This series on the CS-590 has shown how humble and intelligent you truly are. Great thinking, I hope it does the job and runs like a top this go around.

Hey Tinman, I accidentally found a solution to this on my saw. I was using an improper punch to drive out the high jet. Did it a couple times because I couldn’t get the depth right when I tried to put it back together. Afterwards, the saw was running poorly. Would die when the throttle was engaged. I figured I messed something up inside the carb and kept going back and examining everything. Finally it hit me. I had decreased the diameter of the tiny hole on top, essentially making it even less of a semi-fixed jet. Once I saw this, I opened up the screw on my high jet 2 full turns (originally I had it turned all the way in) and started working correctly and sounded like it could be leaned out a bit more. I’ll have to tinker with it tomorrow and get it tuned. Don’t want to piss off the neighbors running a power saw at night. Anyway, probably wouldn’t recommend doing this on purpose, but it might work out for me on this one. Cheers from Texas where everyone is about to sh*t themselves about possible ice tomorrow

Your spot on with the emissions thought. Which to me just makes the way the 590 runs even more amazing. That the engineers are that good. I got my 590 new for $200 🇺🇸. The 620pw is like $680

Nice to be able to observe the methodology and deductive reasoning behind building a modified saw. From carburation, cylinder porting modifications, bottom end care bearings and seals, engine air flow to exhaust. Essential in deph chainsaw optimization to maximize performance. Appreciate your skill, knowledge and dedication, a true pro, thanks again for the great content Tinman. Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙...Tdawg.

Tinman, just an FYI, the CS-8000 had two different sized carburetors. The older, orange ones had a bigger one. Some of us watching are Echo people, so keep asking for information. You've halped us, let us help you. Glad you're switching the nozzle in the carb. Thanks for the videos!

Yeah, I kinda wish I'd spent the extra $150 on a 620. But... to me, my personal shop time is worthless and I love tinkering. Made it all worthwhile when a buddy, after running my 590, bought a 620. He likes his new saw but claims it's a dog compared to mine😀 hoping I can talk him into letting me build it a pipe and making the limiter caps disappear! Looking forward to the next video!

I just got fixed jets from an HDA 191 to put in the carb on my 590 project. Also took a look tonight at fitting a carb from a husky 365. Mind you I’d need to do some extra mods but may be worth it on ported jug with pop up piston.

Between the porting and the jet swap it should run very well. And tune closer to 1 , 1 on H/L Did the stihl jet have the band machined around it? Or did you have to line up the feed holes? I like the husqvarna jet because of the band machined don't have to worry about exact line up.

I swapped high speed nozzles on my 600P so I now have full control over the fueling. Did a muffler mod on it, don’t think I’ll do the 620 carb or coil swap it runs really good as-is.

Hey Tinman, great thoughts about these carbs and ecxiting to change HDs. Never had the Idea to change them . Could you explain these Govenors in old Carbs and the Tuning. I have these on my Dolmar 133 and 143 . Is it a good Idea to block them? Thanks and keep doing. You‘ll get that 590 to ripp! 👍

On old stuff where the holes were wore out in the carb jets we would braze them shut and re drill to proper size. Might be easier than JB weld? Take er easy Tin Man!

I have a "like-new" 590 short block and carb. because I swapped them for 620 parts. I was going to sell them on eBay, but if this 590 keeps fighting you I might send them your way. Would you approach this differently if you had a fresh cylinder? I also have the Walbro jet similar to the one you installed here (Walbro 86-578-1). that I ordered after seeing a forum post about these saws running rich; I have not had enough trigger time to tune /lean mine out yet but will follow up with my results when I do.

You could always put more oil in your mix and then it would have effectively leaned it out. Lots of trial and error, but the outcome might have been worth it.

Never heard of hauling water to your house before I heard you say that you do it. Can you not drill a water well,? Is the ground water too low or contaminated? Just curious.

There's no water to drill, our ground water sits on the top so a well would freeze in the winter.

Three carbs, all run rich, doesn't that say it's not a carb problem? I'm still thinking it's that long intake timing that's causing the problem. Some(*) of the intake charge is back flowing out of the cylinder, back through the carb, taking on more fuel. So the next intake charge already has some fuel in it before it goes through the carb..... (*) some - there's always some, in this case too much.

That jet should work fine I have a 2156 and they say the HDA 199 jet works good but the hole and it goes all the way through in mine I put a nozzle out of an HD 12 off a 372 they only have one hole in the side it seem to make a difference on how it performs for some reason tunes easier runs better
@ozdatman2 жыл бұрын
So when you made it breath better it pulled more air over the ''safety'' jet causing it to load up? Interesting. If we run dry of water the folks around here are aloud to pump from the small river down the road. We have about 50 000 liters of tank water here between our spring tanks and our rain tanks. Thank goodness we don't have to bury them to stop them from freezing.

Stock my 620 pulls fine. My 36" portable mill and ripper will be in by next week and I have no reservations. It will work. With the 5 year warranty I'll wait at least a few years before modding.

@@bradbooth1177 it’s just about having enough layers. You can see tinman understands that when he’s going for water. The more base layers you have the fewer bulky outer layers you need. It’s really not about being tough, just having proper clothing, and knowing how to put them on.
