with it that I won't be buying one, especially at such a high price. It would be nice to have an up-to-date 1930s autocoach in chocolate and cream to go with the auto-fitted 48xxs.
@BrockwellLanemodelrailway7 жыл бұрын
I might have a go at repainting those then. I agree about the autocoach.

I have to agree with you about Hattons' website. It's very difficult and quite annoying to navigate and feels really quite dated. There are other shops out there with much better websites that I've been giving my money to simply because it's easier to find what you're looking for. A shame really as I am from Liverpool and have always wanted to support them but since they moved to Widnes they have become more of an online-only shop, so now I find myself looking for the lowest prices online instead of spending a couple extra quid to support my local shop.
